Abstract

This study aims to examine the inlandsch polietiek (indigenous politics) implemented by the Dutch Colonial Government during the colonial period in the Dutch East Indies in the 19th century. This study focuses on analyzing the religious and educational practices conducted by the Dutch Colonial Government throughout its rule. Utilizing historical research methods, this study found that the Colonial-Dutch Government adopted a fluctuating political strategy between neutrality and security to maintain its power. In the religious context, the Colonial Government tended to support Islam in its pure religious aspect, yet strived to prevent Islamic intervention in state administration affairs. Islamic education was compelled to follow an independent path, free from political influences. This conclusion is supported by the Besluit dated March 5, 1860, No. 10 f issued by the Dutch Colonial Government, and an analysis of Aqib Suminto's book, "Islamic Politics in the Dutch East Indies," which illustrates efforts to diminish the influence of Islam. Consequently, Islamic education received less attention and was forced to conform to the educational framework established by the Colonial Government.

Abstract

This study aims to find out the background of the formation of Peraturan Daerah (Regional Regulation – Regional Regulation) Number 4 of 2019. The researcher found that there is an effort by the Bali provincial government to provide a legal umbrella to the Customary Village in regulating its citizens and forming awig-awig or village rules respectively as a customary village. But the migrants in Bali who are mostly Muslims in Bali feel this is a form of discrimination. To analyze this problem the author uses qualitative research. Primary data sources are from the Bali Provincial Legal Bureau, from the Village Development Office, Traditional Village administrators, and migrants in Bali.  Meanwhile, migrants on the island of Bali, the majority of whom are Muslims, feel that the Adat Village regulation as the embodiment of Regional Regulation Number 4  of 2019 is a discriminatory regional regulation because it provides a legal umbrella for the implementation of fees/collections carried out by Adat Villages in Bali. There is also competition or competition such as in the economic field, migrants or tamiu who live in Bali to try their luck and make a living are considered obstacles for residents. The 2011 bombing incident was also the peak of the conflict because the perpetrators were migrants/tamiu in Bali.  This research finds that the relationship between Islam and Hinduism in Bali appears to be harmonious, but in fact it is shrouded in several hidden conflicts called Pragmatic Tolerance. The contribution of this research is expected to benefit the meaning of religious moderation in the scheme of real religious tolerance in Indonesia.

Abstract

This research aims to find a sociological understanding of the Mother Earth myth in the Sundanese tradition in West Java, Indonesia. Based on an intercultural approach in philosophy, researchers combine cross-disciplinary analysis, namely philosophy, sociology and anthropology. This combination of interdisciplinary studies complements methods of interpreting texts and contexts regarding cognitive understanding, especially the principles of reasoning about meaningful worldviews in everyday life. The results of this interpretation are principles of reasoning or logic called functional logic. This argument about the logic of function starts from two layers of interpretation of two elements in the culture of agrarian society. The first element is the mythology of the Paddy Goddess, and the second element is the mythical figure of the Paddy Goddess, which is the main symbol in the description of rice cultivation. These two elements contain an understanding of the paradoxical relationship between two aspects that combine with each other in the management and structuring of the agricultural world. These two aspects are found in parental culture: father and mother. This study presents the interpretation of the text and context of the mythology and symbols of the Paddy Goddess and the practice of rice cultivation. Interpretation of mythology, the symbol of Paddy Goddess and rice cultivation requires a synchronic approach and emic analysis to conclude the implied meaning, namely the principle of function as the core meaning implied in the mythology of Paddy Goddess and Rice cultivation. This interpretation shows that logic functions as the main principle of reasoning that combines various cultural elements into a logical and meaningful 'way of seeing' the life world, which influences Sundanese people consciously or not in experiencing their culture in a logical and meaningful way.
