Abstract

Without the provision of differentiated services for gifted students, a program would merely label them as gifted students without offering a truly gifted program. The potential risk that may arise when gifted students receive regular instructional services is underachievement; therefore, it is necessary to implement a differentiated curriculum model for gifted students. This article describes not only the curriculum model used in schools with gifted student programs or acceleration classes, but also examines the model’s validity, practicality, and effectiveness. The method employed was a combined model of RDR (research, development, research) and R2D2 (recursive, reflective, design, and development), incorporating adaptations, modifications, and/or specific transformations. Data were collected through documentation, unstructured interviews, questionnaires, and observation. The curriculum was developed based on the following procedures: Minister of National Education Regulation (Permendiknas) No. 22 of 2006, identification, escalation, determination of essence, mapping, organization, and time allocation.

Abstract

Buton is one of the Malay Kingdoms located in Southeast Sulawesi. As time went by, more and more people from the Malay world came to Buton. This was due to the strategic position of Buton as a trade route in Eastern Nusantara. In addition, this movement was encouraged by the intention to spread Islam. As part of the Malay Kingdoms, the use of the Malay language was indispensable. The script collection of ancient texts of the Buton Kingdom (Abdul Mulku Zahari’s collection) indicates that the Malay language was taken as one of the official languages used in the kingdom, alongside Arabic and Wolio. From the collection, it was found that Malay scripts were older than Arabic and Wolio scripts (according to their colophons). This language was also used to write manuscripts on religious teachings, official letters of the kingdom, adat laws, history, genealogy, literature, traditional medicine, language instruction, and primbon.

Abstract

In his novels, Dickens delivers important social messages through his empathetic characters living lives of misery, oppression, slavery, degradation, and exploitation under the so-called capitalistic system. These underclass people holler their plight of injustice and crises of the actual social milieu. From a Marxist perspective, these multiple crises are embedded in themes of exploitation, class consciousness, sacrifice, and revolution. Hence, the realism disguised under literary devices could hopefully accomplish dual purposes: both as a means of provoking a new kind of “social consciousness” among the bourgeoisie and as a means of raising the proletariat’s class consciousness.

Abstract

This article is intended to understand the phenomenon of women writers in Indonesian literature in the 2000s. Their literary works emerged amid a literary field dominated by male writers. Viewed from a feminist perspective, these women writers strive to assert their position by attempting to deconstruct the patriarchal system. Through their works, they seek identity through literary production and literary criticism. Their existence in Indonesian literature in the 2000s became a pioneering form of women’s rebellious action against the patriarchal system in Indonesian literary history. Through works that received awards from Dewan Kesenian Jakarta and the Khatulistiwa Literary Award, their writing capabilities have been recognized. However, their skill in producing literary works does not necessarily receive positive responses from either society or literary critics. Many harsh criticisms attempt to marginalize their works.

Abstract

In Ngadireso, Poncokusumo, Malang, the Srimpi Lima dance is performed by five dancers wearing similar costumes but different colors of sampur. The floor pattern is rectangular, allowing clockwise movement by the dancers. Moreover, this dance has symbolic meaning due to its function as a ruwatan ceremony for ontang-anting, or an only child who is considered a sukerta child. The aim of this study is not only to describe the performance and function but also the symbolic meaning of the Srimpi Lima dance in the ruwatan ceremony. To obtain a clear description, the researcher applied a qualitative descriptive method through interviews, observation, documentation, and document collection. The research procedure was conducted through several stages: planning, conducting the research, data analysis, and data presentation. The results of the study show that the symbolic meaning of the Srimpi Lima dance is intended to purify the sukerta child.

Abstract

Poetry can help students become more sensitive to language. However, in an EFL situation, students may object to learning poetry. Thus, English teachers should know how to use poetry in their teaching. Teachers should also ensure that EFL learners do not feel worried about understanding poetry, as not all poems are difficult. Moreover, what matters most is learning English through poems rather than learning about the poems themselves. In short, it is suggested that EFL teachers encourage learners to explore poems and write their own. Poetry provides abundant language exposure that improves students’ language sensitivity and creativity in using English.

Abstract

The aim of the study was to describe the cohesive devices found in students’ written discourse, along with their development and usage errors. The data were gathered from students’ writing products of 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders at SDN Baratajaya, Surabaya, using observation and tests as research instruments. The results show that all elementary students’ written discourses (Grades 3, 4, and 5) apply cohesive devices. The cohesive devices most widely used in their written discourse are conjunctions, lexical synonymy, and grammatical ellipsis. The findings illustrate not only the development of cohesive device usage, as reflected in the percentages of conjunctions, repetition, and synonymy in students’ written discourses, but also the description of cohesive device errors through the use of conjunctions, ellipsis, substitution, reference, and repetition.

Abstract

Teachers have a very strategic role in combating corruption, collusion, and nepotism in Indonesia, which have reached an alarming level. This can be achieved because, through education, teachers can internalize the values of anti-corruption, collusion, and nepotism to the next generation of the nation in a natural, programmed, and systematic way. This research aims to reveal teachers’ visions and perceptions toward the program of integrating anti-corruption, collusion, and nepotism materials into the Indonesian language teaching–learning process. The results of this research can be used as a starting point for integrating anti-corruption, collusion, and nepotism materials into Indonesian language teaching and learning.
