Abstract

Infant colic is a condition in which infants cry excessively and continuously without a clear cause, often following a specific pattern, such as occurring at certain times or at night. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of abdominal massage with fennel oil on the incidence of colic in infants in Karangpring Village. This study employed an observational approach with data collection through observation sheets. Data analysis was conducted using the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks test due to the non-normal distribution of the data. Most infants exhibited a history of colic with high crying frequency. After two sessions of abdominal massage using fennel oil per week, there was a significant reduction in colic symptoms (p < 0.001). Anise oil, as an essential oil, is believed to have antispasmodic properties, alleviate gastrointestinal symptoms, and enhance absorption through stimulation of the nervous and hormonal systems. There is an effect of abdominal massage with fennel oil on reducing the incidence of colic in infants aged 0–6 months. It is hoped that midwives can continue to provide education and motivation to parents and caregivers to perform abdominal massage as an additional method to reduce the duration of colic in infants.

Abstract

Basic Life Support (BLS) is a crucial basic skill in the management of medical emergencies, especially in increasing the chances of survival of patients who experience sudden cardiac arrest. BLS actions performed fast and precisely have been proven to significantly increase survival rates. Therefore, this skill is important for all levels of society, especially medical students who will be at the forefront of providing first aid in the health sector. This study aims to measure the level of knowledge about BLS in 231 students of the Faculty of Medicine, Tarumanagara University class of 2022 who have not been exposed to official lecture modules related to BLS. The research design used was descriptive with a cross-sectional approach and simple total sampling technique. The results showed that 58% of respondents had a good level of knowledge, 33.3% were moderate, and 8.7% were lacking. The highest understanding was found in basic aspects such as breathing assessment (99.6%) and awareness that BLS can be performed by anyone (97.4%), reflecting good mastery of basic cognitive concepts. However, understanding of technical aspects such as breath support (44.2%) and pulse assessment (39%) was still low. Therefore, it is very important to improve BLS knowledge and skills through formal training in the curriculum and non-formal such as seminars, workshops, and other educational activities to improve student preparedness in providing first aid, as well as supporting the improvement of the quality of health services in the aspect of emergency.

Abstract

Nutritional problems among toddlers remain a public health issue in Indonesia, including in the Central Lampung region. A mother’s knowledge, as the primary caregiver, plays a crucial role in determining a child’s nutritional status. Good knowledge can help mothers provide balanced nutrition for their children. This study aimed to determine the relationship between mothers’ knowledge of toddler nutrition and the nutritional status of toddlers at Posyandu Tanjung Jaya, Bangun Rejo Subdistrict, Central Lampung. This research used an analytic design with a cross-sectional approach and was conducted from January to February 2024. The respondents were 75 mothers with children aged 1–5 years who visited Posyandu Tanjung Jaya. Mothers’nutritional knowledge was collected through questionnaires, while data on children’s nutritional status were obtained from Posyandu records. Analysis was performed using Fisher’s Exact Test. The results showed that most mothers (93.8%) had good nutritional knowledge, and 94.7% of them had children with good nutritional status. Statistical analysis showed a significant relationship between maternal knowledge and toddler nutritional status (p < 0.001; PR = 11.29). Mothers with good knowledge were 11 times more likely to have well-nourished children. These findings highlight the importance of continuous nutrition education as a preventive effort against toddler malnutrition.

Abstract

According to Riskesdas 2018, the prevalence of emotional mental disorders in Indonesia at the age of ≥15 years is 9.8%, and most cases are not detected or treated adequately. This shows the urgency of interventions that are not only curative, but also promotive and preventive (Yuliani & Rahman, 2022). Moreover, adolescents are often reluctant to be open about their psychological conditions because they are afraid of being stigmatized by their surroundings (Nugroho & Lestari, 2021). The purpose of this study was to analyze the Effect of Community-Based Mental Health Education on the Knowledge and Attitudes of Adolescents in Bangun Rejo Village, Tanjung Morawa District, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra Province. This type of research is a quantitative study with a pre-experimental design using a one group pre-test and post-test design approach. The population in this study were all adolescents aged 13–18 years as many as 38 adolescents who participated in the entire series of educational programs analyzed using the paired t-test statistical test to see the differences before and after the educational program. Research Results Based on the results of education, there is a significance value <0.05 indicating that there is a statistically significant difference in knowledge and attitudes before and after the education program is given. Therefore, the alternative hypothesis is accepted, namely that there is a significant influence of community-based mental health education programs on adolescent knowledge and attitudes. There is an Influence of Community-Based Mental Health Education on Adolescent Knowledge and Attitudes in Bangun Rejo Village, Tanjung Morawa District, Deli Serdang Regency, Sumatra Province.

Abstract

According to WHO data (2023), global DPT immunization coverage has decreased due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Around 25 million children worldwide have not received complete DPT immunization in 2022, which is the highest figure in the last decade. Meanwhile, the 2023 Indonesian Health Profile noted that the coverage of complete DPT-HB-Hib immunization doses (three times) has only reached 85.3%, still below the national target of 95% (WHO, 2023). Giving warm compresses to babies who receive DPT immunization injections can cause a warm, comfortable and calming effect, in the form of touch that can cause the release of endorphins, thereby blocking the transmission of pain stimuli, and can also reduce redness and swelling at the DPT immunization injection site. (Runiari & Surinati 2012) The purpose of this study was to analyze the Effect of Warm Compress Therapy at the Injection Site on Pain in Infants During DPT Combo Immunization at PMB Pera, Medan Tuntungan District, Medan City. This type of research is a quasi-experimental study using the Post-test only control group design approach, namely to determine the effect of warm compress therapy at the injection site on pain responses in infants during DPT Combo immunization. The population in this study that will be used is 40 babies (20 babies for the experimental group and 20 babies for the control group). The sampling technique used is a non-probability sampling technique with a purposive sampling approach. The research instrument is a closed questionnaire that has been tested for validity and reliability. Data was analyzed using the Kolmogorov Smirnov statistical test to determine the distribution of data. Meanwhile, to compare the warm compress group with the control group using the Mann-Whitney test. Based on the results of data analysis with the Mann Whitney Test, the Symp.sig value of 0.000 <0.05 means that Ho is rejected. So it can be concluded that there is a significant effect between warm compress therapy at the injection site during DPT Combo immunization on pain responses in infants at PMB Pera, Medan Tuntungan District, Medan City, North Sumatra Province in 2025.

Abstract

Diphtheria is an infectious disease that is still a public health problem, including in Sampang Regency which recorded the highest number of cases in East Java Province in 2023. This study aims to analyze the relationship between several health factors that are suspected to have an effect on the number of diphtheria cases in Sampang Regency. This study uses a quantitative approach with an observational analytical design and uses secondary data from 14 sub-districts in Sampang Regency. The variables analyzed included the number of undernourished toddlers, the percentage of DPT immunization coverage, population density, the percentage of unhealthy houses, and the ratio of health facilities. The results of the Pearson correlation test showed that there were three variables that had a significant relationship with the number of diphtheria cases, namely the number of undernourished toddlers (r = 0.589; p-value = 0.027), population density (r = 0.768; p-value = 0.001), and the ratio of health facilities (r = 0.543; p-value = 0.045). Meanwhile, the variables of the percentage of DPT immunization coverage and the percentage of unhealthy houses did not show a significant relationship. These findings emphasize the importance of improving nutritional status, managing population density, and improving access to health services as a diphtheria control strategy.
