Abstract

Sharia banks act as financial institutions that perform financial intermediary functions, connecting parties with excess funds with parties in need of funds. The pandemic era in early 2020 is one of the most striking examples that shows the serious impact of macroeconomic changes on Islamic banking in Indonesia. This study focuses on the performance of Islamic banking. It aims to analyze changes in four variables: number of branches, number of human resources, outstanding financing, and Non-Forming Finance in Islamic banks, both before and during the pandemic. The method used is a statistical approach sourced from secondary data published by the OJK, which includes a sample of 12 Islamic commercial banks and 21 Islamic business units. The analysis technique used is a descriptive comparative analysis of the results of the Mann-Whitney statistical test. The results of this study, based on the analysis using the Mann-Whitney test, indicate significant differences in these variables between the periods before and during the COVID-19 pandemic in the Islamic banking sector. Therefore, a strategic response is needed from the Islamic banking sector in addressing changes in the economic situation and customer behavior influenced by external factors such as the pandemic. The importance of adaptation by the Islamic banking sector in facing a pandemic, as well as the importance of better risk management in managing business growth and credit risk.

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between training and competence, and its direct and indirect influence on performance. Competence serves as a mediating variable in the relationship between training and performance. The type of this research is a quantitative study, with a research instrument using a questionnaire. The population in this study amounted to 2,007 teachers from public and private vocational high schools in Palembang. This research sample used a probability sampling technique, namely proportionate stratified random sampling. The sample size used is based on the Slovin formula. From 181 questionnaires collected, the data obtained were then analyzed using SEM (Structural Equation Modeling) PLS. The results of this study indicate that the training has not significantly influenced teacher performance; meanwhile, training has a positive and significant influence on competence, and competence has a positive and significant influence on teacher performance. In addition, the results of this study also show that the competence variable fully mediates the improvement in teacher performance. The path coefficient of 0.186 with a t-statistic of 2.663 (≥ 2.58) indicates a highly significant indirect effect, showing a positive but relatively weak-to-moderate influence that remains meaningful.

Abstract

This study develops and empirically validates the Budi Pekerti Luhur Corporate Ethics (BPLCE) framework as an indigenous Indonesian ethical model for building sustainable corporate culture in Bangka Belitung Province. Drawing from traditional Javanese moral philosophy, BPLCE comprises five dimensions: Integrity, Responsibility, Justice, Care, and Wisdom. Using structural equation modeling with survey data from 650 employees across multiple industries, we examine how BPLCE influences sustainable corporate culture directly and through three mediating mechanisms: organizational ethical climate, ethical leadership, and employee moral development. Results demonstrate that BPLCE significantly predicts sustainable corporate culture (β = 0.426, p < 0.001), explaining 69.7% of variance (R² = 0.697). The total indirect effect (β = 0.563) exceeds the direct effect, indicating substantial partial mediation (VAF = 56.9%). Organizational ethical climate shows the strongest mediation (β = 0.207), followed by ethical leadership (β = 0.194) and employee moral development (β = 0.162). Contextual factors significantly moderate these relationships. Industry sector exerts the strongest moderating effect (Δχ² = 18.742, p = 0.001), with mining demonstrating the highest impact (β = 0.512). Organizational size also moderates significantly (Δχ² = 7.926, p = 0.019), as larger organizations show stronger effects (β = 0.465). Regulatory environment positively moderates the relationship (β = 0.142, p = 0.002). Comparative analysis reveals BPLCE's superior explanatory power over Western virtue ethics (ΔR² = 0.083) and conventional CSR models (ΔR² = 0.099), confirming its cultural resonance and practical effectiveness for addressing sustainability challenges in emerging economies.

Abstract

The‍‌‍‍‌ rapid growth of e-wallets in Indonesia has been great especially in Semarang where a lot of people have adopted this payment method however users have also experienced problems in the understanding of the application features, easy operation, and concerns over data security. This study looked at the direct and indirect effects of perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and perceived security on the intention of using e-wallets in Semarang, with attitude as the mediating variable. A quantitative cross-sectional survey was conducted among 165 respondents using a five-point Likert scale. The data were analyzed using the PLS-SEM method. The findings indicate that perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use substantially impact one's attitude; however, perceived security has no effect; perceived usefulness and attitude considerably influence the intention to use, yet perceived ease of use and perceived security do not; and finally, the interaction between attitude and perceived usefulness as well as perceived ease of use significantly predicts intention to use whereas the interaction between attitude and perceived security is not significant. The results demonstrate that e-wallet adoption intention in Semarang is mostly influenced by users' perception of the usefulness and ease of the system which calls for service providers to focus more on functional value and user ‍‌‍‍‌experience.

