Abstract

Vocational schools are no exception to implementing the online learning policy during the covid-19 pandemic, including students majoring in hotel accommodation. This study describes how the school develops its readiness to implement the policy, particularly its challenges. This study also aims to determine the constraints and impacts of implementing the policy.  Using a qualitative method, this study involved two vocational schools in Yogyakarta that have a hotel accommodation field. The head of the departments, the productive teachers, and some students was invited to several interviews. Documentation was also used to obtain detailed information. The results were categorized into two aspects: hard skills and soft skills. From the first aspect, challenges faced as the policy's impact are: 1.) Online learning at vocational schools majoring in hotel accommodation requires facilities and infrastructure that do not include internet quota; 2.) Teacher digital competence and teacher creativity in carrying out learning needs to be improved; 3.) Students feel bored with online learning, so motivation needs to be grown; and 4.) Skills/ practice-based learning implemented in school alternately with a limited number of students. The second aspect indicated that the policy makes it difficult to develop students' soft skills that are also measured as the learning objective. These constraints are important to note for the implementation of the online learning policy to be successful.

Abstract

The learning process in Vocational High Schools must encourage students to have problem-solving skills needed in the industry through the application of appropriate learning models. In reality, the students' problem-solving skills in computer subjects and basic networks are still lacking, and the Problem-Based Learning learning model has never been applied. This research aims to understand the implementation of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) to improve students' problem-solving skills. This research is a class action research model of Kemmis and Taggart, carried out in three cycles; each cycle consisted of two meetings. The data were analyzed descriptively. The results show how PBL on computer subjects and basic networks can improve problem-solving skills. Improvements occurred in all aspects of observation. In problem-solving skills, 56.25% of the students in the above medium category in cycle I increased in cycle II to be 71.875% and increased again in cycle III to be 100%. This means that there are no students below the medium category in cycle III. PBL can improve problem-solving skills with the steps: (1) orienting students to the problem classically; (2) organizing students to study in a group work of four people and the division of tasks for each member; (3) guiding individual and group investigations on the same topic, discussed maximum in two groups; (4) developing and presenting the work done in front of the class with more time allocation in the discussion session; (5) analyzing and evaluating the problem-solving process that focuses on re-checking the results.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the implementation of vocational learning in the new normal era related to the content, assignment forms, class management, and describe teacher innovations and hope. The research was conducted using a quantitative descriptive approach with a research instrument is a questionnaire. The questionnaire was given to 46 respondents consisting of mechanical engineering vocational teachers from several regions in Indonesia. The questionnaire consists of two categories, namely statements with an option and statements with open answers. The findings of this study are based on two categories, namely theoretical and practical learning. The results reveal that in theory learning, teachers prefer to share material with students in various forms, including PDF, PPT, Video, and others (17.56%), assigning forms in summarizing material (25.19%), and with the full class (47.78%). In contrast, in practical learning, the teacher conducted learning with a system block (5.85%), gave assignments in the form of making projects or products (6.93%), and with half-class management combined with online classes (7.78%). Another finding is the innovation applied by teachers is developing technology-based learning materials and using online platforms. In the new era's learning situation, normal teachers expect a flexible curriculum, as well as standardized, effective, and efficient media, models, methods, and learning platforms. In the learning practice, the teacher expects practice videos and simulation applications that are expected to be by following the expected basic competencies and being equipped with learning practices with the application of health protocols and students' numbers.

Abstract

The creation of qualified graduates is a parameter of the implementation of quality education. Vocational schools become one of the learning places to produce quality human resources who are ready to enter the world of business and industry. Effective and efficient management of learning facilities and infrastructure is a leadership strategy of the school's related parties to improve the quality of graduates. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case-study design. A total of three vocational schools in Sumedang Regency were selected as research sites. This research aims to understand, describe, and analyze the school principals' leadership strategies in managing and developing learning facilities and infrastructure to improve their graduates' quality. The research data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation studies, and field notes. The results show that despite all the problems due to the limited availability of practical equipment and the minimal cost allocated, vocational schools in Sumedang Regency can produce graduates with the industrial world's certified expertise competencies. The use of learning facilities and infrastructure to improve graduates' quality in the three vocational schools participating in the research has been running optimally. However, the strategy for developing learning facilities and infrastructure has not been implemented as expected. Planning, implementation, and supervision are stages that must be highly considered by school principals in managing learning facilities and infrastructure.

Abstract

Kopaja.id as online learning had developed in 2019, and KOPAJA is an acronym for “Kompas Pajak Ajaib” which means magically direct taxes. It is also expected to provide a fun learning for students. This research is to provide an online fun learning to students who want to learn tax anytime and anywhere. This research is follow-up research using the research and development (RD) method to reach the Technology Readiness Level (TRL) for applied research. The development of an application system has been carried out based on a website with the address https://kopaja.id which can be accessed and used for learning from taxation courses. User testing with the Perceived Usability Website instrument was developed by Wang and Senecal. The research sample is from 55 students of DIV Public Sector Accounting, Department of Economics and Business, Vocational College, Universitas Gadjah Mada. The test results show that the website system is functioning correctly, and user ratings show that the website has easy navigation, speed of access, and is comfortable to explore. However, interaction with users is still not optimal. The result of self-measurement on the achievement of Technology Readiness Level reaches TRL 6 in 1- 9 scale.

