Abstract

Background. Shirk, or associating partners with Allah, is a major challenge for Gen Z Muslim youth who are influenced by social media, consumerist culture and secular ideologies. These influences can trigger behaviors that go against tawhid, such as celebrity idolization and materialism. Therefore, effective strategies are needed to strengthen religious understanding and maintain commitment to tawhid amidst the challenges of the modern era. Purpose. This research aims to identify the challenges and strategies faced by the Gen Z Muslim youth in avoiding shirk in the present era. Specifically, this research analyzes the factors influencing the tendency towards contemporary forms of shirk, and seeks effective solutions to strengthen the understanding of the principle of tawhid, using a case study based on Qs An – Nisa verse 48. Method. The research method used is a qualitative method, by analyzing documents. Data was obtained from various literatures discussing shirk, as well as the shirk occurring in the Gen Z era. It also connects this with the Quranic text Qs An - Nisa verse 178. Analysis was conducted to identify new forms of polytheism, as well as the challenges and strategies to avoid it.. Results. Shirk, associating partners with Allah, is Islam's gravest sin, unforgivable without repentance. It includes major shirk (idol worship) and minor shirk (showing off in worship). Modern forms arise from technology and self-worship. The Qur'an (An-Nisa [4]: 48) stresses its contradiction to monotheism. Conclusion. Shirk challenges Gen Z faith amid technological advances, social media, and identity crises, risking subtle polytheism. This study emphasizes understanding shirk to preserve monotheism and strengthen faith. Creative, relevant religious education is vital to help youth navigate spiritual challenges in the modern era.

Abstract

Background.  This study discusses the comparison of the meaning of remembrance based on verse 152 of surah Al-Baqarah through the perspective of two classic tafsir books, namely Tafsir Jalalain and Tafsir Ibn Kathir. This verse emphasizes the importance of remembering Allah as a form of gratitude and obedience. By examining these two commentaries, this research aims to explore the mufassirs' understanding of the concept of remembrance and how it is applied in everyday life. Purpose.. This study aims to analyze and compare the interpretations of dhikr (remembrance of Allah) in verse 152 of Surah Al-Baqarah as presented in Tafsir Jalalain and Tafsir Ibn Kathir. By examining these perspectives, it seeks to reveal their similarities and differences, highlighting the significance of dhikr in the spiritual and daily lives of Muslims. Method.  Examining dhikr according to Tafsir Jalalain, focusing on the form of worship that includes the tongue, heart, and actions, as well as its reward from Allah. Examining dhikr in Tafsir Ibn Kathir as a broad form of worship that invites Allah's protection, as well as the importance of gratitude. Comparing the two commentaries to understand the similarities and differences related to dhikr and gratitude. Results. Tafsir Jalalain and Ibn Kathir agree that dhikr is a comprehensive act of worship (verbal, heart, and deeds), which is rewarded with Allah's mercy. Zikr also includes gratitude as a form of obedience to His favors. Conclusion. The comparison of dhikr interpretations in Tafsir Jalalain and Tafsir Ibn Kathir reveals both similarities and differences. Tafsir Jalalain offers a clear explanation, focusing on dhikr as gratitude and obedience. In contrast, Tafsir Ibn Kathir provides a detailed context through hadith and scholarly views. Both agree on dhikr's crucial role in deepening spiritual connections with Allah and achieving peace and happiness in this life and the hereafter.

Abstract

Background. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are essential to economic growth and job creation but face unique financial management challenges that can impede their sustainability and growth. Limited access to capital, insufficient financial planning, and inadequate accounting skills are among the main obstacles hindering SMEs' financial success. Purpose. This study aims to identify the primary challenges in financial management practices among SMEs and to propose solutions that can enhance their financial stability and growth potential. Method. A mixed-methods approach was used in this research, combining quantitative data from SMEs' financial performance metrics with qualitative insights from interviews with SME owners and financial managers. Financial metrics provided an overview of common problem areas, while interviews gave a deeper understanding of the practical challenges SMEs encounter. Results. The findings indicate that SMEs commonly struggle with cash flow management, budgeting, and accessing credit, which undermines their operational efficiency and resilience. Additionally, limited financial literacy among SME managers further exacerbates these challenges, often leading to ineffective financial decision-making. Conclusion. The study concludes that targeted training in financial literacy, better access to funding options, and support for implementing accounting systems can significantly improve the financial health of SMEs. Policy implications suggest that collaboration between government bodies and financial institutions is crucial to develop tailored financial solutions, focusing on accessible financing and financial education. These strategies could empower SMEs to overcome financial challenges, strengthening the SME sector’s role in the economy.

Abstract

Background. The Quran, revealed to Prophet Muhammad (SAW) over 23 years in Arabic, serves as a comprehensive guide for humanity. Its preservation and reliable transmission make it central to Islamic teachings. However, understanding the Quran requires Tafsir (exegesis), which provides essential context, linguistic insights, and explanations. Despite this, many interpret Quranic verses without proper knowledge of Tafsir, resulting in widespread misinterpretations. Surah Al-Baqarah, a chapter covering diverse themes, is particularly vulnerable to such misunderstandings. Purpose. This study aims to address common misinterpretations of seven selected verses in Surah Al-Baqarah by relying on established Tafsir works. The objective is to rectify these errors, promote accurate understanding of the Quran, and emphasize the necessity of using scholarly resources to interpret its teachings. Method. The research employs a qualitative literature review method. Data is sourced from books, scholarly articles, and journals that discuss Quranic exegesis. The study examines interpretations of the chosen verses using classical Tafsir works, including those by renowned scholars, to clarify their meanings and provide contextual understanding. Results. The analysis identifies key causes of misinterpretation, including neglect of historical and textual context, linguistic misunderstandings, and cultural biases. By referring to authoritative Tafsir, the study provides accurate explanations of the seven verses, reinforcing their intended meanings. Conclusion. The study highlights the risks of misinterpreting Quranic verses and underscores the importance of Tafsir for accurate understanding. By clarifying misconceptions in Surah Al-Baqarah, this research contributes to better public comprehension of the Quran and reinforces the need for scholarly guidance in interpreting its verses.