Abstract

Indonesia’s Job Creation Law No. 6 of 2023 introduces a significant regulatory innovation by permitting Individual Limited Liability Companies (PT Perorangan) to facilitate Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) formalization. Despite this progressive legal reform, scholarly research addressing the practical opportunities and implementation challenges remains limited, particularly from management and business operation perspectives. This study examines the legal characteristics, entrepreneurial opportunities, and organizational challenges of establishing Individual LLCs, with emphasis on implications for MSE strategic decision-making, business operations, and sustainable growth. This research employs a normative juridical methodology with statutory and conceptual approaches, analyzing primary legal materials (Law No. 6/2023, Government Regulations No. 7-8/2021, Ministerial Regulation No. 21/2021) and secondary legal literature. Qualitative descriptive analysis identifies opportunities including procedural simplification, reduced establishment costs (IDR 50,000), and enhanced legal entity legitimacy, and examines challenges including inadequate legal literacy among target entrepreneurs, weak corporate governance mechanisms in single-founder structures, limited bank credit assessment frameworks for Individual LLCs, unclear business succession procedures, and technical barriers in digital registration systems. The study reveals that while Individual LLCs present genuine opportunities for MSE formalization, their effectiveness depends critically on complementary institutional support, enhanced legal literacy programs, and clarified governance frameworks. This research contributes to corporate law scholarship and management practice by providing comprehensive analysis of Individual LLC implementation challenges from both legal and organizational perspectives, and recommends specific regulatory improvements and institutional initiatives necessary to maximize the policy’s contribution to MSE empowerment and national economic development.

Abstract

The increasingly competitive business environment encourages micro and small enterprises (MSEs) in the culinary sector to adapt through product innovation, strengthening social networks, and utilizing digital marketing to enhance business success. This study aims to analyze the effects of product innovation, social capital, and digital marketing on the business success of culinary-sector MSEs in Gresik Regency, as well as the role of competitive advantage as a mediating variable. This study employs a quantitative approach using a survey method and involves 377 respondents who are culinary MSE owners in Gresik Regency. Data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM–PLS) with SmartPLS 4. The results indicate that product innovation, social capital, and digital marketing have positive and significant effects on the business success of MSEs. Furthermore, these three variables also have positive and significant effects on competitive advantage. Competitive advantage is proven to have a positive and significant effect on business success and partially mediates the influence of product innovation, social capital, and digital marketing on business success. These findings confirm that the business success of MSEs depends not only on the availability of resources and marketing activities, but also on entrepreneurs’ ability to manage and transform innovation, social networks, and the use of digital marketing into sustainable competitive advantages that align with local market characteristics. This study provides practical implications for MSE owners and stakeholders in formulating integrated business development strategies to enhance competitiveness and business success in the culinary MSE sector.

Abstract

The rapid growth of digital technology has transformed marketing practices, forcing businesses to adopt digital platforms in order to remain competitive and influence consumer behavior. In this environment, digital marketing strategies and customer rating play an increasingly important role in shaping purchasing decisions, especially for retail businesses operating in highly competitive markets. However, empirical evidence regarding the effectiveness of these factors in the context of local retail is still limited. This study uses an explanatory quantitative approach to analyze the impact of digital marketing strategies and customer evaluation on purchasing decisions at Sinar Mandiri. Data was collected from customers who had made purchases and been exposed to the company’s digital marketing activities through social media, online marketplaces, and other digital platforms using a five-point Likert scale questionnaire. The data was analyzed using Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS software. The results of the study indicate that both digital marketing strategies and customer rating have a positive and significant influence on purchasing decisions, with digital marketing strategies showing a stronger influence. These findings suggest that effective digital marketing serves as a major stimulus in shaping consumer expectations, while customer evaluations reinforce trust and perceived quality in the decision-making process. These results have practical implications for local retail businesses in developing more targeted digital marketing strategies and managing customer feedback to improve purchasing decisions.

Abstract

Window dressing practices have become a significant phenomenon in the ASEAN healthcare sector following the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly in 2023. Uncertainty in financial reporting and pressure to demonstrate positive performance have driven management to employ manipulation strategies, including cash management, leverage, and increased liquidity ratios, toward the end of the reporting period. The healthcare sector, with its high capital requirements and strict regulations, has the potential to influence investor decisions and market stability. This study employed an associative quantitative approach, targeting healthcare companies in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam. The population was 90 companies, with purposive sampling as the data collection technique, resulting in a sample of 55 companies. Quarterly financial data for 2023 were collected from public reports and analyzed using multiple regression analysis with SPSS version 25. The results indicate that cash holdings and leverage significantly influence window dressing practices, while company size and managerial ownership vary across countries. Increased liquidity ratios at the end of the reporting period reinforce the indication of year-end effects. Differences in financial structures and characteristics of ASEAN capital markets result in different practice patterns across countries. These findings expand the earnings management literature and provide practical implications for investors and regulators in improving transparency, oversight, and harmonizing capital market policies across countries.
