Abstract

Interpersonal communication is a skill to answer all individu needs in positive way in the field of communication. However, interpersonal communication often encountered obstacle, which can be caused by a disease, such as Pulmonary Tuberculosis. Pulmonary Tuberculosis is a direct infectious disease caused by the bacteria Mycobacterium tubercolusis. Pulmonary Tuberculosis patients experience anxiety, fear and shame that inhibit interpersonal communication, in which pulmonary tuberculosis patients are difficult to communicate feeling and thought related to disease experienced. One of the handling method is social support, but the emergence of anxiety, fear, and embarrassment against other individuals, causing the perception of social support from Pulmonary Tuberculosis patients. Based on this background, the researcher propose the issue of whether there is a relationship between perception of social support and interpersonal communication skill in pulmonary tuberculosis patients in Denpasar. This research is quantitative methods and hypothesis testing was done by using Pearson's Product Moment analysis. Subjects consisted of 83 Pulmonary Tuberculosis patients in Denpasar. Data collection used two scales to measure perception of social support and interpersonal communication skill . Scale’s items have been tested for validity and reliability. Perception of social support scale showed 46 valid items with reliability of 0,957, while interpersonal communication skill scale showed 38 valid items with reliability of 0,926. Based on the data analysis, data is linear and normal , so the Pearson 's Product Moment test can be done. Based on the research results, correlation coefficient between two variables is 0,759 with significance level of 0,000. Thus, it can be concluded that there is a positive relationship between perception of social support and interpersonal communication skill in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis in Denpasar. Abstract

Adolescent development toward the adult stage is always in touch with the family in every aspect. One aspect is the development of adolescent self-esteem. Self esteem is one of the aspects that support the development of adolescents to be able to develop optimally and determine success in adulthood. Adolescents need the support of the family to be able to develop self-esteem because the family is the first social environment where adolescents develop. Therefore, researchers assume that there is a relationship between family social support with self-esteem in adolescents in the city of Denpasar. This research method is quantitative correlation where the number of the subject in Denpasar 408 teenagers whose age 17-19 years . Methods of data collection is family social support scale and the scale of self esteem . Reliability of family social support scale is 0.943 and self esteem scale reliability is 0.940 . Normality of families social support variable is 0,219 and self-esteem variables normality is 0.572 . Linearity between family social support variables and self esteem is 0,000 . The coefficient of determination ( r2 ) 0.268 . Methods of data analysis is a technique of regression. The correlation coefficient is 0.518 with a probability of 0.000 . It is proved that there is a correlation between social support families with self-esteem in adolescents in the city of Denpasar. Keywords: family social support, self esteem, adolescents

Abstract

Tight competition between modern stores is a challenge for organizations of modern store in order to survive and achieve the organization's success. Therefore, the modern store manager is required to make decision as the real action to face that challenge. Decision making is an important process to achieve organization's goals (Luthans, 2006), in which decision-making is done by the manager, because the manager as a key player in the decision-making process (Socea, 2012). Meanwhile, to anticipate a change in the era of globalization and competition, intrapreneurship comes into creativity and an innovative concept that if possessed by modern store manager, it can give an important contribution in the decision making of modern store manager. This research aims to determine whether there is a relationship between intrapreneurship and decision-making of modern store manager. This research is a quantitative method with simple regression analysis. Data is collected through research scales that have been tested for validity and reliability to the 103 modern store managers in the province of Bali, Indonesia. Research data shows normal distribution and linear. The result shows the correlation coefficient is 0.770 and probability at 0.000 (p <0.05). It means that there is a positive and significant relationship between intrapreneurship and decision-making of modern store manager. Contribution of intrapreneurship variable to decision making variable is 59.3%. Key words: intrapreneurship, decision making, manager, modern store

Abstract

Corruption in government institution has been known by the public and Indonesia becomes one of the most corrupt countries in the world (Ditkumham Bappenas, 2012). Corruption among public service is caused by leaders or civil servants, who fail to suppress their personal desires, fail to work accordance with moral values, and fail to meet up the expected value needed by the public during their services in work field (Rahardian & Budi, 2012). It happened because integrity of the civil servants was poor. Corruption is a reflection of the personality and integrity refers to the quality of a person's personality traits (Nucci and Narvaes in Putra, 2010). Accordingly, personality is being expected as the aspect that determines integrity of individual. This research is quantitative study through two analysis methods; they are One Way ANOVA and Rank Spearman correlation. The sampling method used is multistage random sampling. Respondents involved 380 government civil servants in Bali. Data was collecting through Eysenck Personality Inventory (EPI-A) (?=0.776) that consist of 60 items and civil servants integrity scale (?=0.779) that consist of 21 items. The result was found the probability coefficient is 0.006 (p<0.01), it show there differences of civil servants integrity between type of personality of Eysenck's Theory. Side that, the result show there correlations between traits of personality, that is activity (p<0.01), sociability (p<0.05), reflectiveness (p<0.01), responsibility (p<0.01), and self esteem (p<0.01) with civil servants integrity. It can be concluded that the traits of personality influence in determine quality of civil servants integrity. Keywords: Eysenck’s Theory of Personality, Integrity, Civil Servant

