Abstract

Education plays a very important role in improving the quality of human resources. One of the main problems in education in Indonesia is the low learning outcomes of students, partly due to the use of inappropriate learning methods. The problem-based learning (PBL) model is one approach that can improve students' critical thinking skills because it emphasizes active and independent solving of real problems. This study aims to determine the effect of the problem-based learning (PBL) model on students' critical thinking skills in Economics class XI at MA As Salamah in the 2024/2025 academic year. The background of this study is the low critical thinking skills of students due to conventional learning methods. The approach used was quantitative with simple linear regression analysis. The research instruments were tested for validity and reliability, with all items declared valid (r > 0.306) and reliable (α = 0.802 for X and 0.797 for Y). The normality test showed that the residual data were normally distributed (p = 0.200; Monte Carlo Sig. = 0.841). The regression analysis results showed an R value of 0.965 and an R² value of 0.932, and the t-test showed a significant effect of variable X on Y (p < 0.001). Thus, PBL has a positive and significant effect on students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of character education and religious moderation at SMP Muhammadiyah Pleret, Bantul, Yogyakarta, as an essential effort to develop students’ moral integrity and tolerance in a multicultural society. The main issue addressed in this research is the gap between the expected character values and students’ real behavior, which reflects challenges in internalizing moral and moderation principles in daily school activities. The objectives are to describe the implementation of character and religious moderation programs, identify supporting and inhibiting factors, and propose strategies to strengthen these values in accordance with students’ needs. The study employs a qualitative descriptive approach with data collected through interviews, observations, and documentation involving school principals, teachers, and students. The results show that the integration of ISMUBA (Islam, Muhammadiyah, and Arabic Language) programs—such as daily Qur’an recitation, Dhuha and Dzuhur prayers, Friday charity, and clean-up activities—has effectively promoted discipline, religiosity, responsibility, and tolerance among students. Teachers serve as role models and facilitators, while parental collaboration and school culture strengthen the implementation. However, limited digital utilization, lack of supervision outside school, and negative media influences remain challenges. The discussion highlights that strengthening collaboration, digital character education, and teachers’ competence in moderation are crucial strategies. In conclusion, character and religious moderation education at SMP Muhammadiyah Pleret has been effectively implemented and contributes to shaping moderate, moral, and responsible students aligned with the vision of progressive Islamic education.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of multicultural-based learning strategies as an effort to develop student character at Tunas Karya Comal Vocational High School. The background of this research stems from the needs of 21st-century education, which demands not only mastery of knowledge and skills but also character development that respects socio-cultural diversity. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach, with subjects including general and vocational subject teachers and 11th-grade students. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that multicultural-based learning strategies were implemented through cross-group discussions, social projects based on national values, the integration of character values into vocational practice, and contextual learning based on local culture. The implementation of these strategies fostered student character in aspects of tolerance, social empathy, discipline, responsibility, independence, and open-mindedness. Teachers served as mediators of multicultural values, learning facilitators, and role models, creating an inclusive and equitable school climate. Despite facing challenges such as limited understanding among new teachers and a lack of multicultural teaching materials, the school has implemented solutions through teacher training, the development of diversity-based teaching materials, and the establishment of a school culture that values differences. Overall, the results show that multicultural learning strategies are effective in developing tolerant, adaptive, and integrated student character, and are relevant for application in vocational education in a diverse global era.

Abstract

This study examines the use of discretion by Immigration Officials in determining damaged passports and their implications for legal certainty and the quality of public services. With an empirical normative approach and qualitative methods, data was obtained through regulatory review (especially Permenkumham No. 8 of 2014 Article 35 paragraph (1) letter f), interviews at three Immigration Offices (Soekarno Hatta, Tangerang, and Bandar Lampung) as well as immigration officials in related fields (drafters of laws and regulations, immigration forensic laboratories, and standardization of Travel Documents), and is complemented by a comparison with ICAO Doc 9303 and the practices of several countries. The findings show that the phrase "giving an inappropriate impression" lacks technical indicators, leading to variations in assessment among officials and across different immigration offices, especially the determination of damaged passports on biodata pages (photo clarity, MRZ, lamination) and e-passport chip function, as well as physical damage (teared, wet, burned, perforated, mold). These These variations potentially cause legal uncertainty and service inconsistency. This study recommends reformulating the regulation by establishing clear criteria for passport damage—covering biodata pages, physical integrity, and administrative categories—to effectively distinguish damage caused by force majeure (exempt from fines) from holder negligence (subject to fines), so that the determination of damaged passports throughout the Immigration Office has directed, consistent, and accountable guidelines.
