Abstract

This research explores workplace well-being in the context of Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia, with a focus on aspects of justice, sincerity, obedience and calling. Workplace well-being in Islamic boarding schools includes a healthy work environment, social support, work-life balance, recognition of contributions, career development, and access to physical and mental health resources. Pesantren as an integral Islamic educational institution in Indonesian Muslim society has a unique approach to workplace well-being, which involves the values of simplicity, sincerity, independence, Islamic brotherhood and independence. This research uses a mixed method which combines qualitative grounded theory and quantitative descriptive approaches. Data was collected through interviews, observation and Likert scales. Development of an Islamic boarding school workplace well-being measuring tool through the steps of developing a theoretical framework, preparing a blueprint, writing items, expert assessment, reading tests, psychological scale tests, differential power and reliability analysis, and preparing the final scale. This measuring instrument was tested using Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA), showing four factors that were able to explain 90% of the variance in workplace well-being in Islamic boarding schools. CFA results indicate high validity and reliability of this instrument. Workplace well-being in Islamic boarding schools is formed from justice, sincerity, obedience and calling, which emphasizes internal spirit over external needs, approaching workplace spirituality from a positive psychology perspective. This research concludes that workplace well-being in Islamic boarding schools can be achieved through a harmonious balance between justice, obedience, sincerity and calling in carrying out Islamic boarding school duties.

Abstract

Some adolescents experience dissatisfaction when their bodies undergo unwanted changes. They will develop an exaggerated negative self-image that leads to body dysmorphic disorder (BDD). The negative image that adolescents with BDD tendencies have of themselves is not only limited to their appearance but has extended to their whole self. Some adolescents with BDD tendencies experience self esteem problems. This study aims to determine the effect of gratitude therapy on self esteem in adolescents with BDD tendencies. The subjects in this study amounted to 8 people selected by purposive sampling technique. Subjects in this study are adolescents aged 15-18 years and have dissatisfaction with certain body parts. This type of research is a two group randomized pretest-posttest control group design with instruments in the form of a body dysmorphic disorder tendency scale and Rosenberg self esteem scale. The data in this study were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test and the Mann Whitney test. The results showed that gratitude therapy can increase self esteem in adolescents with BDD tendencies. This can be seen from the results of the Mann Whitney test which shows a value of Z = -2.021 (p = 0.043 <0.05). Therefore, it can be concluded that gratitude therapy can increase self esteem in adolescents with BDD tendencies.

Abstract

Although various sexual education media have been developed, the number of marriage dispensation applications continues to show a worrying upward trend. This indicates that the existing educational efforts have not been effective in preventing early marriage. Therefore, an innovative approach is needed to produce sexual education media that is more effective and comprehensive. This study aims to develop an alternative medium of child marriage prevention in Surakarta City in the form of Serat Widya Pramana-Based Sexual Education E-Comic. The research employed the Research and Development method, covering three out of five stages of the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development). The e-comic development was evaluated for its content, linguistic and media feasibility by experts and potential users. Additionally, pilot testing was conducted on a small-scale research subject using a Quasi-Experimental One-Group Pretest-Posttest design. The e-comic received a score of 68 (good) from the healthy reproduction material expert, 80 (good) from the literature expert, 96 (excellent) from the language experts, 90 (excellent) from the media experts, and 69.3 (good) from prospective users. Subsequently, pilot testing was carried out on 10 (4 females and 6 males) adolescents from SMK "X" Surakarta. Data analysis using the Paired Sample T-Test showed a significant increase in sexual knowledge (p=0.000, p<0.05) and a significant decrease in adolescents' intention toward early marriage (p=0.008, p<0.05). Therefore, the Sexual Education E-Comic Serat Widya Pramana is deemed suitable as an alternative medium for preventing early marriage in Surakarta City.