Abstract

Revitalization of vocational education must be designed and developed according to the industry's needs through appropriate learning innovations. The selection of suitable learning methods influences the graduate competencies and learning experiences of students. This study aims to analyze the learning process based on industrial products in mechanical practices. The learning process analysis includes giving apperceptions and motivation, mastering learning materials, learning strategies implementation, learning resources or media, involving students, and closing the learning process. The research used an experimental method with a static group comparison design. This study used two groups consisting of the experimental and control group with 20 respondents for each. The experimental group is respondents who used industrial products-based learning, and the control group is respondents who used conventional learning (job sheet-based). The research respondents were students of the Mechanical Engineering Department Universitas Negeri Semarang who have passed the Mechanical Process I lesson chosen by random sampling technique. Research data were collected using a teaching and learning process questionnaire, while the data analysis technique used is the Mann Whitney U Test and descriptive statistics. The research findings show that there are differences in the process of the mechanical practice using industrial products-based learning and conventional learning (job sheet-based). Implementation of learning with the gift of apperception and motivation, mastery of learning materials, application of learning strategies, assembling of learning resources or learning media, students' participation in the learning process, and closing the learning process is better to use the industrial products-based learning compared to conventional learning.

Abstract

When computers take over from routine tasks at work, some employees are involved in independent problem-solving tasks. The current learning system must encourage students to move to lower levels of thinking in order to become independent individuals. The purpose of this study was to test the validity of the Plan-Do-Review-Share-Happy (Plandoresh) strategy as an effort to develop independent learning for vocational school students. This study used a descriptive method, and the aim is to get the validity of the Plandoresh strategy steps with a random sample of 78 respondents. The results that 1.) The Plan step is valid with r count > r table of 0.849 > 0.227; 2.) The next steps are done valid with r count > r table of 0.873; 3.) The Review step is valid with r count > r table of 0.856; 4.) The Share step is valid with r count > r table of 0.868; and 5.) The happy step is valid with r count> r table  0.929. These results indicate that the steps of the Plandores strategy are valid to be applied in an effort to develop independent learning for vocational students.

Abstract

This study aims to produce a proper and effective Geriatric Makeup book as enrichment material for beauty students at Vocational School. This study used a research and development approach with a Four-D model. This model consists of four steps of development; they are Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate. The product feasibility test was carried out by two material experts and two media experts. The feasibility test results were subsequently tested for agreement between experts through Cohen's Kappa coefficient test. The book's effectiveness was seen by the gain score when implemented using a quasi-experimental design with a one-group case study. The research subjects were 28 students of the XI beauty class of SMK N 3 Purworejo. The data collection instrument were observation guidelines, interview guidelines, expert validation sheets, student response questionnaires, and ability tests. The study results show that the enrichment book fulfills the eligibility criteria based on the expert material with a score of 3.59 (very good). According to the expert, there was an agreement between experts of 0.64 (good) and fulfilled the eligible criteria with a score of 3.70 (very good). There was an agreement between expert 1.00 (very good). The developing enrichment book was effective to be used by beauty class XI students SMK Negeri 3 Purworejo with an understanding gain score of 0.5 (moderate) and with a skill gain score of 0.71 (high).

Abstract

This study aims to develop an assessment rubric and produce a metacognitive skill model through the Blended Learning Management System (BLEMS) in project-based learning in vocational education. This study uses the Research and Development (R&D) model of Borg and Gall (1983). The research subjects consisted of two experts (validity), ten students (small group), and 35 students (expanded) from the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Negeri Makassar, Indonesia. Data were collected using questionnaires and tests: developed assessment instruments and rubrics with three main aspects, planning, monitoring, and evaluation. Conducted assessment tests through self, peer, and teacher assessments. Then analyzed the results of the Assessments with descriptive statistics. The results showed that the Rubric and metacognitive assessment model through BLEMS for vocational education met the validity, practicality, and effectiveness. The integration of metacognitive skill elements: planning, monitoring, and evaluation with self-assessment, peer assessment, and teacher assessment can be an assessment method to measure students' metacognitive thinking skills in project-based learning in vocational education.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of the effect between the Problem-Based Learning model using Peer assessment and the Problem-Based Learning model on student competencies. The study used a quantitative experimental approach at SMK Negeri 1 Sragen in class XI AK 4 as a control class and XI AK 5 as an experimental class. The population involved all XI Accounting class students totaling 160 students, while the sample consisted of 64 students divided into the experimental class and the control class. The results showed that the first hypothesis obtained Fcount dataFtable or 5.214 2.760 and sig values. 0.026 0.05, then Ho is rejected, and Ha is accepted. Learning using the Problem-Based Learning model with Peer Assessment has an average value of 83.78, higher than the average value of the Problem-Based Learning model that is equal to 81.53. This study concludes that there are differences in the effect between the control class and the experimental class on student competence. The experimental class using the Problem-Based Learning Model using Peer Assessment is more effective than the control class using the Problem-Based Learning model.
