Abstract

One of the national strategy projects being intensified in Indonesia is the smelter project. The smelter project still requires workers from outside, namely Chinese foreign workers. The arrival of Chinese foreign workers to Indonesia has always been a sensitive issue. There are still many people who question the interests of the Chinese foreign workers. This study aims to find out more about the mobility and role of Chinese foreign workers in the PT Halmahera Persada Lygend smelter project. In an effort to answer this research using the concept of Globalization from Jagdish Bhagwati. This study uses a qualitative method. The results of this study show that the qualifications of Chinese foreign workers are indeed considered capable because the smelter project is a strategic project that is still a new thing in Indonesia so that it requires a workforce that is capable and has experience. This job opportunity can be given to anyone but back again to anyone who is ready and has the capability. The author's suggestions for the future can show the transformation of globalization that has occurred in the smelter project.

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the third largest child sexual tourism destinations in the world. As the capital of Indonesia, DKI Jakarta is the second highest tourist entrance after Bali. In addition, DKI Jakarta is also the main location that has the highest threat of child sexual exploitation in Indonesia. Nevertheless, the Indonesian government has not provided clear protection for children. This study aims to describe the role of ECPAT Indonesia to assist the Indonesian government in dealing with child sexual tourism in DKI Jakarta, using theories of liberal institutionalism, international organizations, and international cooperation. In this study, the role of ECPAT Indonesia was limited from 2012 to 2018. Child sex tourism has rapid development so it needs cooperation from various parties, one of which is ECPAT Indonesia. From 2015 to 2017 cases of commercial sexual exploitation of children were not as high as in previous years. This is inseparable from the collaboration between the Indonesian government and ECPAT Indonesia. The role of ECPAT Indonesia is divided into three sectors, the government, private and community sectors.

Abstract

The Indonesian Government has had a drug problem since the Dutch colonial era. This is a legacy that is currently still a problem in the handling, eradication and prevention of drugs in Indonesia. On the other hand, the Government of Indonesia has a Visa Free Short Visit policy for 169 countries. The policy was formed with the aim of increasing economic foreign exchange through the tourism sector. However, this policy actually has an impact on increasing the number of drug smuggling cases committed by foreign nationals in Indonesia. This study aims to explain how the effect of Visa-Free Short Visit on drug smuggling in Indonesia, using qualitative research methods with secondary data sources. In analyzing Visa-Free Short Visit, this study uses the theory of globalization and transnationalism. The theory of globalization and transnationalism will analyze and explain that the openness of the state can affect the risk of state security. This research ultimately reveals that the Visa Free Short Visit to 169 countries has vulnerabilities to state security such as drug smuggling problems so that this policy needs further evaluation.

Abstract

Iran's nuclear program was first initiated by joining the U.S. Atoms For Peace program. Ithowever, changed when Iranian Revolution was occuring in 1979. Since then, the U.S haswithdrawn its support to Iran's nuclear program. Although the program has beensuspended, Iran continues its development after war with Iraq. The U.S. concerned thatIran's new nuclear program was built to produce nuclear weapons. After failing to preventIran from developing its nuclear program through diplomatic approaches, the U.S. wasseeking a new alternative by using Offensive Cyber Operation or also known as OlympicGames. Together with Israel, the U.S. created the first ever cyber weapon called Stuxnet. The target of this operation is Uranium Enrichment Facility in Natanz, Iran. Specifically,Stuxnet has damaged around 1000 centrifuges whose primarily function is to enrich theuranium. This research aims to find out the reason of the U.S. in using Offensive CyberOperations instead of Conventional Military Operations with regard to Iran's nuclear threat. To do so, this research uses Offensive Realism theory with qualitative method. Theoutcome of this research is: the U.S. as a rational actor has chosen Offensive CyberOperations because the operation has brought the U.S. a number of strategic gains thatcannot be necessarily achieved by Conventional Military Operations. These strategic gainsare 1) Anonimity 2) Practicality in terms of distance, cost and risk 3) Execution easinessand 4) Political and bureaucracy leeway.

Abstract

In 2017 there was a diplomatic crisis among members of The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), specifically between Saudi Arabia and its regional allies, namely the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Bahrain, Yemen and Qatar. The crisis caused Saudi Arabia and several of its allies to blockade Qatar. This study aims to analyze the contribution of Kuwait as a mediator in the conflict between Qatar and Saudi Arabia. The data collection method used is a secondary method. This study uses qualitative data analysis techniques. Based on the results of the analysis, it is known that as a form of contribution in resolving the Arab-Qatar conflict, Kuwait made several efforts, namely: efforts through bilateral meetings with conflicting parties and efforts through the GCC Summit. Kuwait's mediation efforts met a bright spot at the 41st GCC Summit in 2021 which was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This summit resulted in a peace agreement between Saudi Arabia and Qatar. The causes of Kuwait's contribution to mediating the conflict between Qatar and Saudi Arabia can be divided into two factors, namely: internal and external. Internal factors consist of political and economic factors. The external factors are related to regional security.

Abstract

The prolonged separatist conflict that the Partiya Karkeren Kurdistan (PKK) had with the Turkish government was caused by the failure of peace efforts between the two sides, hence raising questions about what caused the failure of the peace effort. Therefore, this article aims to analyze the factors behind the failure of peace efforts between Turkey and the PKK that occurred in 2009-2015. Using Charles Kupchan’s stable peace theory. The article argued that the failure of the peace effort was due to Turkey’s and the PKK’s lack of compliance with Kupchan’s stable peace criteria and conditions, as well as the failure of the peace process at the unilateral accommodation stage as both sides did not trust each other’s commitments. Turkey assumed that if it continued the negotiation process, the PKK would increase their demands. Meanwhile, PKK assumed that the Turkish government was not serious about dealing with the Kurdish Question so that the peace effort was deadlocked.
