Abstract

Abstract

The utilization of cattle manure as a renewable energy source represents a strategic approach to enhance energy self-sufficiency in rural areas while promoting sustainable livestock waste management. This community service program was carried out in Gampong Luthu Lamweu, Sukamakmur District, Aceh Besar, by a team of lecturers in collaboration with Gapoktan Al-Falah, BEM FT USK, and the KKN-TEMATIK USK students. The activities encompassed initial program discussions, site surveys and observations, technical planning, socialization, construction of a small-scale biogas reactor, and preparation of feedstock composed of cattle manure, water, EM4 activator, and molasses. Fifteen local participants received hands-on training and mentoring on the operational principles, feedstock management, and maintenance of the biogas system. The system successfully generated biogas, as evidenced by a simple flame test demonstrating a blue flame, and contributed positively to livestock waste management and environmental quality surrounding the cattle pens. The biogas system was formally handed over to village management to ensure its sustainable utilization. Overall, the program demonstrates the effectiveness of collaborative community service in promoting renewable energy adoption, enhancing local technical skills, fostering community empowerment, and supporting environmentally sustainable practices in rural settings.

Abstract

This community service activity focuses on identifying groundwater potential as an alternative solution to water scarcity in Meunasah Baro Village, Lhoknga District, Aceh Besar, Indonesia. The target beneficiaries were local residents who experience limited access to clean water, particularly during the dry season. The objective of this program was to provide scientific-based information on subsurface conditions to support sustainable water resource planning at the village level. A participatory and applied approach was implemented, involving local community members in site selection and field activities. The technical method used was a 1D resistivity geoelectrical survey with the Schlumberger configuration. Data were collected through field measurements and processed using inversion software to interpret subsurface lithology and groundwater characteristics. The results indicate that the subsurface layers are predominantly composed of silt and clay materials with low to moderate resistivity values. Although water-bearing layers were identified at depths of approximately 43 to 137.5 meters, the resistivity characteristics suggest that the groundwater is brackish. This condition is likely influenced by seawater intrusion due to the proximity of the study area to the coastline. No significant freshwater aquifer was identified.

Abstract

The creative economy sector offers a viable solution to the high rates of school dropouts and youth unemployment in Gampong Kahju, Aceh Besar. This community service initiative is driven by a lack of productive skills among local youth, contrasted by the surging demand for green interior elements in urban Banda Aceh. The program aims to transform the vocational skills of school dropouts through training in mini-landscape (terrarium) production as an innovative decorative product. The methodology encompasses three key stages: providing entrepreneurial motivation, technical guidance in integrated sculpture-based landscape design, and market trend analysis. The results demonstrate a significant increase in the participants' creative capacity and mastery of aesthetic techniques. However, evaluations highlight the need for quality standardization through visual modules, production efficiency using simple mechanical tools, and the optimization of waste-based materials to ensure production independence. Regarding sustainability, future strategies will focus on digital marketing, the establishment of Joint Business Groups (KUB), and product diversification through technology integration, such as smart lighting. By fostering strategic partnerships with the retail industry, this program is projected to create a competitive and sustainable young entrepreneurial ecosystem within the creative industry.

Abstract

An engaging and stimulating learning environment plays a crucial role in supporting the cognitive and emotional development of early childhood learners. However, many early childhood education facilities still lack educational visual elements within their learning and play spaces. This community service activity aims to enhance the quality of the learning environment through the implementation of an educational mural at TK Khalifah III Kebon Raja, Banda Aceh. The method consisted of several stages, including preliminary observation of the school environment, mural concept design, preparation of tools and materials, painting implementation, and evaluation of the outcomes. The mural concept adopted a marine life theme, featuring illustrations of sea organisms, the use of bright colors, and visually engaging educational elements suitable for children. The results indicate that the mural significantly improved the aesthetic quality of the play area while also creating a more communicative and enjoyable visual learning medium for students. The previously monotonous environment was transformed into a more vibrant and interactive space. In addition, the activity provided experiential learning opportunities for students involved in the design and implementation process. Positive responses from both teachers and students demonstrate that murals function not only as decorative elements but also as effective educational media in supporting early childhood learning. Therefore, the application of educational murals can be considered a simple yet impactful design intervention to improve the quality of educational environments
