Abstract

The evaluation of Islamic education programs is frequently conducted in a partial, reactive, and insufficiently data-driven manner, resulting in outcomes that have yet to promote systemic and sustainable program improvement. This condition reflects the suboptimal utilization of available management analysis techniques within the discipline of program evaluation. This study aims to explore, describe, and analyze the effectiveness of various management analysis techniques applied in the process of Islamic education program evaluation at several selected institutions. The method employed is qualitative with a multiple case study design, involving three Islamic educational institutions with differing characteristics as units of analysis. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and document review, then analyzed using coding-based thematic analysis techniques. The findings indicate that management analysis techniques such as the balanced scorecard, logic model, gap analysis, data-driven SWOT, and cost-effectiveness analysis demonstrate varying degrees of effectiveness depending on institutional readiness, human resource capacity, and the evaluative culture that has developed within each institution. The findings further reveal that the integration of Islamic values at every stage of evaluation is capable of enhancing the acceptance and commitment of practitioners toward evaluation outcomes. The integrative evaluation model formulated positions spirituality as an additional dimension that enriches the conventional management analysis framework.

Abstract

Evidentially weak educational planning stands as one of the primary root causes of the low quality and inequity of Islamic educational services in Indonesia. Policies formulated without robust data support tend to fail in addressing the root of the problems and produce programs with minimal impact. This study aims to examine in depth the concepts, frameworks, mechanisms, and implementation challenges of data-driven Islamic education planning as an instrument of national education policy. The approach employed is qualitative with a library research method that systematically collects, analyzes, and synthesizes primary literature sources consisting of the latest reference books and reputable national and international scientific journal articles. The analysis was conducted through three main stages, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that effective data-driven Islamic education planning requires the availability of a reliable educational management information system infrastructure, adequate analytical capacity of planning human resources, a responsive feedback mechanism between field data and the policy-making process, as well as the integration of Islamic values as an ethical compass throughout all stages of planning. The data-driven planning model formulated in this study positions data integrity, process inclusivity, and orientation toward the welfare of the community (kemaslahatan umat) as three main pillars that distinguish it from conventional planning models.

Abstract

Islamic educational institutions face mounting pressure to demonstrate quality outcomes that align with both contemporary academic standards and core Islamic values. While Total Quality Management (TQM) frameworks have been widely adopted in educational settings, their application in Islamic institutions frequently overlooks the deeper theological and philosophical foundations that distinguish Islamic education from secular counterparts. This study aims to examine the conceptual integration of TQM principles with the Maqashid Syariah framework specifically the five essential objectives of preserving religion (hifzh al-din), life (hifzh al-nafs), intellect (hifzh al-aql), lineage (hifzh al-nasl), and property (hifzh al-mal) as a holistic quality management model for Islamic educational institutions. Employing a library research methodology, data were gathered systematically from authoritative books, peer-reviewed journal articles, and relevant policy documents published within the past five years. The analysis reveals that integrating Maqashid Syariah into TQM enriches the quality management paradigm by embedding spiritual accountability and ethical governance into institutional processes. The findings further indicate that this integration produces a distinctive quality assurance framework capable of simultaneously addressing educational effectiveness and Islamic values orientation

Abstract

Supervision in Islamic educational institutions has long been practiced in a conventional and bureaucratic manner, focusing primarily on administrative compliance rather than the professional development of educators. This approach frequently fails to address the complex pedagogical realities faced by teachers within Islamic educational contexts. This study aims to reconstruct a supervision model for Islamic education that integrates clinical supervision approaches—which emphasize direct classroom observation, collegial dialogue, and reflective feedback—with transformative supervision approaches that prioritize empowerment, critical consciousness, and systemic change oriented toward Islamic values. Employing a library research methodology, data were drawn from authoritative books and reputable peer-reviewed journals published within the past five years. The findings reveal that a clinical-transformative supervision model grounded in Islamic educational philosophy offers a more holistic, humane, and effective framework for improving teacher professionalism. This reconstructed model positions supervisors not as evaluative inspectors but as partners in professional and spiritual growth within Islamic educational institutions.

Abstract

Islamic education in Indonesia occupies a central yet complex position within the national education system, shaped by a layered regulatory framework that continues to evolve in response to political, social, and global dynamics. Despite formal legal recognition of Islamic educational institutions through national legislation, the implementation of these policies frequently reveals persistent tensions between Islamic educational ideals and the standardizing imperatives of national education governance. This study aims to analyze the position, substance, and implementation of Islamic education policies embedded within contemporary national education system regulations in Indonesia, while identifying critical policy gaps that demand scholarly and practical attention. Using a library research methodology, data were collected systematically from authoritative policy documents, relevant books, and reputable peer-reviewed journals published within the past five years. The findings indicate that while Islamic education has achieved significant formal recognition, structural inequalities, curriculum standardization pressures, and governance challenges continue to limit the transformative potential of Islamic educational institutions within the national system.

