Abstract

The transformation of education in the era of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 and Society 5.0 requires learning paradigms that foster independence, creativity, critical thinking, adaptability, and lifelong learning. One approach that addresses these demands is heutagogy (self-determined learning), which positions learners as the primary agents in determining their learning goals, strategies, resources, and evaluation. Although heutagogy has been widely studied in higher education and digital learning contexts, most studies are grounded in Western educational perspectives. Meanwhile, Islamic education research generally discusses learning principles derived from the Qur’an and Hadith in a normative manner without integrating them with contemporary learning theories. This gap forms the basis of the present study. This study aims to analyze the concept of the heutagogical approach, examine its foundations from the perspectives of the Qur’an and Tarbawi Hadith, and explore its implications for contemporary Islamic education. The research employs a qualitative method using a library research approach by analyzing literature on heutagogy, Qur’anic verses, Tarbawi hadiths, and relevant scholarly sources. The findings reveal that the core principles of heutagogy are substantially compatible with Islamic educational values. The Qur’anic concepts of tafakkur, tadabbur, ta‘aqqul, and tadzakkur emphasize independent thinking, reflection, and active knowledge seeking. Likewise, the educational methods of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), including dialogue, consultation, exemplary conduct, and experiential learning, reflect characteristics consistent with self-determined learning. This study concludes that the heutagogical approach can be reconstructed within the framework of Islamic education through the integration of learner autonomy, moral responsibility, and a tawhid-based spiritual orientation. These findings contribute to the development of an Islamic educational paradigm that is responsive to contemporary challenges while remaining rooted in Islamic values..

Abstract

Marāḥ Labīd, authored by Shaykh Nawawi al-Bantani, is one of the most influential Qur'anic commentaries produced by a Nusantara scholar and has played a significant role in the development of Qur'anic studies, particularly within Islamic boarding schools (pesantren). However, its epistemological foundations and contribution to the tradition of Nusantara Qur'anic exegesis have not been comprehensively examined. This study aims to analyze the epistemology of interpretation employed by Shaykh Nawawi al-Bantani in Marāḥ Labīd and to explain its contribution to the development of the Nusantara tafsir tradition. This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach using library research. The data were collected from Marāḥ Labīd as the primary source and supported by books, scholarly journal articles, and other relevant literature as secondary sources. The findings indicate that Shaykh Nawawi integrates tafsīr bi al-ma'thūr and tafsīr bi al-ra'y in a balanced manner, reflecting the theological orientation of Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jamā'ah and the Shafi'i school. Furthermore, Marāḥ Labīd has significantly contributed to strengthening the intellectual heritage, educational tradition, and development of Nusantara Qur'anic exegesis.