Abstract

Although studies have documented the prevalence of stress among university students, limited attention has been paid to how students define and experience it. This study, part of a larger investigation into Rileks, a culturally adapted web-based stress management program for Indonesian university students, examined how students conceptualize stress and identify its signs. A total of 68 participants, predominantly female and aged between 19 to 42, participated in the study. They were enrolled in undergraduate to doctoral programs and were recruited through convenience sampling via the Rileks study platform. Thematic content analysis was conducted on responses to open-ended questions in the Rileks’ first module, which asked about students' definitions of stress and the signs they experience. Coding was carried out manually using Excel, and inter-rater reliability checks were applied to enhance analytical rigor. Three main themes emerged in students’ definitions of stress: perceived pressure or tension, circumstances exceeding coping capacity, and stress as a state of disruption. A minor theme was stress as a motivating factor. Each main theme encompassed multiple areas of student life, extending beyond academic concerns, and some responses reflected cultural values such as family expectations and societal demands. Students also described signs of stress across four domains: physical, cognitive, emotional, and behavioral. These findings indicate that students’ perceptions of stress may shaped by personal and contextual factors, offering practical implications for enhancing early recognition and communication of students’ stress through approaches that are both relevant and culturally sensitive.

Abstract

Abstract. Raising children with autism presents ongoing emotional and psychological challenges. The aim of this research is to explore how social support and religiosity influence the well-being of parents raising children with autism. Following the PRISMA framework, this review analyzed 45 studies through a systematic literature review approach. The studies were selected using the PECO framework and assessed for quality with the Q-SSP and ROBINS-E tools. The participants in the reviewed studies consisted of parents or caregivers, with varying demographics, including age, gender, cultural background, and levels of religiosity. Various data collection techniques were employed, including qualitative interviews, quantitative surveys, and mixed-method approaches; analysis methods included thematic interpretation and statistical modeling. Findings show that social support reduces stress and improves coping abilities, particularly when parents receive consistent support from partners and communities. Religiosity contributes as a psychological and emotional coping resource by offering meaning, comfort, and resilience, though in certain contexts it may also lead to feelings of guilt or stigma. The influence of both factors varies across cultural and social settings. The results highlight the distinct but complementary roles of social support and religiosity in strengthening parental well-being. Integrating these elements into culturally sensitive intervention models may enhance support systems for parents. Future research should aim to examine integrative approaches that connect social and spiritual support strategies. Keywords: autism spectrum disorder; parental well-being; religiosity; social support; systematic review.

Abstract

Easy internet access and rising usage intensity have contributed to the rise in Online Gender Based Violence (OGBV), with early adult showing the highest internet use and OGBV cases. Resilience has an important role for victims to deal with the negative impact. Spirituality is one predictor of resilience, but previous findings show a weak relationship between the two, so a mediator variable is needed. Spirituality, which also affects self-esteem, may help enhance resilience. This study aims to determine the role of self-esteem in mediating the effect of spirituality on resilience in early adult victims of OGBV. A total of 116 OGBV victims aged 18–25 and living in West Java participated by completing the CD-RISC, SWBQ and SLCS-R scale questionnaires online. Data were analyzed using path regression and bootstrapping with Process Macro for SPSS 4.2. The results showed that there was a significant effect of spirituality on resilience in early adult victims of OGBV by 0.0135 (p < 0.05). Then there is a significant effect of self-esteem on resilience in early adult victims of OGBV by 0.0000 (p < 0.05). Then it is proven that there is a role of self-esteem in mediating the effect of spirituality on the resilience of early adult victims of OGBV by 0.8463 (p < 0.05). Therefore, all hypotheses in this study are accepted. Spirituality contributes 56.82% to resilience through self-esteem, and the remaining 43.18% is explained by other variables excluded from the study. Practically, spiritual activities help boost self-esteem and resilience in OGBV survivors.

Abstract

Cultural considerations play a pivotal role in the diagnostic process of mental disorders, underscoring the necessity for clinicians to incorporate a cultural formulation in their assessments, as recommended by the DSM-5. This aligns with the fundamental principle of cultural competence essential for clinicians. This study seeks to investigate and elucidate the content of hallucinations and delusions experienced by psychotic patients of Javanese cultural background. This research used an authobiographical approach in qualitative research. Data for the research were derived from authobiographical source, specifically personal narratives of former patients documented in the book 'Ratu Adil'. Thematic analysis was employed for data analysis. Findings revealed a prevalence of delusional experiences over hallucinations among participants. Delusions and hallucinations frequently contained cultural elements, with Islamic themes being the most prominent, followed by Javanese, Chinese, and global cultural elements. The identified themes in the content of delusions and hallucinations depict manifestations of these cultural influences. In conclusion, this study underscores that the content and themes of delusions and hallucinations represent the participants' internal perceptions, often reflecting the external cultural milieu or environment.

