Abstract

Household waste management, particularly organic waste, has emerged as an increasingly urgent environmental issue, including in Makassar City. This activity aimed to enhance knowledge, awareness, and practical skills of community members, especially housewives, in processing organic waste into Eco-Enzyme as an environmentally friendly product. The program employed a participatory approach through interactive lectures, simulations, hands-on practice, and online mentoring via a WhatsApp group. The activity was implemented in the form of a workshop on 14 September 2025 in Makassar, involving approximately 20 participants. The results indicated an improvement in participants’ understanding of household waste management and their technical ability to independently produce Eco-Enzyme. In addition, initial behavioral changes were observed, including the adoption of waste segregation practices and a commitment to reducing the disposal of organic waste to landfills. This program contributes to the development of an applied and participatory community engagement model with the potential to be replicated in other regions to support sustainable waste management.

Abstract

Melinjo is a local commodity with strong potential to be developed into a range of value-added processed products, yet its utilization is still largely limited to raw materials or simple processing, resulting in low economic value. This community service program aimed to improve the capacity of local communities in Ulim District, Pidie Jaya Regency, to process melinjo into marketable products through the introduction of appropriate processing technology, practical training, and business feasibility analysis. The program was implemented using a participatory approach consisting of preparation, community education, demonstration, hands-on practice, mentoring, and evaluation. The technologies introduced included a roasting machine, an emping flattening device, a dryer, a flour milling machine, and a sealer. The results showed that participants were able to produce several melinjo-based products, including emping melinjo, melinjo flour, sweet and spicy emping melinjo, melinjo kastengel, crispy melinjo cookies, and candied melinjo peel. Evaluation results also indicated a very positive response from the community toward the program. Business feasibility analysis demonstrated that all products generated positive profits, with revenue-cost ratios greater than one and benefit-cost ratios greater than zero, while both selling prices and production volumes exceeded the break-even point. These findings indicate that melinjo-based processed products are economically feasible and profitable. Overall, the program not only improved community knowledge and technical skills but also showed that the diversification of melinjo products has strong potential to support household-scale and small-scale enterprises based on local resources.

Abstract

The poor ability to read classical Islamic texts among students at state Islamic universities and among the Muslim community indicates that their level of religious literacy is also low. Therefore, a training program on reading the classical Islamic text Nashaihul Ibad is needed for students in the Da'wah Management Program at IAIN Manado and the congregation of the Nurul Hidayah Mosque in Manado City. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method of an analytical nature and aims to identify the steps implemented to improve the ability of students and mosque congregants to read classical Islamic texts. Primary data were obtained through interviews, observations, and documentation. Secondary data were derived from books and scholarly articles published in reputable journals. The study concluded that the classical Islamic texts reading program was conducted over one semester, consisting of eight sessions. Each session had specific discussion topics, and the methods applied were blandongan and sorogan. The obstacles identified included a low mastery of Arabic grammar (nahwu) and morphology (sharaf), weak intention and motivation, an educational background not from an Islamic boarding school, an unsupportive environment, and limited study time.

Abstract

This community service program aimed to improve awareness and skills in 5R-based waste management-Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Replace, and Replant-at the Pondok Pesantren Yatim & Dhu’afa of Yayasan Dayah Mini Aceh. The main problem faced by the partner institution was the practice of waste disposal through open burning, which has the potential to cause environmental pollution. The methods applied in this program included socialization, training, mentoring, and hands-on practice in processing waste into useful value-added products, such as compost, eco-enzyme, eco-enzyme-based liquid dishwashing soap, and handicrafts made from plastic waste. The results showed an improvement in students’ knowledge and attitudes toward 5R-based waste management. The average knowledge score increased from 46% before the training to 98% after the training, while positive attitudes toward waste management reached 93.8%. Therefore, this program not only contributed to improving the environmental quality of the dayah but also provided sustainable educational and economic benefits, while supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Abstract

This community service activity aims to increase awareness and involvement of residents, especially students, in maintaining the cleanliness of the village environment. This mutual cooperation activity was carried out at the Geuchik's Office and Meunasah Gampong Lambheu, involving students, village officials, and local residents. This activity includes cleaning the area around the office and meunasah, counseling on the importance of cleanliness, and reorganizing cleaning facilities in the area. The results of this activity showed an increase in residents' awareness of the cleanliness of public facilities and created a cleaner and more organized environment.

Abstract

This community service program addressed the limited access to clean water, environmental sanitation problems, and low disaster preparedness among communities affected by hydrometeorological disasters in Rancong Village, Kuta Blang District, Bireuen Regency. The program aimed to improve clean water access, restore the post-disaster living environment, strengthen disaster mitigation awareness, and support village administration through community data collection and mapping. A participatory community empowerment method was applied through field observation, informal interviews, community discussions, clean-up activities, installation of a clean water facility, disaster mitigation education, psychosocial activities for children, population data collection, and village mapping. The program was implemented from 2 to 21 February 2026 with a total of 207 effective student working hours. The results showed that the clean water installation was successfully used by the community, public facilities and residential areas became cleaner and safer, children gained basic disaster mitigation knowledge, and a village map was produced to support local planning.
