Abstract

Background: Stunting is a condition of impaired growth and development in children resulting from chronic malnutrition, especially during the first 1,000 days of life. Environmental factors such as poor access to clean water and inadequate sanitation significantly increase the risk of infections that impact a child’s growth. One of the indicators of environmental contamination is the presence of Escherichia coli (E. coli) in drinking water, which suggests fecal pollution and poses serious health risks. Purpose: This study aimed to identify the presence of E. coli in drinking water consumed by residents of Sidanegara Village, Cilacap, as a contributing factor to the high prevalence of stunting in the area. Method: This was a descriptive study using a laboratory-based approach. A total of 36 groundwater samples were collected from household wells in RT 08, Sidanegara Village. The samples were examined at the UNAIC Microbiology Laboratory using selective and differential media including EMBA, Lactose Broth, and BGLBB to detect E. coli contamination. Results: The laboratory tests revealed that 6 out of 36 water samples (16.7%) were positive for E. coli, as indicated by the presence of metallic green sheen colonies on EMBA media—characteristic of E. coli growth. Conclusion: The detection of E. coli in household drinking water suggests significant fecal contamination, which poses a risk for diarrheal diseases in children. Recurrent infections can interfere with nutrient absorption, ultimately contributing to stunting. Therefore, ensuring access to clean water and proper sanitation is essential for stunting prevention efforts

Abstract

Background: Feeding rules are guidelines for feeding that include schedules, types, portions, and parental responsiveness in feeding toddlers. Mothers' knowledge of feeding rules plays an important role in shaping toddlers' eating patterns and nutritional status. Objective: To analyze the effect of knowledge of feeding rules on the nutritional status of toddlers aged 24–59 months. Methods: This was a quantitative analytical cross-sectional study involving 97 mothers of toddlers. Knowledge of feeding rules was categorized as adequate in 38 (39.2%) respondents, good in 36 (37.1%) respondents, and poor in 23 (23.7%) respondents. The nutritional status of toddlers was measured using the weight-for-age indicator based on WHO standards. Bivariate analysis used Somers' d test to determine the direction and strength of the relationship between ordinal variables. Results: The majority of feeding rules knowledge was in the adequate category (39.2%), while the nutritional status of toddlers was dominated by good nutrition (64.9%). Somers' d test showed a significant relationship between knowledge of feeding rules and nutritional status (d = 0.462; p = 0.001). The positive direction of the relationship indicates that the better the knowledge of feeding rules, the better the nutritional status of toddlers. Conclusion: Knowledge of feeding rules has a significant effect on the nutritional status of toddlers. Improving education on feeding rules can be an effective strategy for preventing nutritional problems in toddlers.

Abstract

Background: Pregnancy is a physiological period during which the fetus undergoes growth and development that requires additional nutrition. Pregnant women need a higher intake of nutrients than when they are not pregnant. This is because, in addition to meeting the mother's needs, nutrition is also important for fetal development (Permenkes RI, 2014). Weight gain in pregnant women can be used as an indicator to assess nutritional status because generally, all pregnant women experience similar weight increases. In Indonesia, the standard weight gain considered normal ranges from 9 to 12 kg. An optimal weight gain of 12.5 kg is the average representation used for normal pregnancies. Purpose: To determine the relationship between pregnant women's knowledge about maternal nutrition and weight gain in PMB Sri Lestari Ngembak village, Purwodadi subdistrict, Grobogan Regency. Method: The research method used is an analytical survey with a cross-sectional approach using the Kendall-Tau test. The sampling technique in this study used Total Sampling. Results: Based on the Kendall-Tau test data analysis with a p-value of 0.000 < 0.05, there is a relationship between pregnant women's knowledge and weight gain. Conclusion: There is a relationship between pregnant women's knowledge about maternal nutrition and weight gain in PMB Sri Lestari Ngembak village, Purwodadi subdistrict, Grobogan Regency.

Abstract

Background: The postpartum period is the phase following childbirth that lasts for approximately six weeks and coincides with the period of exclusive breastfeeding. The World Health Organization recommends that newborns receive exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life without any additional food or drink, as breast milk is the most natural and optimal source of nutrition for infants. Breastfeeding has also been proven to reduce the risk of breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and diabetes in mothers. According to the Grobogan Regency Health Profile in 2024, the coverage of exclusive breastfeeding reached 81.59%. Although exclusive breastfeeding coverage has met the national target in Indonesia, not all postpartum mothers practice exclusive breastfeeding due to various factors. Knowledge is one of the factors that influence exclusive breastfeeding, and educational interventions can improve postpartum mothers’ knowledge through various methods. This study provides education to postpartum mothers about exclusive breastfeeding using video-based media. Purpose ; To analyze the effect of giving video education on postpartum mothers.