Abstract

In Bali, partner selection remains an important issue since it is still influenced by a cultural factor that is the existence of the catur wangsa (four-caste) system. Wangsa has means descendant. Catur wangsa (four castes) are divided into four, namely Brahmin, Kshatriya, Vaishya and Shudra. Balinese women who occupy the top caste that is Brahmin would be more selective in choosing a partner for fear of their family’s attitude towards them if they are nyerod, meaning having a marriage where the wangsa (caste) of the woman is higher than that of her partner. The parenting styles applied by parents have a role in decision making when individuals choose their partners. Authoritative parenting style is an effective parenting style because it applies stability properly between acceptance/responsiveness and demandingness/control. This study aims to determine the relationship between authoritative parenting style and the tendency of homogamy in partner selection by young adult women from the Brahmin caste. The subjects used in this study were women from the Brahmin caste, aged 20 to 30 years old, unmarried, and residing in Denpasar. The number of subjects used was as 60 people. The authoritative-parenting-scale reliability was 0.939 and the tendency-of-homogamy-in-partner-selection-scale reliability was 0.948 . The result of the normality test on the authoritative parenting was 0.899 and the result of the normality test on the tendency of homogamy in partner selection was 0.199. The linearity test result on the authoritative parenting towards the tendency of homogamy in partner selection was 0.000. The analytical methods used was the product moment correlation analysis. The correlation result in this study was 0.575 (p=0.000). Based on these results, it was found out that there is a relationship between authoritative parenting and the tendency of homogamy in partner selection by young adult women from the Brahmin caste in Denpasar. Abstract

Currently mass media publish more about psychomotor achievement than academic achievement of students with hearing impairments, while in fact students with hearing impairments have the same intellectual capabilities as normal students. The difference lies in their intellectual development that tends to be sluggish due to limitations in hearing, communicating and using languages. Parenting styles adopted by parents have an important role in developing a child’s intellectual capability so as to achieve high academic achievement. When parents send their children in SLB B or State SLB show that parents applying authoritative parenting style in raising their children. This study aims to determine the relationship between authoritative parenting styles and the academic achievement of sixth grade elementary school students in Bali with hearing impairments in the deafness category. The subjects used in this study were sixth grade elementary school students with hearing impairments in the deafness category, who are attending SLB B (special school for hearing impaired children) or State SLB and living with their parents. The number of subjects used was as many as 28 students, which are the whole of the population. The authoritative parenting style scale reliability was 0.940. The result of the normality test on the authoritative parenting style was 0.426. The normality test result on academic achievement was 0.658. The linearity test result on the authoritative parenting style has probability (p) 0.000. The analytical method used was the product moment correlation analysis. The correlation result in this study was 0.836 with probability (p) was 0,000. Based on the results it is seen that there is a positive relationship between authoritative parenting styles and academic achievement of sixth grade elementary school students in Bali with hearing impairments in the deafness category. This means that the stronger authoritative parenting style that are accepted, then there is increase academic achievement of sixth grade elementary school students in Bali with hearing impairments in the deafness category. Abstract

The complexity life roles of Balinese Woman have been a challenge for them who work in formal sector. Balinese Woman is bounded by customs duties as part of the fulfillment of their domestic role in the family. Undergoing role in a balanced work and family often lead to work-family conflict, then giving impact to reduce work engagement among them. Work engagement characterized by vigor, dedication, and absorption during work (Schaufeli, Salanova, Gonzalez-Roma, & Bakker, 2002). Work engagement is really required by the industrial sector workers who need to involves quality of service as the main capital (Indrianti & Hadi, 2012), such as banking sector. Hence, this study aimed to examine the relationship between work-family conflict and work engagement on Balinese Woman employees at banking sector in Bali. This research uses quantitative method. Respondents involved are 121 Balinese Woman employees who have had family, educated at least bachelor degree (S1), and at least have been working for 1 year in their company. Research validity uses content validity and items test empirically through internal consistency procedure. Reliability score for work-family conflict scale shows 0.944 and reliability score for work engagement shows 0.910. Data distribution has shown normal and linear distribution. Results of simple regression analysis shows negative and significant relationship between work-family conflicts with work engagement on Balinese Woman Employee at banking sector in Bali (B= -0.411; p= 0,002). Contribution of work-family conflict variable on work engagement is 8.1% and the remaining 91.9% is influenced by other factors. Abstract

