Abstract

This study aimed to analyse the impact of campus football programmes on youth development and to identify the influence of database utilisation, coaching quality, and training structure. A mixed-methods approach with an explanatory sequential design was employed. The sample consisted of 42 participants, including 20 students from the Beijing University Soccer Club, China, and 22 students from the University of Jakarta, Indonesia. Quantitative data were analysed using descriptive statistics, Independent Samples t-tests, One-Way ANOVA, and multiple linear regression, while qualitative data were analysed through data reduction and thematic interpretation. The findings showed that Chinese participants achieved significantly higher scores in physical, cognitive, and psychosocial development, as well as in database utilisation and coaching quality (p < 0.05). Coaching quality emerged as the strongest predictor of youth development (β = 0.41). The study highlights the importance of structured training systems, effective coaching, and technology integration in enhancing youth development through campus football programmes.

Abstract

Student mental health is a key issue in higher education due to rising levels of stress, anxiety and depression, which can affect academic success and quality of life. This study aims to analyse the influence of campus fitness on the mental health of students at Chinese universities. The study employs a mixed-methods approach with a convergent parallel design. A total of 450 students from three universities participated in the quantitative study, whilst 36 students took part in in-depth interviews. Physical fitness was measured using the National Student Physical Fitness Standard, and mental health using the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21). The results indicate that physical fitness has a significant negative correlation with depression (r = -0.52), anxiety (r = -0.48), and stress (r = -0.56). Regression analysis indicated that physical fitness is a significant predictor of students’ mental health. The novelty of this study lies in the integration of objective measures of physical fitness, mental health, and students’ experiences within the campus fitness environment. It was concluded that improved physical fitness and adequate support from the campus environment contribute to enhanced mental health and overall student well-being.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of animated video learning media on underhand passing skills of tenth-grade students at a senior high school in Gresik. A quantitative method was employed using a pre-experimental approach with a one-group pretest-posttest design. A sample of 35 students was selected through simple random sampling from a population of 395 students. The instrument used was the Brumbach Forearms Pass Wall-Volley Test (r > 0.80). The Shapiro-Wilk normality test indicated non-normally distributed data (p = 0.000), therefore hypothesis testing was conducted using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Results showed Z = -4.111 with p = 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant effect of animated video on students' underhand passing skills. The average score increased from 10.74 at pretest to 14.60 at posttest, representing a 35.94% improvement. An effect size of r = 0.695 falls within the large category, confirming substantial practical impact. Animated video is proven effective as an innovative learning medium in Physical Education for volleyball material at the senior high school level.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of step-ups training on leg muscle explosive power in female volleyball athletes of DISSPORSA Kendal aged 12–15 years. The study used an experimental method with a One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The study sample consisted of 20 athletes selected using a purposive sampling technique. The step-ups training program was carried out for four weeks with a frequency of three times per week. Measurement of leg muscle explosive power was carried out using the Jump DF instrument through a vertical jump test before and after treatment. Data analysis used the Shapiro-Wilk normality test and the Paired Sample t-Test hypothesis test with a significance level of 0.05. The results showed that the average vertical jump ability increased from 44.05 cm in the pretest to 47.25 cm in the posttest with an increase of 3.20 cm or 7.26%. The results of the normality test showed that the data were normally distributed, while the results of the Paired Sample t-Test obtained a significance value of 0.006 (p <0.05). These findings indicate that step-up training significantly increases the explosive power of female volleyball athletes from DISSPORSA Kendal, aged 12–15 years. Therefore, step-up training can be used as an effective, safe, and easy-to-implement alternative training method to improve the vertical jump ability of adolescent athletes.

Abstract

The study aimed to construct a zigzag running test to measure specific anaerobic capacity among youth football players due to the importance of anaerobic abilities in technical and tactical performance during matches. The researcher used the descriptive survey method because it was appropriate for the nature of the problem. The study sample consisted of youth football players aged 17–19 years. A zigzag running test was designed to simulate the actual performance requirements of football by requiring repeated changes of direction at high speed over a specified distance. The scientific properties of the test were verified, including validity, reliability, and objectivity. The results showed high coefficients indicating that the proposed test is suitable for measuring specific anaerobic capacity. The researcher concluded that the proposed test is an appropriate tool for evaluating anaerobic capacity levels among youth football players and can be adopted in assessment and talent identification processes.

Abstract

The smash is one of the primary attacking techniques in volleyball that requires optimal coordination, muscle strength, explosive power, and accuracy. A common problem encountered in school volleyball extracurricular activities is poor smashing ability due to conventional training methods and a lack of variety in training equipment. This study aims to analyze the effect of hitting-block training using elastic rubber on the smash ability of male students in the volleyball extracurricular program at SMK Diponegoro Cipari. The study employed a quantitative approach with a One-Group Pretest–Posttest experimental design. The sample consisted of 10 male students selected using purposive sampling. Data collection was conducted using a volleyball smash ability test during the pretest and posttest. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, the Shapiro–Wilk normality test, and hypothesis testing using a Paired Samples t-test at a 5% significance level. The results showed that the mean smash ability score increased from 15.10 to 19.10, representing an increase of 4.00 points. The results of the normality test indicate that the data are normally distributed (pretest = 0.441; posttest = 0.055), while the results of the paired samples t-test yielded a t-value of -7.171 with a significance level of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating that hitting block training using elastic rubber bands has a significant effect on improving students’ smash ability. The novelty of this study lies in the application of elastic rubber as functional resistance in hitting block drills, which simultaneously develops arm explosive power, movement coordination, and the quality of smash technique in high school-level extracurricular volleyball training. These findings provide a simple, economical, easy-to-implement, and scientifically evidence-based alternative training model for physical education teachers and volleyball coaches.