Abstract

The Qur'an is the greatest miracle of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), possessing linguistic beauty and depth of meaning that cannot be rivaled by humans. One aspect of the Qur'an's linguistic miraculousness is evident in its use of effective and communicative stylistic devices, specifically the concepts of ījāz (conciseness) and iṭnāb (elaboration) within the science of balāghah (Arabic rhetoric). Ījāz is a stylistic approach that conveys meaning succinctly without compromising the clarity of the message, whereas iṭnāb conveys meaning through more extensive exposition for the purposes of emphasis, clarification, or reinforcement. This study aims to explain the concepts of ījāz and iṭnāb, their various types, and their functions and applications within the Qur'an. It employs a library research methodology with a qualitative approach. Data were gathered from the Qur'an, classical balāghah texts, works on Ulūm al-Qur'ān (Qur'anic sciences), and scholarly journals discussing ījāz and iṭnāb. A descriptive-analytical method was used to examine the theories of balāghah scholars alongside examples of their application in Qur'anic verses. The findings indicate that ījāz and iṭnāb are complementary stylistic devices that contribute to the beauty and miraculous nature of the Qur'an. Ījāz ensures effective communication through expressions that are brief, compact, and rich in meaning, while iṭnāb reinforces the message by providing explanations, emphasis, or details as required by the context. The use of these two styles demonstrates that every sentence structure in the Qur'an serves a precise rhetorical purpose, enabling the message to be conveyed beautifully, accurately, and profoundly. Consequently, an understanding of ījāz and iṭnāb is essential to the study of balāghah for a more comprehensive grasp of the linguistic miraculousness of the Qur'an.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the marketing strategies implemented by Al-Bahjah Hajj & Umrah, examine their conformity with Sharia marketing principles, and identify the challenges encountered in their implementation. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, with data collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, and analyzed using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that Al-Bahjah Hajj & Umrah integrates modern marketing concepts with Islamic values through digital marketing, educational and da’wah-based promotion, partnership development, excellent service, customer loyalty programs, and its flagship Munajat Kubro program. These strategies reflect the application of Marketing 4.0 through digital technology and Marketing 5.0 through customer-oriented services. The marketing practices also demonstrate compliance with Sharia principles, including ṣidq (honesty), amanah (trustworthiness), transparency, maslahah (public benefit), and the avoidance of gharar (uncertainty), as evidenced by transparent information disclosure, supervised promotional content, and the integration of Al-Bahjah’s Manhajiah values into marketing activities. However, the company faces several challenges, including dependence on Buya Yahya’s figure, competition from illegal travel agencies, the rise of backpacker Umrah, regulatory changes in Indonesia and Saudi Arabia, rapid digital marketing developments, and the need to improve human resource quality. To address these challenges, Al-Bahjah Hajj & Umrah continues to strengthen service quality, public education, digital marketing innovation, and human resource development to sustain pilgrims’ trust and loyalty.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the tradition of the murajaah (memorization review) curriculum for Surah Al-Baqarah and Juz ‘Amma at SMPTQ and SMATQ Hasmi, Bogor. The program is backed by the necessity of preserving Al-Qur'an memorization from the inherent human trait of forgetfulness. This policy strategically integrates Surah Al-Baqarah as a macro foundation to build students' mental endurance, alongside Juz ‘Amma as a tactical solution to support practical daily worship. The research method employed is a descriptive case study with a qualitative approach. Data were gathered through participatory observation, literature review, and in-depth interviews with curriculum staff, educators, and students. The results indicate that the murajaah activity is conducted every Monday to Saturday from 08:00 to 08:30 WIB in the auditorium using a classical method, followed by independent recitations (tasmi') in the classroom. The target management is mathematically set at 4 pages per day to minimize student burnout. This tradition is proven to yield comprehensive impacts, including achieving peace of mind, enhancing discipline, improving fluency in prayer recitations, and sharpening brain function to train students' focus and concentration in school.

Abstract

This study examines the traditions of Yasinan, Tahlilan, and Khataman as manifestations of the Living Qur'an, highlighting the dynamic relationship between the Qur'an, local culture, and Islamic identity. The research addresses three main questions: how these traditions represent the community's reception of the Qur'an, how the interaction between Qur'anic values and local cultural practices is constructed, and how these traditions contribute to the formation of Islamic identity. The study aims to analyze Yasinan, Tahlilan, and Khataman as expressions of the Living Qur'an while explaining the dynamic relationship between the Qur'anic text, local traditions, and the social life of Muslim communities. This research employs a qualitative method based on library research using the Living Qur'an perspective. The data were collected from the Qur'an, hadith, classical and contemporary Qur'anic commentaries, scholarly books, and relevant academic journal articles, and were analyzed through descriptive-analytical content analysis. The findings reveal that the traditions of Yasinan, Tahlilan, and Khataman are not merely religious rituals but also represent the community's reception and actualization of Qur'anic values in everyday life. These traditions create a dynamic interaction between normative Islamic teachings and local cultural expressions, fostering an adaptive and moderate Islamic identity while strengthening social solidarity without compromising the essential values of the Qur'an

Abstract

Differences in the interpretation of Qur'anic verses are closely related to the application of Arabic linguistic principles that serve as the foundation for contextual textual understanding. This study aims to analyze the application of the interpretive principles of ism (noun) and fi‘l (verb) in Qur'an 30:27 based on the linguistic framework proposed by Khalid bin al-Sabt and to examine its implications for interpretive differences. This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach using library research. Primary data consist of Qur'an 30:27 and Khalid bin al-Sabt's principles concerning ism and fi‘l, while secondary data are derived from classical and contemporary Qur'anic commentaries as well as relevant scholarly literature. Data were analyzed using content analysis through the stages of identifying linguistic forms, examining the application of interpretive principles, comparing exegetical perspectives, and analyzing their semantic implications. The findings reveal that the jumlah ismiyyah structure and the use of the fi‘l muḍāri‘ convey the meanings of continuity and permanence of Allah's power. Furthermore, the term ahwanu gives rise to differing interpretations due to different applications of the ism tafḍīl principle. The study concludes that the descriptive interpretation is more appropriate than the comparative interpretation within the context of the verse, thereby providing a more coherent understanding of Allah's absolute perfection and omnipotence.

