Abstract

Vocabulary plays an important role in understanding a person’s thoughts and experiences, spoken or written. This is evidence that a person’s understanding of vocabulary plays an important role in the process of spoken or written language in academic or everyday life—especially for the language learner. Scholars believe that the Arabic language is the richest language in that it consists of various vocabularies, most of them related to cultural concepts. Vocabulary is a tool for carrying meaning, and at the same time it is a tool to think, because the speaker can think and translate what has crossed into his mind and thought with the words he wants. Behavioral theory is one of the theories in the science of psychology that investigates human behaviors and types of stimulus responses presented to them, not related to feelings or the construction of other creation. This theory has been established since the nineteenth century. The classical strand theory was a result of the experiments of Ivan Pavlov, the founder of the behavioral theory’s future development. This theory examined human behavior, which is an apparent movement of some stimuli. It is best known for Reinforcement Response Theory Stimulus. One of the characteristics of behavioral theory is that the teacher is more active and effective, although the learner does not realize what he did, and the teacher becomes the exciter of the inputs and processes of human behavior. The research aims to delve into behavioral theory and to understand it. It also aims to know how to implement this theory in teaching vocabulary, in order to teach foreign languages in general and the Arabic language in particular. Behavioral theory is one of the theories used in teaching vocabulary. It is hoped that this research will solve the problems faced by learners in the future.

Abstract

In terms of its functions, language is regarded as a system of arbitrary vocal symbols through which members of a society communicate and cooperate with one another. It has become the primary means by which people express their thoughts, emotions, concerns, and experiences. Language is a unique characteristic that distinguishes human beings from all other creatures and is a divine gift bestowed by Allah. One of the fundamental functions of language is communication. To achieve communicative competence, individuals require language education, which is essentially a process of bringing about changes in a person's behavior, thinking, and feelings. Through this process, learners develop linguistic behavior and linguistic thinking that enable them to communicate effectively. This article discusses Burrhus Frederic Skinner as one of the linguists who laid the foundation for the behaviorist theory of second language learning. According to Skinner, language learning is the result of the interaction between stimulus and response, which is strengthened through repetition and reinforcement. Furthermore, the learning environment plays a significant role in shaping an individual's competence in acquiring a second language.

Abstract

Abstract

Phonology is one of the most important branches of linguistic science, consisting of phonetics and phonology. Phonetics is the branch of linguistics that studies speech sounds from their physical and physiological aspects, including their production, articulation, transcription, and description. In contrast, phonology studies speech sounds from a functional perspective within the structure of a particular language, focusing on their properties, patterns, and semantic functions. Through phonology, we are able to identify and distinguish pronunciation units and describe various speech sounds and their characteristics. Since its emergence as a scientific discipline, phonology has maintained its focus on speech sounds as the primary medium of human communication. This article aims to discuss speech sounds in terms of their classifications and theoretical foundations, drawing on both classical and contemporary perspectives, including areas of scholarly disagreement. Furthermore, it explores issues in phonology such as the development of tone and intonation, with particular emphasis on the Arabic language.

Abstract

In recent decades, the Arabic language has gained increasing global prominence due to the rapid growth of the Muslim population and the expanding interest in learning Arabic among non-native speakers, both in Arab countries and in educational institutions worldwide. This growing demand has encouraged scholars and language educators to explore effective strategies that facilitate the acquisition of Arabic as a foreign language. Among these strategies, the establishment of a comprehensive linguistic environment is widely recognized as one of the most influential factors in promoting successful language learning. Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor (Islamic Boarding School of Darussalam Gontor) has long recognized the importance of creating such an environment. Since adopting the Direct Method as the foundation of its Arabic language instruction, the institution has consistently cultivated an atmosphere that encourages students to communicate in Arabic in their daily lives. To reinforce language acquisition, Gontor integrates numerous extracurricular activities, including speech contests, theatrical performances, debates, language games, and other Arabic-based competitions. In addition, a dedicated student language committee is responsible for organizing and supervising language-related programs throughout the boarding school. Rather than relying primarily on modern instructional technologies, Gontor has developed a distinctive educational approach centered on continuous exposure to Arabic through an immersive linguistic environment. This environment enables students to practice the language naturally and consistently, thereby strengthening their communicative competence and facilitating the acquisition of Arabic as a foreign language.

Abstract

At this time, the development of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in various fields is very rapid and is viewed as both a necessity and an opportunity. In the field of English language teaching, for example, the development of ICT can provide a new dimension for developing literacy media for learners. ICT is able to provide creative opportunities for young writers. Good writing skills are important for learners' future. However, writing instruction is still commonly conducted in a conventional manner, where teachers often ask learners to write directly without guiding them through the writing process. In many cases, the topics provided are limited, making them less interesting and less challenging, thereby reducing opportunities for exploration, innovation, and creativity. Furthermore, teachers often serve as the only evaluators of students' writing, resulting in limited feedback and interaction throughout the writing process. One way to improve the quality of writing instruction and learners' writing skills through the use of ICT is by utilizing blogs (online journals). Blogs provide an online platform where learners can write about topics they find interesting, edit their work, publish it, and even use it as a medium for sharing ideas with others. It is believed that writing through blogging can provide access to a real audience, encourage better editing, promote innovation, exploration, and creativity, foster more dynamic interaction, enhance literacy skills, and support collaborative learning through teamwork.

Abstract

This research focuses on the Arabic letter Lām, which plays a significant role in speech due to its frequent occurrence, widespread usage, distinctive phonetic characteristics, various modes of pronunciation, and multiple grammatical functions. The study examines the unity of the letter's phonetic form while highlighting the diversity of its grammatical functions. The research investigates the different functions of the governing (ʿāmilah) Lām, including Lām al-Jarr (the prepositional Lām), Lām al-Tawkīd (the emphatic Lām), and Lām al-Amr (the imperative Lām). It also discusses the various types and functions of the non-governing (ghayr al-ʿāmilah) Lām, classifying them according to their respective grammatical roles. To illustrate these functions, the study uses examples of the letter Lām in the Qur'an, particularly in Sūrat al-Kahf, because of the richness and diversity of its linguistic applications. The research also presents statistical data on the occurrence of the letter Lām in the sūrah and analyzes selected Qur'anic verses to demonstrate its different grammatical and semantic functions. The findings reveal that the governing Lām performs several major functions within Arabic sentence structure, including the prepositional, emphatic, and imperative Lām. Likewise, the non-governing Lām serves numerous functions, such as the Lām of oath, the initial Lām (Lām al-Ibtidāʾ), the Lām of specification or attribution, and several other grammatical uses.
