Abstract

The spread of LGBT is increasingly widespread on social media through various content. One content that is similar to transgender behavior is imitation content which is very popular with teenagers. This article aims to describe the perceptions of Muslim teenagers who follow gender-similar content about waria, including behavior about being waria, identity and gender roles. Informants are teenagers aged 13-18 years with the criteria of being Muslim, who have followed social media accounts that carry out gender impersonation and show active liking, sharing or commenting activities, and have followed gender impersonation accounts for at least 1 year. There were 15 informants. This research was analyzed using the Colaizi 1978 model, namely reading data repeatedly, extracting significant statements in each answer description, coding meaningful and important statements, including them in themes, describing in detail and unambiguously, identifying similarities in points of view and sublimation thematic concept, finally validating the participants. The research results have shown that informants have different perceptions regarding the behavior of being a trans woman, namely positive and negative. Positive perceptions are influenced by cultural education in each individual. Negative perceptions are influenced by religious beliefs (beliefs). Negative perceptions of transgender identities are born from religious beliefs. Positive perceptions are born from social construction. Perceptions regarding the identity of trans women are divided into perceptions originating from knowledge about the human body which tend to be negative, and perceptions originating from social construction which tend to be positive.

Abstract

The purpose of writing this article is to examine Riffat Hassan's thoughts, as well as criticize his views on the hadith on the 'creation of women' which he considers to be a misogynist hadith. This was done by Riffat with the aim of deconstructing and offering another interpretation, with feminist analysis, in order to produce an egalitarian understanding. The method used in this paper is qualitative with a literature study approach. The main data used in this study are Hassan's thoughts contained in the book entitled Women's and Men's Liberation and the book Equal Before Allah. These two articles clearly illustrate Riffat Hassan's thoughts on misogynistic hadith. The data analysis used is by presenting the data (Riffat Hassan's views on the hadith on the creation of women), then examining in depth the truth of the data, then criticizing this view. The results of this research are (1) explaining the influence of thought and cultural background which influenced Riffat Hassan's feminist thinking, (2) explaining the results of Riffat's reinterpretation of the theory of the creation of women, and his rejection of traditional interpretations which seem to demean women, (3) various criticisms of Riffat's thoughts regarding the misogynistic hadith 'creation of women', starting from criticism of sanad to problematic matan.

Abstract

Gender inequality significantly contributes to the increased vulnerability of women living with HIV/AIDS (WLHA), limiting their access to adequate healthcare and exacerbating social stigma. This study explores the dynamics of access, participation, control, and benefit of digital-based healthcare services for WLHA in Surakarta, Indonesia, employing Harvard’s gender analysis framework. It aims to understand how digital health platforms—such as telemedicine, telenursing, telepharmacy, websites, and social media—reshape healthcare engagement for WLHA amidst systemic gender disparities. Using an exploratory qualitative method, data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation from key informants including healthcare officials, WLHA, medical workers, and support groups. Analysis followed an interactive model with triangulated sources to ensure data validity. The findings reveal that although digital platforms provide promising access to promotive, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative care, WLHA’s full participation remains hindered by male-dominated control over digital technology, entrenched stigma, and institutional discrimination. However, mobile health (mH) interventions have positively influenced WLHA’s knowledge, behavior, decision-making, and self-efficacy. This study underscores the urgent need for gender-responsive digital health policies and capacity-building strategies that empower WLHA and reduce structural barriers to equitable health access.

Abstract

Recently, "beauty as it is" has been featured in commercials for beauty products, movies, and music videos. This concept arose from a lengthy conversation about normative beauty, according to which a beautiful lady is always characterized by having fair complexion, straight hair, and a fresh face. This study, in response to these developments, challenges if, in the manufacture of "beauty as it is," capitalists continue to use women's bodies as commodities instruments, not only beauty and sexiness but also women's flaws and powerlessness. In more detail, this study employs a critical paradigm, Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis, and Stuart Hall's representation theory to deconstruct the denotation, connotation, and myths that form in the music video for Yura-Yunita-Tutur Batin. Findings of this study indicates that women who do not adhere to beauty norms would face prejudice. The prevalence of beauty privilege is damaging not just to women who are far from beauty standards, but also to gorgeous women, who are regarded as having beauty capital alone. The female body is once again objectified in this video. Women's physical appearances are shown in a variety of ways by expressing themselves as they are, but the music video nonetheless builds conventional standards of beauty. The body positivity campaign resulted in poisonous body positivity, and women supporting women was only carried out by women with the same physical issues, while the rest depicted women dropping other women.

Abstract

This study aims to describe how Asghar Ali Engineer reconstructed the position of women in the traditions of primordial society through a contextual reinterpretation of the texts of the Qur’an. This research is of the library (Library Research) type, involving examination and review of data originating from library sources. There are two sources of data: primary data taken from written works by Asghar Ali Engineer, and secondary data obtained from books and journal articles that are aligned with the theme of women's liberation. The results of this study indicate a typology of Asghar Ali Engineer's thought in viewing women, which differs significantly from other thinkers. This distinction arises for two reasons: firstly, he addresses the issues of perspectives that have evolved in the Islamic world regarding women, not solely from a fiqh standpoint but also encompassing philosophical, anthropological, sociological, and historical aspects. Secondly, he presents his writings within the context of the socio-cultural challenges encountered by the Islamic world in modern times. Asghar Ali Engineer argues that Islamic teachings aim to establish a balanced life between men and women, despite historical dominance of the male role that has perpetuated doctrines of inequality between genders.

Abstract

Polygamy continues to generate deep contention within Muslim societies, particularly due to conflicting interpretations regarding its implications for gender justice. While Islamic teachings permit polygamy under strict conditions, its practice often triggers public debate over whether it reinforces patriarchal dominance or violates women’s rights. This study aims to critically examine the contrasting perspectives on polygamy through the lens of two influential figures: Coach Hafidin, who advocates for polygamy through paid mentoring programs, and Musdah Mulia, a leading feminist Muslim scholar who opposes it. Utilizing a qualitative content analysis approach, this research draws on primary data from video documentation—especially the Narasi Newsroom’s broadcast—and complementary secondary materials including academic literature and social media discourse. The findings reveal a fundamental dialectic between a religious-cultural defense of polygamy and feminist critiques that highlight the institutionalization of gender inequality. Coach Hafidin’s arguments frame polygamy as a legitimate, even necessary, religious practice, while Musdah Mulia deconstructs it as a form of gendered injustice that undermines women’s autonomy and dignity. This article underscores the need for contextual and ethical reconsiderations of polygamy, advocating for interpretations of Islamic teachings that prioritize justice, equality, and human dignity in contemporary Muslim life.
