Abstract

Limited access to nutritious animal-source food and the need to strengthen social solidarity remain relevant concerns among campus-related communities. This community service activity aimed to distribute qurban meat, improve food access, and strengthen social relationships between the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Syiah Kuala, and its surrounding community. The activity was conducted on May 30, 2026, using a campus-based Islamic philanthropy approach. Its stages included planning, beneficiary identification, animal slaughter, meat processing and packaging, distribution, documentation, and evaluation. A total of five cows and one goat, contributed by faculty members and their families, were slaughtered. The meat was distributed to administrative staff, retired personnel, and residents living around the faculty. The activity successfully provided direct food assistance while fostering care, solidarity, and institutional-community engagement. This initiative demonstrates that campus-based qurban can serve as a practical community service model supporting food access, social inclusion, and sustainable development goals.

Abstract

Instilling patriotism in early childhood is an important effort in shaping the character of citizens with good moral character, responsibility, and concern for their nation. Strengthening civic values in non-formal religious education settings requires a more contextual approach that is easily understood by children. This community service activity was conducted at Baitussaadah Islamic Study Group, Ulee Gle Village, Bireuen Regency, with the aim of cultivating patriotism through civic education integrated with Islamic values. The activity was implemented using an educational-participatory approach through material delivery, interactive discussions, question-and-answer sessions, motivational activities, and examples of applying civic values in daily life. The materials covered an understanding of citizenship, the attitudes of being a good Muslim child, respect for parents and teachers, maintaining unity, obeying positive rules, preserving environmental cleanliness, and developing pride as Indonesian citizens. The results showed that 35 participants actively participated and demonstrated enthusiasm throughout the learning process. Participants were able to understand the relationship between Islamic teachings and patriotism and identify simple behaviors that reflect good citizenship. This activity contributed positively to strengthening character education in non-formal educational settings. It is recommended that similar activities be implemented continuously by involving more stakeholders and utilizing more creative learning media to improve the effectiveness of fostering patriotic values among children.

Abstract

The Volunteer Development Program is a volunteer capacity-building activity organized by the UKK KSR PMI Unit UIN K.H. Abdurrahman Wahid Pekalongan as an effort to enhance the competencies of young volunteers in the fields of Red Cross services, learning facilitation, organizational administration, scientific literacy, and digital media. This program aims to improve volunteers’ technical skills, communication abilities, creativity, and readiness in carrying out humanitarian duties and fostering Youth Red Cross (PMR) activities. The method applied in this program was Participatory Action Research (PAR), consisting of the stages of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The activities were conducted from February to May 2026 and involved 27 young volunteer members as participants. The program consisted of nine activities: Planning Learning Design, blood donation dissemination, competency testing, task force mentoring, organizational administration training, journal writing training, Learning Facilitation Design, microteaching, and Creative Video Design for Digital Profile training. The results of this program demonstrated improvements in participants’ knowledge and skills in first aid practices, evacuation simulations, organizational administration, scientific journal writing, learning facilitation, and digital media production. In addition, participants showed enhanced communication skills, teamwork, self-confidence, and mental preparedness as PMI volunteers and PMR facilitators. The participatory approach encouraged participants to become more actively involved in the learning process through hands-on practice and collaborative evaluation. Overall, the Volunteer Development Program had a positive impact in developing volunteers who are more competent, creative, adaptive, and prepared to face technological advancements and the evolving needs of humanitarian activities in society.

Abstract

Indonesia is highly vulnerable to earthquake disasters due to its geographical location along the Pacific Ring of Fire and the convergence of major tectonic plates. One of the regions affected by seismic activity is Cianjur Regency, West Java, which experienced a destructive magnitude 5.6 earthquake in 2022 associated with the Cugenang Fault. The disaster caused significant casualties, infrastructure damage, and displacement, highlighting the importance of improving community preparedness and disaster awareness, particularly in earthquake-prone areas. This community service activity aimed to enhance public understanding of earthquake hazards, disaster preparedness, and emergency response procedures in Pacet District, Cianjur Regency, one of the areas located near the Cugenang Fault zone. The activity involved village officials, members of the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP), Disaster Preparedness Youth (Tagana), and community representatives. The implementation was carried out through several stages, including preparation, educational socialization, interactive discussions, question-and-answer sessions, and evaluation. The educational materials covered earthquake characteristics and causes, the impacts of the 2022 Cianjur earthquake, disaster preparedness measures, emergency go-bag preparation, evacuation routes and assembly points, and actions to take before, during, and after an earthquake. The results showed that participants demonstrated high enthusiasm and active participation throughout the activity. Participants gained a better understanding of disaster preparedness and mitigation efforts, particularly regarding appropriate emergency response actions during earthquakes.

Abstract

Writing a final project is often a significant challenge for students, who are often hampered by difficulties in selecting a relevant topic, formulating appropriate research questions, and understanding appropriate research methodologies. These challenges often result in many final projects not meeting the expected quality standards. Therefore, this community service activity aims to optimize students' mastery of research methods through an online socialization and training program via Zoom that focuses on effective strategies and techniques. The methods used in this activity are interactive lectures and discussions, designed to facilitate students in developing the skills necessary to write a high-quality final project. It is hoped that the results of this activity will enhance collaboration between students and lecturers and encourage students to be more active in research activities. The discussion on the importance of intensive academic interaction will create an environment that supports in-depth research exploration. The conclusions of this activity indicate that a systematic and integrated approach can have a positive impact on higher education in Indonesia. Recommendations include the need for further training and ongoing support for students in the research process, to ensure valuable experiences that will benefit them in the future.

Abstract

Agricultural waste generated from rural farming activities has significant potential as a renewable energy resource; however, its utilization remains limited due to inadequate knowledge and technical skills among communities. This community service activity aimed to strengthen the capacity of rural communities in transforming agricultural waste into charcoal briquettes as an alternative renewable energy source. The activity was conducted in Nogoro Oro Village, Patuk District, Gunungkidul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia, involving 25 participants consisting of cocoa farmers, farmer group members, farmer pioneers, agricultural extension officers, and village representatives. The program was implemented through a participatory empowerment approach involving preparation, socialization, theoretical explanation, hands-on training, charcoal briquette production, utilization demonstration, and evaluation. The training introduced participants to agricultural waste utilization, biomass carbonization, charcoal briquette processing, and the application of briquettes as alternative solid fuels. The results showed an improvement in participants’ knowledge from 60% before training to 85% after training. Participants were also able to produce agricultural waste-based charcoal briquettes through a simple production process, resulting in approximately 5 kg of dried briquette products. The community response toward the introduced technology was positive, indicated by high participation, technology understanding, perceived relevance, and interest in future briquette production. This activity demonstrates that appropriate technology-based community empowerment can support the conversion of agricultural waste into valuable renewable energy products while promoting sustainable waste management and circular economy practices in rural areas.
