Abstract

The digital transformation in education offers a significant opportunity to revitalize local cultural arts through innovative learning approaches. However, the integration of local cultural arts into digital educational media particularly in school-based arts education remains suboptimal. This study aims to explore the potential of local cultural arts digitalization as a form of innovation in arts education aligned with the Merdeka Belajar policy. This research adopts a qualitative approach, utilizing interviews, observations, and documentation studies involving arts teachers, students, and local cultural content in elementary school settings. Findings indicate that using digital media rooted in local culture such as traditional dance videos, interactive applications, and folklore animations can increase student interest and strengthen cultural identity. The conclusion affirms that the digitalization of local cultural arts is effective not only as a medium for arts education but also as a strategy for cultural preservation that is adaptive to the digital era and education policies grounded in local wisdom.

Abstract

This qualitative study explores students’ perceptions and engagement in the implementation of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) in English language classrooms at the senior high school level. The research focuses on uncovering how students perceive the use of PjBL, what aspects enhance their motivation and involvement—such as group collaboration, use of technology, and creativity—and what challenges they encounter, including time management, task division, and language comprehension. Five students from SMA Negeri 9 Wajo participated in in-depth interviews to share their experiences, while observations provided additional insight into classroom dynamics. The findings reveal that students generally hold positive perceptions toward PjBL, highlighting increased enthusiasm, improved English skills—especially in speaking, writing, and vocabulary—and a greater sense of ownership over their learning. Collaborative projects and authentic tasks were cited as key motivators, though students also expressed concerns about unequal participation and limited time for project completion. The study emphasizes the importance of student voice in evaluating educational strategies and offers practical suggestions from students to improve future PjBL activities.

Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to describe the implementation of the principal's leadership in improving the quality of learning at MIS Yaa Bunayya Fathul Khair. The results show that school principals play a strategic role as decision makers, motivators, facilitators, and role models. The leadership style applied is a combination of transformational and democratic. Transformationally, school principals encourage technology-based learning innovations such as Virtual Reality (VR) and Jasoz HI-FI, as well as instill the value that teaching is worship. Democratically, school principals involve teachers in decision-making, open communication spaces, and support professional development through training. The impact can be seen in increasing teacher motivation and professionalism, strengthening religious culture, and learning effectiveness. Despite challenges such as differences in teacher backgrounds and student discipline, principals continue to encourage innovation and collaboration. This integrative and adaptive leadership has been proven to be able to optimize the quality of learning as a whole.

Abstract

Abstract. This study aims to analyze the competency development needs of employees at the Education and Culture Office of Enrekang Regency. The research focuses on five aspects of competency: knowledge, skills, self-concept and values, personal characteristics, and motivation. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, utilizing data collection techniques such as in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. Informants included the head of the office, planning sub-section head, supervisors, and staff. The findings indicate that most employees possess sufficient basic understanding and skills to carry out their duties and responsibilities. However, there remains a need to enhance competencies in areas such as information technology proficiency, understanding of the latest policies, and skills in educational program planning and evaluation. Supporting factors include the availability of training and the employees’ commitment to continuous learning, while inhibiting factors include limited training facilities and mismatches between educational background and job assignments. The office’s efforts to address these needs include conducting regular training and workshops to improve staff competencies. The study recommends a structured, sustainable, and needs-based strategy for competency development.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the factors influencing school readiness among children aged 5-6 years in Makassar City. The research employed a quantitative method with a descriptive correlational approach, involving 81 children selected through purposive sampling. The instrument used was the Nijmeegse Schoolbekwaamheids Test (NST), which measures ten domains of school readiness, including cognitive, motor, social, language, and emotional aspects. The results showed that the majority of children (92.5%) were categorized as "ready" to enter primary school, with an average score of 52.95. Visual-perceptual ability and concentration were the strongest domains, while emotional and expressive language abilities were the lowest. No significant differences were found in school readiness between boys and girls. Correlation analysis indicated significant positive relationships among the domains of school readiness, particularly between concentration and memory. These findings confirm that school readiness is a multidimensional construct with interrelated aspects. The results of this study are expected to serve as a basis for developing more effective interventions and educational policies to enhance school readiness among young children in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study explores students’ perceptions of the implementation of teachers’ verbal and nonverbal immediacy behaviors in enhancing their English learning motivation. A quantitative research method was employed, with questionnaires used as the primary instrument for data collection. The study was conducted at SMAN 22 Makassar, involving 60 eleventh-grade students as respondents. The data obtained through the questionnaires were analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis. The findings revealed that students held generally positive perceptions toward both verbal and nonverbal immediacy behaviors demonstrated by their teachers. Among the most highly valued behaviors were showing concern, using humor, giving praise or positive feedback, smiling, standing with confidence, and employing expressive vocal tones. These results indicate that students are more motivated to engage in English learning when their teachers communicate in ways that foster emotional connection, attentiveness, and encouragement