Abstract

This study explores the role of Andhap Asor, a Javanese cultural value emphasizing humility and emotional restraint, as a coping mechanism for early adult women from broken home families. Using a qualitative approach with an intrinsic case study design, the research involved four Javanese women aged 20–30 who had experienced parental separation. Data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews, field notes, and non-participant observation, and analyzed using thematic analysis. Findings reveal four primary emotional regulation patterns: acceptance, suppression, distraction, and resilience. These strategies were deeply influenced by the internalization of Andhap Asor, which provided participants with a cultural framework to reinterpret emotional pain into personal growth. The value of Andhap Asor enabled participants to respond to emotional adversity with self-reflection, patience, and spiritual meaning—rather than with resentment or reactive behaviors. Thus, Andhap Asor serves as both an internal and social emotional regulation strategy, fostering psychological resilience and supporting interpersonal harmony. These findings highlight the significance of incorporating culturally grounded approaches in psychological interventions, particularly for individuals coping with the emotional impacts of family dysfunction.

Abstract

Khusyu’, as the core of devotion and even religion, has not been given enough attention in behavior measurement research. This study aims to adapt the Mindfulness during Worship Scale (MWS) to measure khusyu'. By formulating measurable dimensions and objective indicators, this research will make the quality of khusyu' easier to measure. It can provide the foundation for future research on what factors contribute to and hinder the attainment of khusyu' in prayer. A pilot study was conducted with 220 respondents from four age groups (15 - 20, 21 - 25, 26 - 30, and over 30). Three levels of analysis were conducted: item, construct, and theory level. The results indicate that the MWS-adapted items are valid when applied to all respondents, but not to 15-20 and 21-25. The reliability analysis showed an acceptable value (0.715) for the whole sample. However, variations were observed between the different age groups. However, the results of the CFA indicated an invalid model. Factor analysis also showed that adapted MWS items clustered into four distinct factors. In theory, the MWS can be applied to the cognitive domain and, to some extent, the emotional aspect, but it does not adequately capture the psychomotor dimension of khusyu'. Further research is needed to develop a theoretically robust and statistically valid measurement framework that includes cognition, emotion, and psychomotor dimensions and applies to all ages.

Abstract

Abstract. Optimism is a positive expectation within individuals shaped by various internal and external factors. This study aims to examine the Optimism Model with positive affect as a mediator in the relationship between self-esteem, proactive personality, school connectedness, and parental attachment toward optimism among vocational high school students. The research was conducted quantitatively on 896 twelfth-grade students in Surakarta using simple random sampling. Data were collected using six standardized psychological scales: Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), Proactive Personality Scale (PPS), Measurement of School Connectedness (MOSC), Parental Attachment Scale, Life Orientation Test-Revised (LOT-R), and the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS). Data analysis was carried out using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with Lisrel 9.10. The result indicate that the proposed model demonstrated good fit across several indices, supporting its structural validity. All four exogenous variables significantly influenced positive affect. However, positive affect did not significantly mediate optimism (t=0.53). optimism was more strongly influenced directly by self-esteem, proactive personality, and parental attachment. Although school connectedness showed no significant direct or indirect effects, its total contribution remained meaningful. These findings suggest that positive emotional experience is not the only pathway to optimism and highlight the direct role of psychosocial factors in fostering optimism among vocational students. Keywords: optimism; parental attachment; positive affect; proactive personality; school connectedness; self-esteem Abstrak. Instrumen pengumpulan data terdiri dari enam skala psikologis terstandar: Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), Proactive Personality Scale (PPS), Measurement of School Connectedness (MOSC), Skala Kelekatan Orang Tua, Life Orientation Test-Revised (LOT-R), dan Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS).
