Abstract

The study entitled Critical Discourse Analysis of Sherly Tjoanda's Political Image as a Woman in the Rosi Kompas TV Program "North Maluku Governor Sherly Tjoanda Speaks Candidly About the Mining Issue" is motivated by the importance of understanding how women's political image is constructed amid the influence of gender ideologies, particularly patriarchy and persistent gender stereotypes in society. This study addresses the question of how Sherly Tjoanda's political image is constructed through the discourse presented in the program. Accordingly, it aims to analyze the construction of women's political image through the dimensions of text, social cognition, and social context. This research employed a qualitative approach using Teun A. van Dijk's Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) framework. Data were analyzed through three stages: description, analysis, and interpretation of textual structures, social cognition, and social context. The theoretical framework integrates Critical Discourse Analysis, political image theory, and the concept of gender ideology in politics. The findings reveal that Sherly Tjoanda's political image is constructed through communication strategies emphasizing competence, decisiveness, and responsiveness in addressing public issues while simultaneously negotiating her identity as a female political leader. The study concludes that women's political image is a discursively constructed phenomenon shaped by language, media representation, and broader social structures. Therefore, effective political communication strategies are essential for establishing political legitimacy while challenging and negotiating prevailing gender stereotypes.

Abstract

The development of social media has expanded the communication space for Indonesian people, but at the same time has increased the risk of breaking the law in digital communication. This study aims to analyze the forms of legal violations in digital communication on social media in Indonesia, the factors that cause them, the problems in implementing regulations, and strategies for their prevention. The research uses a literature review method with qualitative, descriptive, and normative juridical approaches. Data was obtained from laws and regulations, Scopus-indexed journal articles, scientific books, court decisions, and reports from official institutions relevant to digital communication and social media law. Data were analyzed using content and thematic analyses by grouping the literature according to the form of violation, causative factors, impact, and handling mechanisms. The results of the study show that violations of the law in digital communication include defamation, insults, hate speech, the spread of false information, cyberbullying, digital threats, and the dissemination of personal data without consent. These violations are influenced by low levels of legal and digital literacy, weak emotional control, user anonymity, social conflicts, and the nature of social media, which accelerates the dissemination of information. The application of the law still faces difficulties in distinguishing between criticism, opinion, satire, public interest, insults, and hate speech. This study concludes that the handling of digital communication violations must be carried out in a contextual manner, taking into account the content of the message, the communicator's intention, the target, the extent of spread, the public interest, and the impact on the victim. Prevention needs to be done through strengthening digital literacy, platform moderation, mediation, victim recovery, and the proportionate application of criminal law as a last resort.

Abstract

The escalation of the geopolitical conflict between the United States and Iran has contributed to global economic instability, including rising inflation and increases in the prices of essential commodities in Indonesia. In response to these pressures, members of the public have increasingly used TikTok to express their concerns through political satire. This study aims to analyze political satire narratives on TikTok concerning the impact of the United States–Iran conflict on Indonesia. Employing a qualitative approach based on Rodney H. Jones’s Digital Discourse Analysis framework, this study examines textual elements, context, actions and interactions, as well as ideology and power embedded in digital content. The findings indicate that content creators employ humor and multimodal texts to simplify complex geopolitical issues into an accessible form of politainment. Participatory audience interactions contribute to the formation of collaborative discourse, in which satirical content ideologically functions as a form of social catharsis and a psychological defense mechanism for the public amid economic pressures, while simultaneously serving as an indirect form of criticism. The study further demonstrates that social media transforms elite-oriented representations of geopolitical issues into a collaborative form of popular culture that supports collective psychological resilience in digital spaces.

Abstract

Technological advancements have continuously created innovations that make human life more efficient. Artificial Intelligence (AI), which was initially developed to assist humans in performing everyday tasks, has increasingly expanded into digital marketing, particularly through the emergence of AI-generated affiliate content used to promote fashion products on the Shopee e-commerce platform. This study aims to examine how Generation Z, as digital natives with a high level of digital literacy, receives and interprets the use of AI in promotional content. Employing a qualitative approach and Stuart Hall's Reception Analysis theory, this study explores how Generation Z's interpretations can be categorized into three audience positions: dominant-hegemonic, negotiated, and oppositional. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with five Generation Z informants. The findings reveal that although AI has introduced significant innovations and enhanced efficiency across various aspects of daily life, its application in digital promotional content has received criticism due to its perceived lack of authenticity. The characteristics of fashion products, which require detailed and accurate representations of texture, color, and size, make AI-generated virtual models unable to fully replace the representational role of real human models. Consequently, the findings indicate that none of the informants occupied the dominant-hegemonic position.

Abstract

This study investigated the cognitive levels and constructive alignment reflected in a seventh-grade English teaching module at SMPN 24 Tangerang. The study aimed to classify the cognitive levels of learning objectives, learning activities, and assessment tasks based on Bloom's Revised Taxonomy and to examine the alignment among these instructional components using Biggs and Tang's Constructive Alignment Theory. A qualitative document analysis was employed, supported by classroom observations and teacher interviews to triangulate data. The data were obtained from Chapter 5 (Units 1–3) of the English teaching module adapted from English for Nusantara. The findings revealed that most instructional components were categorized at the understanding (C2) and applying (C3) levels, indicating the predominance of Lower Order Thinking Skills (LOTS). Nevertheless, one assessment task reached the evaluating level (C5) and two tasks reached the creating level (C6), showing limited integration of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). The study also found that the instructional components were generally aligned, although several assessment tasks required higher-order cognitive processes than those specified in the learning objectives.