Abstract

The development of Qur'anic exegesis (tafsir) during the Tābiʿīn period represents a significant phase in the history of Qur'anic interpretation, serving as a bridge between the interpretive tradition of the Companions and the emergence of systematic exegetical methodologies in subsequent periods. During this era, Qur'anic interpretation evolved beyond mere transmission of reports (riwāyah) through the increasing application of ijtihād, while remaining grounded in the Qur'an, the Prophetic traditions, and the principles of the Arabic language. This study aims to examine the development of tafsir during the Tābiʿīn period, the characteristics of tafsīr bi al-ijtihād, and its contribution to the emergence of various exegetical trends in the Islamic intellectual tradition. This research employs a qualitative library research approach. Data were collected through documentary analysis of classical tafsir works, scholarly books, and relevant academic journal articles, and were analyzed using the content analysis method. The findings indicate that the Tābiʿīn period constituted a crucial transitional stage in the development of Qur'anic exegesis, marked by the establishment of major schools of tafsir, the wider application of ijtihād in interpreting Qur'anic verses, and the emergence of diverse exegetical orientations, including linguistic (lughawī), juridical (fiqhī), theological (kalāmī), philosophical (falsafī), and mystical (ṣūfī) exegesis. Consequently, the scholarly contributions of the Tābiʿīn laid the essential foundation for the subsequent development of Qur'anic exegesis and the rich diversity of Islamic exegetical methodologies.

Abstract

Qawā‘id al-tafsīr holds an important position in Qur’anic studies because it serves as a methodological guideline for exegetes in understanding and explaining Qur’anic verses accurately. This study aims to analyze the definition, historical development, and scope of qawā‘id al-tafsīr. The research employed a library research method by collecting data from books, journal articles, and various classical and contemporary sources related to the principles of Qur’anic interpretation. The data were analyzed using a descriptive-analytical approach through the processes of description, examination, and interpretation of the relevant concepts. The findings indicate that qawā‘id al-tafsīr refers to a set of general rules or principles used as guidelines in interpreting Qur’anic verses in accordance with their intended meanings. Historically, the principles of qawā‘id al-tafsīr had been applied since the time of the Prophet Muhammad, who was the first interpreter of the Qur’an, and were subsequently continued by the Companions, the Successors, and later generations of scholars. Initially, these principles were not formulated as an independent discipline but were dispersed across works of Qur’anic exegesis, ‘ulūm al-Qur’ān, Islamic legal theory, and Arabic linguistics. Over time, qawā‘id al-tafsīr underwent a process of codification and developed more systematically from the classical to the contemporary period. Its scope includes linguistic principles and contextual principles related to the circumstances of revelation, particularly asbāb al-nuzūl. Therefore, mastery of qawā‘id al-tafsīr is essential for producing systematic and comprehensive interpretations and for avoiding errors in understanding the Qur’an.

Abstract

This study examines the principle of al-Su'āl wa al-Jawāb (question and answer) as one of the linguistic principles in Qur'anic interpretation. This principle plays a significant role in understanding the relationship between questions and answers found in Qur'anic verses, thereby enabling a more accurate comprehension of the messages conveyed by the Qur'an. The study aims to explain the concept of al-Su'āl wa al-Jawāb, its interpretive principles, and the various patterns of questions and answers found in the Qur'an. This research employs a qualitative approach using library research as its primary method. The findings reveal that the question-and-answer patterns in the Qur'an do not always conform to ordinary human communication. In some verses, the answers directly correspond to the questions posed, whereas in others, the answers may be broader, more specific, more general, or even indirectly address the questions in order to direct attention to matters of greater significance. Furthermore, the relationship between questions and answers may occur within the same verse, within the same chapter (sūrah), or across different chapters of the Qur'an. Therefore, the principle of al-Su'āl wa al-Jawāb plays a significant role in assisting Qur'anic exegetes (mufassirūn) in understanding the meanings, purposes, and messages of the Qur'an in a more comprehensive manner.
