Abstract

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic metabolic disease associated with purine metabolism disorders that may lead to increased uric acid levels. The duration of the disease, along with blood sugar control and cholesterol levels, can worsen metabolic control and increase the risk of hyperuricemia. This study aimed to determine the relationship between the duration of T2DM and uric acid levels, as well as the influence of blood sugar and cholesterol levels on uric acid levels in T2DM patients. This study was conducted at Klinik Iman from September to October 2025. Data were collected from 32 respondents, including duration of T2DM, uric acid, blood sugar, and cholesterol levels. Data analysis was performed using the Kruskal-Wallis and Chi-Square tests according to data distribution. The results showed a significant relationship between the duration of T2DM and uric acid levels (p 0,05). This relationship was also associated with blood sugar levels (p 0,05). A significant relationship was found between the duration of T2DM and cholesterol levels (p 0,05), as well as between cholesterol and uric acid levels (p 0,05). Therefore, controlling blood sugar and cholesterol levels is important to prevent hyperuricemia in T2DM patients.

Abstract

Tinnitus is the perception of sound without an external source and affects about one tenth of the population, with a small proportion experiencing severe disability. It arises from cochlear injury, central auditory hyperexcitability, maladaptive neuroplasticity, and involvement of limbic, prefrontal, and somatosensory systems, with additional contributions from inflammation, oxidative stress, and metabolic factors. This narrative review summarizes current concepts of tinnitus mechanisms, frequent psychological, auditory, somatosensory, and systemic comorbidities, and available treatments. The strongest evidence supports psychological and sound based interventions such as cognitive behavioral therapy, counseling, hearing rehabilitation, and tinnitus retraining therapy, which reduce distress and improve daily functioning even when loudness changes little. Pharmacological therapy mainly targets comorbid depression, anxiety, sleep disturbance, inflammation, and oxidative stress. Adequate intake of zinc and iron may help prevent tinnitus. Despite several promising options, clinical evidence remains heterogeneous and no single therapy is universally effective, so individualized multidisciplinary care informed by underlying mechanisms and further supported by advances in basic research, biomarker development, and rigorous clinical trials is required.

Abstract

Family resilience training in facing health emergencies and critical situations (K5) is essential to prevent delays in handling emergencies within the household. This study aimed to improve the knowledge, skills, and perceptions of parents in the Kiddos Explorer Medan community regarding family preparedness for emergency situations. The training consisted of two sessions—lecture and practice—covering basic life support (BLS), first aid for wounds, fainting, and choking. A total of 40 parents who met the inclusion criteria and agreed to participate in all sessions were included. Data were collected using pre- and post-test questionnaires across three domains: knowledge, skills, and perception. Statistical analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test. The results showed a significant improvement in all domains (p=0.000). Knowledge increased from a predominantly low category to 45% high, skills improved from 87.5% low to 100% high, and perception rose from 100% moderate to 100% high. These findings indicate that community-based K5 training is effective in enhancing family preparedness for emergencies. This program may serve as a model for strengthening community-based family resilience and can be replicated in other communities.

Abstract

Introduction: Stress is a common psychological phenomenon experienced by adolescents and may have either positive (eustress) or negative (distress) effects on mental health and psychosocial development. Parenting styles play an important role in shaping adolescents’ ability to understand and manage stress. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the relationship between parenting styles and the occurrence of stress among adolescents. Methods: This study employed a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach involving 85 students from SMA Islam Athirah Bukit Baruga, Makassar City. Stress levels were measured using the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) and the Adolescent Distress–Eustress Scale (ADES), while parenting styles were assessed using the Parental Authority Questionnaire. Data analysis was conducted using univariate and bivariate analyses with the Chi-square test. Results: The results showed that most respondents experienced moderate stress levels, and the majority of adolescents experienced positive stress (eustress). Authoritative parenting was predominantly found among adolescents experiencing positive stress, whereas authoritarian and permissive parenting styles were more dominant among adolescents experiencing negative stress. Statistical analysis revealed a significant relationship between parenting styles and stress occurrence among adolescents (p = 0.044; p 0.05). Conclusion: Balanced parenting characterized by appropriate control and warmth plays an important role in promoting positive stress (eustress) among adolescents.