Abstract

The Free Nutritious Meals Program (MBG) is an Indonesian government public policy that has elicited diverse responses in the digital public sphere, particularly on the X platform. This study aims to analyze the discourse construction of criticism directed at the MBG Program on the @menuembegejelek account using Norman Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis, which encompasses the dimensions of text, discursive practices, and social practices. The study employs a descriptive-interpretive qualitative approach by examining seven posts published between February and June 2026, which were purposively selected based on their relevance to the research focus. Data were collected through digital observation, documentation, and literature review. The results show that, in the textual dimension, criticism is constructed through evaluative diction, metaphors, satire, irony, visual humor, rhetorical questions, modality, and intertextuality, which represent the MBG as a policy governance issue. In the discursive practices dimension, criticism is built through the recontextualization of news, government institution videos, memes, and user comments, thereby generating new meanings. In the social practice dimension, the critical discourse represents the ideologies of accountability, meritocracy, evidence-based policy, social welfare, and participatory democracy, which are used to question the legitimacy and implementation of the MBG Program.

Abstract

The advancement of digital marketing strategies has encouraged brands to adopt user-generated content (UGC)-style marketing to create a sense of authenticity through content that resembles users' personal experiences. Although this approach is effective in attracting audience attention, it also has the potential to blur the distinction between personal content and promotional messages, leading to diverse audience interpretations. This study aims to analyze TikTok netizens' reception of the gimmick marketing strategy employed in Prilly Latuconsina's Open to Work campaign for Sensodyne on the LinkedIn platform. The study employed a qualitative approach using a descriptive method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with five purposively selected informants and analyzed using Stuart Hall's reception analysis theory through the encoding-decoding framework. The findings indicate that the UGC-style marketing strategy successfully established a perception of authenticity during the initial stage, leading most informants to perceive the post as a genuine personal experience. However, after the commercial nature of the campaign was revealed, audience reception shifted. Three informants were categorized within the oppositional reading position, one informant within the negotiated reading position, and one informant within the dominant reading position. Differences in audience reception were influenced by the informants' personal experiences, backgrounds, and emotional proximity to employment-related issues. Furthermore, most informants experienced difficulty associating the campaign narrative with the Sensodyne brand and its products, indicating that the campaign's brand relevance was not fully achieved. These findings suggest that the success of gimmick marketing is determined not only by its ability to generate virality but also by contextual appropriateness, communication transparency, sensitivity to social issues, and the clarity of the relationship between the promotional message and the brand identity.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technology has transformed the function of social media from merely a communication platform into a space for self-expression and a new source of economic opportunities for society, including rural communities. This study aims to gain an in-depth understanding of how culture and behavior are constructed within the Cibaliung Community, a public Facebook group with approximately 46.5 thousand members, in utilizing the Facebook Pro feature as a space for expression and a source of economic opportunities. The study employed a qualitative approach using a virtual ethnography method based on Christine Hine's framework, supported by Henry Jenkins' theory of Participatory Culture and the concept of Digital Empowerment. Data were collected through participant observation and digital documentation of posts, comments, and interactions among community members over a period of approximately three months. The data were then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive analysis model, while the trustworthiness of the findings was established through source, technique, and time triangulation. The findings indicate that Facebook Pro is utilized as a space for personal expression, religious expression, local Sundanese-language humor, and digital creativity; as a source of economic opportunities through content monetization, product promotion and sales, and access to employment information; and as a discussion forum in which the comment section has evolved into a collective deliberative space for addressing both local and national issues. These findings demonstrate that the boundary between online and offline spaces has become increasingly blurred and illustrate how rural communities are capable of achieving digital empowerment without requiring substantial capital investment.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze intercultural communication patterns, forms of communication conflict, and strategies for overcoming language barriers between foreign coaches and athletes at Yasanis Wushu Training Center, Surabaya. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through passive participant observation, semi-structured in-depth interviews, and documentation. The research participants consisted of one coach from China and four wushu athletes selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which involves the stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that communication between the coach and the athletes was predominantly characterized by a high-context communication pattern, relying primarily on movement demonstrations, nonverbal expressions, and direct corrective feedback as the principal means of delivering instructions. Language barriers emerged as the primary challenge, giving rise to misunderstandings, uncertainty, and communication conflicts resulting from differences in language, culture, and communication styles. Nevertheless, these conflicts did not escalate into destructive conflicts, as both parties were able to adapt through repeated instructions, movement demonstrations, the use of nonverbal communication, assistance from interpreters in specific situations, and mutual efforts to learn each other's language. The sustained intensity of interaction also fostered mutual understanding, reduced anxiety and uncertainty, and enhanced communication effectiveness. The findings underscore that the ability to adapt to linguistic and cultural differences is a crucial factor in establishing effective communication while supporting the successful development of athletes within a multicultural high-performance sports environment.
