Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is an acute febrile illness caused by infection with the Dengue Virus (DENV) and transmitted by Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. This disease is one of the most prevalent tropical diseases affecting humans. In Kadokan Village, DHF ranks as the leading public health concern due to the high number of cases, particularly in Tegalmangu Hamlet. This condition is closely associated with the community’s low awareness of the importance of Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) in preventing the spread of DHF. This study aims to enhance community knowledge and awareness regarding the prevention and management of DHF through Mosquito Breeding Site Eradication (PSN) and the implementation of PHBS. The methods employed include observation, health education sessions, and the administration of pre-test and post-test questionnaires to assess the level of knowledge. The observational findings indicate behavioral changes related to environmental cleanliness, while the pre-and post-test results show a significance value of 0.012 (p<0.05), indicating a statistically significant difference in community knowledge before and after the educational intervention on DHF and PHBS.

The aim of this activity is to increase the knowledge of posyandu cadres about hypertension and better nutrition so that early prevention can be carried out. The method of activity carried out is by providing outreach and education about preventing overnutrition and hypertension with a healthy lifestyle. This activity was carried out in 2 villages, namely in Bolon Village and Baturan Village, Colomadu District, Karanganyar Regency. This activity was attended by posyandu cadres in the 2 villages. This activity was carried out in conjunction with routine meetings of posyandu cadres in Bolon Village and Baturan Village. In Bol on Village, counseling was carried out on preventing overnutrition with balanced nutrition, which was carried out using the FGD (Focus Group Discussion) method, while in Baturan Village it was carried out in conjunction with a meeting of village posyandu cadres at Siaga Sejahtera Sejahtera (DS3). Abstract

Stroke, often caused by hypertension, is the primary focus of this community service project. Knowledge about the care of post-stroke patients is crucial, including understanding proper positioning for turning, appropriate movement exercises, personal hygiene for patients, and special diets for stroke patients. This community service activity aims to enhance the knowledge and skills of the people in Mayang Village regarding the care of post-stroke patients and to prevent complications in stroke patients. The implementation method used is a pre-experimental design with a multiple group pretest-posttest, consisting of (1) planning stage, (2) preparation stage, (3) implementation stage, and (4) evaluation stage. A quantitative approach is applied through pre-test and post-test surveys assessing the knowledge and attitudes of caregivers. The sample includes three caregivers of post-stroke patients and 17 congregants of Mushola Nur Hidayah in Mayang Village. Data were collected using questionnaires before and after educational sessions that included multidisciplinary education, simulations, and discussions. The analysis results indicate a significant improvement in the knowledge and attitudes of the people in Mayang Village regarding proper post-stroke patient care.

Abstract

Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) in pregnant women is a nutritional issue that directly contributes to increased maternal and infant morbidity and mortality rates, as well as the overall quality of future generations. Bekonang Village, located in Mojolaban Sub-district, Sukoharjo Regency, is one of the areas still facing significant challenges in preventing CED, as indicated by the low awarene ss among pregnant women regarding the importance of balanced nutrition during pregnancy. This community service activity aimed to improve pregnant women’s knowledge about CED and its prevention through structured and communicative nutrition education. The method consisted of nutrition counseling delivered through interactive lectures, discussions, and leaflet distribution to 30 pregnant women. Knowledge levels were assessed using pre-test and post-test instruments to evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention. The results showed a significant increase in knowledge scores after the educational session, indicating the success of the educational approach used. Additionally, participants demonstrated high levels of enthusiasm and active engagement, which contributed to achieving the program’s objectives. Target ed and participatory nutrition education has proven to be an effective strategy for supporting CED prevention at the community level. This activity is expected to serve as a promotive and preventive model that can be replicated in maternal health programs in other regions.

Abstract

The main issue faced in Wirun Village is the low level of awareness among the community, particularly children, in practicing Clean and Healthy Living Behaviors (PHBS) and managing waste wisely, despite the availability of waste collection facilities. To address this issue, a team of students from the Community Service Program (KKN) at Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta initiated an educational program on PHBS, combined with a creative learning activity involving the recycling of used plastic bottles. The implementation method consists of three stages: planning, execution, and evaluation. The activities were conducted through interactive education, handwashing practice, waste sorting, educational games, and a painting competition using pots made from used plastic bottles. The results of the activities showed an increase in children's understanding of PHBS and waste management, as evidenced by participants' enthusiasm, their ability to distinguish between types of waste, and good teamwork in the painting competition. Evaluations through observation and games demonstrated that a participatory and creative educational approach significantly enhances children's memory and understanding. The conclusion from this activity is that the educational program successfully achieved its objectives and has great potential for sustainable implementation. It is recommended that similar activities be conducted regularly and involve the participation of parents and community leaders to ensure broader and more sustainable impacts.

Abstract

The availability of clean water is a crucial issue in Jatimulyo Village, South Lampung Regency, particularly during the dry season. Residents face difficulties accessing water sources due to a limited understanding of the subsurface groundwater potential. In response to this problem, a team from the Sumatra Institute of Technology (ITERA) conducted a community service activity aimed at mapping this groundwater potential. This activity utilized the geoelectric resistivity method to identify subsurface structures and determine the locations and depths of potential aquifers for drilled wells. In its implementation, the team collaborated with the local village government and involved participants from the Geophysical Engineering and Petroleum and Gas Engineering Study Programs. In addition to technical surveys, the team also conducted a socialization of their findings and provided education on groundwater utilization. This event, attended by residents, local neighborhood (RT) heads, and village officials, highlighted the importance of proper aquifer identification, well maintenance techniques, and strategies for ensuring water resource sustainability. This initiative received positive appreciation from the village head and residents, who hope the results of the ITERA study can provide a concrete solution to address the challenges of clean water availability in their region.

Abstract

Stunting remains a significant problem in Indonesia, with 148.1 million children under five affected globally in 2022. Stunting hinders both physical and cognitive development, with primary contributing factors including inadequate nutrition and caregiving practices. This community service activity aimed to increase fathers’ knowledge about caregiving through a door-to-door approach in Desa Makamhaji. The activity was conducted on December 12 and 16, 2024, following three main stages: planning, implementation, and evaluation. The results showed an increase in fathers’ knowledge scores from 71.88 to 93.75. Fathers’ involvement, such as playing with their children, was shown to strengthen emotional bonding and help detect early signs of stunting. This educational program effectively raised fathers’ awareness of their important role, particularly in ensuring proper nutrition, maintaining environmental hygiene, and providing psychosocial stimulation. Similar interventions are recommended to continue addressing knowledge gaps in community-based stunting prevention.
