Abstract

Mīthāq al-Nisā’ by Ḥanīn al-Ṣāyigh depicts the existential struggles of a woman in Lebanon’s patriarchal Druze society, in which women’s bodies and fates are governed by religious authorities. The study aims to examine the position of Amal, the main female character, trapped in oppressive immanence, and her transcendental efforts to achieve her subjectivity. This descriptive study employs Simone de Beauvoir’s existential feminism as its approach. The findings reveal two key points. First, a woman exists within immanence as the Other due to the objectification of her body and social confinement. Second, subjectivity emerges through gradual transcendence, namely the bodily negotiation in exchange for education, economic independence, divorce, inter-community marriage, and international migration. Amal successfully transforms from the position of an object (the Other) into an authentic subject who holds full power over her own life. This study is expected to contributes to the development of existential feminism in the field of contemporary Arab literary studies, specifically in the Middle Eastern societal context, and offers a new perspective on women’s subjectivity against communal patriarchal structures.

Abstract

In conventional economics one will find a basic macroeconomic model formulated as Y=C+I+G. This basic model is a formulae for counting national income with expenditure approach. Economists and economic students are quite familiar with it. According to conventional economists, in any economy there are three sectors that spend expenditures and earn income; those are household, business, and the government sectors. Economic actors or agents in household sector are individuals or families. Actors in business sector consist of firms, companies, or corporations. The actor in the government sector is the central government as an institutional entity. In the aforementioned model C symbolizes expenditures spent by household sector, I reflects investment spending by business sector, while G represents the government expenditure. This article is the product of a research which reveals that the basic macroeconomic model Y=C+I+G is less realistic. National income figures resulted from applying that model have been underestimated. Not only the model less realistic, underlying assumptions in building the model also are not Islamic. It is even worse that those assumptions have also been proven unfitted to the real world.Endowed with concepts in Islamic economics, this article provides a new model, a model that is not merely Islamic but more realistic as well. In the model being proposed here an additional economic sector is introduced, namely, social sector. Economic actors or agents in this sector consist of social organizations and non-profit institutions, a segment of community whose role and economic contributions have so far been neglected in conventional economics. Now in our presently proposed model, by recognizing them as a specific economic entity the new basic macroeconomic model is to be Y=”C”+”I”+G+A.

Abstract

Globalization’s impact on culture is vividly apparent in the infiltration of foreign cultures into different countries, as exemplified by the permeation of the Korean Wave, or “Hallyu,” in Saudi Arabia. Among the Saudi youth, Korean TV dramas (K-dramas) and Korean Pop Music (K-POP) have experienced immense popularity, marking a significant shift in traditional ideological, political, and economic boundaries. This cultural shift facilitates an enhanced exchange between Korea and Saudi Arabia, igniting a newfound interest in the Korean language and culture. Concurrently, Korean fashion and beauty trends have seized the attention of Saudi Arabian youth, influencing their clothing, hairstyling, and beauty routines. This research aims to unravel the extent of influence and transformation instigated by such transnational cultural phenomena on local cultures. Utilizing a qualitative approach, this study conducts a literature review to explore the depth and breadth of the Korean Wave’s impact on Saudi Arabian society. Researchers face particular challenges, including limited research availability, language and cultural context, and the reliability of available data. However, despite these constraints, the study provides valuable insights into cultural globalization, media influence, and the dynamics of cross-cultural interactions, advancing our understanding of this evolving global landscape.

Abstract

The most Indonesian written manuscripts were written in the Netherlands language. These manuscripts could be accessed by one of the following catalogs: Juynboll Catalogue (1899), Ronkel Catalogues (1909), Riclefs and P. Voorhoeve Catalogue (1977) etc. Unfortunately, the Indonesian researchers have no way to utilize them. According to the international catalogs written in Indonesian and foreign languages, The Malay manuscripts found in Banda Aceh reached about 300 titles. After conducting preliminary research and direct observation to the individual and institutional collectors, it was found that the real numbers of them could reach to a thousand titles of manuscripts that still have separated in various local places. On behalf these facts, the research aims to rescue these manuscripts from a disappearing and extinction by conducting inventory that is predicted to be able to push the Indonesian researchers ahead to discovering their substantial contents that in opinion useful for human life. The output of the research is compiling catalog documents of 1000 titles of Malay manuscripts found in Banda Aceh. The theory and method used in this research are the theory of the codicology and the method of the catalog of manuscripts register. The codicology is subfield studying all of the manuscript’s aspects in details such as the place of storing, the owner of the manuscript, the content of the manuscript, etc. Whereas the catalog of a manuscript register is describing all of systematically manuscript’s physical and objective aspect in details.