Abstract

Abstract. Speaking and listening skills are essential aspects of language learning. However, in practice, seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Torjun Sampang have difficulty in both skills. This study aims to investigate the impact of audio-visual media on enhancing students' speaking and listening skills. This study used a mixed-methods approach with a quasi-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. The study subjects were 27 students from class VII-C (the control class) and 26 students from class VII-B (the experimental class), selected using purposive sampling. Data collection techniques were carried out through questionnaires, observations, and interviews. Quantitative data analysis used the t-test, and qualitative data analysis through the reduction and interpretation of interview and observation results. The results showed a significant improvement in students' speaking and listening skills after learning with audio-visual media, specifically animated videos. The average post-test score increased compared to the pre-test, and students demonstrated greater activity and motivation during the learning process. Thus, the alternative hypothesis (H₁) is accepted, which states that audio-visual media has a significant effect on improving the speaking and listening skills of class VII students at SMP Negeri 2 Torjun Sampang.  Keywords: Audio-Visual Media, Speaking Skills, and Listening Skills

Abstract

Environmental education in Nigeria has largely followed Western models, often overlooking the rich indigenous knowledge systems (IKS) that have sustained local ecosystems for generations. This paper argues for the deliberate integration of IKS into Nigeria’s environmental education framework as a pathway to fostering sustainable development. Through a critical theoretical analysis, the study explores how indigenous ecological practices, traditional conservation ethics, and community-based environmental stewardship can enhance formal education curricula. The paper highlights the gaps in current environmental education policies and proposes a culturally responsive approach that bridges scientific and indigenous perspectives. By drawing on global examples and local case studies, it underscores the potential of IKS to promote deeper ecological awareness, strengthen community engagement, and support Nigeria’s sustainability goals. The study concludes with recommendations for policymakers, educators, and stakeholders to adopt inclusive strategies that recognize and valorize indigenous knowledge in environmental learning

Abstract

This study investigated the efficacy of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) on mental health disorders among in-school adolescents in Taraba State, Nigeria. The study adopted a quasi-experimental research design, guided by two research questions and two null hypotheses tested at a 0.05 level of significance. The population consisted of 200,382 in-school adolescents across the state. A sample of 248 students from two secondary schools was selected for the study. The instrument used for data collection was a self-structured questionnaire known as the Mental Health Disorder Questionnaire (MHDQ). Data collected were analyzed using mean and standard deviation to answer the research questions, while Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) was used to test the null hypotheses. The findings revealed significant differences between the experimental and control groups on post-test measures. Specifically, the experimental subjects who received CBT showed a significant improvement in symptoms of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and a marked decrease in examination phobia compared to the control group. Based on these findings, the study concluded that Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is an effective intervention for reducing mental health disorders among in-school adolescents in this context. Consequently, it was recommended that teachers and counsellors integrate CBT-based behavioural management strategies into classroom practices and that schools organize targeted workshops to help students manage examination anxiety.