Premenopausal-aged women are susceptible to self-adjustment problems against changes experienced such as physical and psychological changes. Emotional intelligence plays an important role in addressing various issues, especially self-adjustment problems in premenopausal-aged women. This quantitative research with the correlational approach aims to determine the relationship between emotional intelligence and self-adjustment in premenopausal-aged women in South Denpasar District. The research samples are premenopausal-aged women in Sanur Village, South Denpasar District as many as 336 women using the one-stage cluster sampling technique. This study uses two scales of measurement namely the emotional intelligence scale and the self-adjustment scale. The emotional intelligence scale consists of 30 items with the reliability value = 0.974; and the self-adjustment scale consists of 29 items with the reliability value = 0.954. The data in this study show normal distribution with p = 0.111 for emotional intelligence and p = 0.224 for self-adjustment, and have a linear relationship (p = 0.000). The technique for the analysis used by the researcher in this study is Pearson’s product moment correlation. The analysis shows that there is a relationship between emotional intelligence and self-adjustment (p = 0.000, p <0.05). Emotional intelligence also has a direct and positive relationship with self-adjustment, in which the value of r = 0.913; there is no negative sign, and it can be said that emotional intelligence and self-adjustment have a very strong relationship (r = 0.913). Abstract

Early adulthood have a need to develop an intimate relationship through marriage (Santrock, 2002). Before deciding to hold the marriage, they conducted a series of decision-making process. Self-esteem is one of the variables that involved in individual decision-making. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the direction and strength of relationship between self-esteem and decision-making to get married among early adulthood Balinese women. A total of 196 Balinese women aged between 20 up to 40 years old and married becoming the subject of this quantitative correlational research. The sampling technique was two-stage cluster sampling. Measuring instruments used are the self-esteem scale (27 items; rxx` = 0,883) and decision-making to get married scale (16 items; rxx` = 0,824). Data were processed using Pearson Product Moment analysis, simple linear regression, and one-way ANOVA analysis. Statistical analysis show, there is significant correlation between self-esteem and decision-making to get married among early adulthood Balinese women (r= 0,723; p= 0,000). The coefficient of determination obtained for 0,523 which means that 52,3% of the variance that occurs in the decision-making to get married variable can be explained by the variance in self-esteem variable. F test analysis found that the mean scores for decision-making to get married did not differ significantly when assessed from the level of education (F= 1,169; p= 0,323) and birth order (F= 0,601; p= 0,550). Abstract

The improvement of house needs which is added by modern life style, it creates the modern shop pattern in society when fulfilling their needs. Retail Company tries to fulfill society needs by selling products and service that is done by its employees. Therefore, the employees have an important role and they are hoped to emerge extra behavior for the company effectiveness. The company needs employees who do an extra behavior more than their formal job description and they perform to support with company’s hope (Robbins, 2001). In another words, employee does Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB). When employees work, they will always connect with their work environment. OCB on employees will be high if they present in a positive organization climate. This research aims to know the relationship between organization climate and organization citizenship behavior in Retail Company employee. Respondents of this research are 95 employees working in 4 Retail Companies. The sampling method is cluster random sampling. The data collecting method is organization climate scale and organization citizenship behavior scale. This research uses content validity and Alpha Cronbach reliability. The reliability of organization climate scale is 0,937 and organization citizenship behavior scale is 0,965. The data distribution of organization climate and organization citizenship behavior is normal (z=0,327; z=0,058; p>0,05). The relationship between organization climate and organization citizenship behavior variable is linear (F=0,000; p<0,01). This research is a quantitative research which its data analysis is simple regression. The result of this research shows that the coefficient regression is 0.720 and the coefficient correlation is 0.568 with its significance 0,000 (p<0.01). This result proves that there is a positive relationship between organization climate and organization citizenship behavior in retail company employee. The contribution of organization climate variable toward organization citizenship behavior variable is 32.2%.