Abstract

The quality of Islamic secondary education (Madrasah Aliyah) in Indonesia remains a central concern amid growing demands for competitive and character-based graduates. This study examines the implementation of Total Quality Management (TQM) as a strategic framework for improving educational quality in Madrasah Aliyah. The primary objective is to analyze how TQM principles encompassing continuous improvement, customer focus, data-driven decision-making, and stakeholder involvement are operationalized within the madrasah context. Employing a systematic library research methodology, this study collects, reviews, and synthesizes data from peer-reviewed journal articles, authoritative books, and official educational policy documents published within the last five years. Thematic and content analysis techniques were applied to identify patterns and draw comprehensive conclusions. Findings indicate that madrasahs implementing TQM systematically demonstrate measurable improvements in academic performance, institutional governance, teacher professionalism, and stakeholder satisfaction. However, significant gaps remain in leadership commitment, resource allocation, and monitoring mechanisms. This study contributes to the theoretical and practical discourse of Islamic educational management by offering evidence-based recommendations for TQM adoption in madrasah environments.

Abstract

The managerial landscape of the 21st century demands educational leaders who possess not only technical and cognitive competencies but also a deeply rooted ethical orientation capable of responding to the complexities of a rapidly changing world. Within the context of Islamic education, this ethical orientation finds its most profound expression in the concept of Islamic professional ethics, which encompasses the values of integrity, accountability, justice, and spirituality as the bedrock of professional conduct. This study aims to examine the integration of Islamic professional ethics as a foundational framework for strengthening the managerial capabilities of Islamic education managers in the 21st century. Employing a systematic library research methodology, this study analyzed and synthesized relevant academic literature from reputable sources published between 2017 and 2022. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The findings propose a conceptual model called the IQLAS Framework (Integrity, Quality, Leadership, Accountability, Spirituality), which operationalizes five dimensions of Islamic professional ethics into concrete 21st-century managerial competencies. This model contributes to the academic field of Islamic educational management and offers practical guidance for developing ethical and competent educational leaders.

Abstract

Islamic education is currently confronted with the dual imperative of preserving its foundational theological values while simultaneously responding to the accelerating demands of contemporary society. Conventional approaches to educational innovation within Islamic institutions have frequently been criticized for their fragmented application and limited contextual sensitivity. This study aims to reconstruct the conceptual framework of Islamic educational innovation by integrating Design Thinking methodology with core Islamic values, producing a model that is simultaneously human-centered, process-driven, and spiritually grounded. Employing a systematic library research methodology, this study collects, critically examines, and synthesizes peer-reviewed journal articles, scholarly books, and authoritative educational documents published within the last five years. Content analysis and thematic analysis techniques guide the interpretive process. Findings demonstrate that the five stages of Design Thinking Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test can be organically aligned with Islamic epistemic principles such as mushahadah, tafakkur, ijtihad, tajribah, and taqwim, yielding a reconstructed innovation model that is both methodologically rigorous and Islamically authentic. This model offers a transformative pathway for Islamic educational institutions seeking sustainable, values-driven innovation.

Abstract

Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) in Indonesia face the urgent imperative of aligning their curriculum management systems with the National Education Standards (SNP) while simultaneously preserving their distinctive religious and cultural identity. The integration of these dual demands requires comprehensive institutional transformation that goes beyond mere administrative compliance. This study aims to examine the process of curriculum management transformation in pesantren toward the fulfillment of national education standards, with particular attention to the organizational, pedagogical, and administrative dimensions of change. A systematic literature review methodology was employed, drawing on peer-reviewed journal articles, academic books, and official educational policy documents published between 2019 and 2024. The findings reveal that successful curriculum transformation in pesantren involves three interrelated pillars: structural reorganization of curriculum planning processes, capacity building among educators, and strategic integration of Islamic values within nationally standardized competency frameworks. Research gaps identified in prior studies indicate an insufficient focus on adaptive mechanisms that allow pesantren to negotiate compliance without compromising their ideological foundations. This study contributes a conceptual framework for understanding transformative curriculum management in Islamic educational contexts.

Abstract

Quality assurance in Islamic education institutions remains a pressing concern amid increasing national and global demands for educational accountability. Accreditation and institutional governance are two interdependent pillars that collectively determine the quality standards of Islamic educational institutions, yet their conceptual and operational integration has received insufficient scholarly attention. This study aims to examine quality standards in Islamic education through the lenses of accreditation frameworks and institutional governance practices, identifying the structural and cultural factors that influence their effectiveness. A systematic library research methodology was applied, drawing on reputable academic journals, policy documents, and scholarly books published between 2019 and 2024. Findings indicate that quality standards in Islamic education are shaped by a triadic relationship among regulatory compliance, leadership capacity, and community participation. Research gaps revealed that prior studies have largely examined accreditation and governance as separate domains without exploring their synergistic potential within Islamic educational contexts. This study proposes an integrative governance-quality model relevant to madrasah, Islamic universities, and pesantren environments.
