Abstract

This research focus in analysing the difficulties in applying singular and plural noun of descriptive text made by the students at the tenth grade of SMA Negeri 2 Tanjungbalai in academic year 2020/2021. The objective of this research was to find out the difficulties faced by the tenth grade students in writing descriptive text. Having analyse and understood the errors and the reason behind the difficulties. The instrument of the research was writing test which analysis design. There were three aspects in scoring. They were linguistic difficulty, physiology difficulty, and cognitive difficulty. So it was concluded that the result of this research found linguistic difficulty as the most difficult part for the students in applying singular and plural noun of writing descriptive text with 71%. The other difficulty was in cognitive difficulty with 28%. The last difficulty was find in physiology difficulty with 1%. So clearly, the students need to learn more about the rules in applying singular and plural noun in writing.

Abstract

The research is focused on student’s error in writing sentence of simple past tense.  The objectives of this research were to find the errors in student’s writing at The Tenth Grade Science 1 of SMA Swasta Daerah Kisaran. The subject of this research were 20 students of SMA Swasta Daerah Kisaran. The technique of collecting data used in this research were interview, observation and written test. The researcher used Dulay’s Theory to classify the types of errors. In this research, the researcher found 4 types of errors. Those were ommision, addition, misformation and misordering. The precentage of frequency the errors. It was ommison type (4286%), addition type (5,71%), misformation type (22,86%), and misordering type (28,57%). From all of the types, the highest frequent types of error was ommision.

Abstract

The research was conducted to analyze to describe the students error in writing recount text at SMKS Karya Utama Tanjungbalai. The purpose of the research is to describe to find out the students errors in writing recount text at SMKS Karya Utama Tanjungbalai. The research used qualitative method as the research method. The sample of the research was X OTKP class consists of 25 students. In collecting data, three techniques were used including observation, test and interview. The researcher used the technique of analyzing the data from Dulay theory ( 1982 ) surface strategy taxonomy. The  result students’ test in that were errors of ommision was 17 % , in errors of addition was 13,83 %, in errors of  misformation was 61 %, in errors of misordering was 8,17 %.That students had a problem about using simple past tense in recount text. This error also happened because the students did not master English in generic structure. Furthermore, the students used wrong words because translated word by word from Indonesia to English that is why most of students made error in word choice/word form.

Abstract

This research was conducted to analyse the most dominant difficulties and the factors is caused by students’ difficulty in listening skill. The objective of this research is to identify the difficulties faced by the eleventh grade students of SMA Swasta Daerah Kisaran, to identify factors of causing the students difficulties in listening skill at the eleventh grade students SMA Swasta Daerah Kisaran 2021/2022 Academic Year. This research is a qualitative research. The subject of this research was the eleventh grade students of SMA Swasta Daerah Kisaran 2021/2022 Academic Year. The techniques of collecting the data are Test and Interview. The research used the technique of analysing the data from Miles and Huberman. The steps to analysing the data for the first is data collecting, the research collecting the data from the students, such as test of students. The second is data reduction, the research classifies and reduces the data based on focus. Third is data display, the research arranging the information described in order to draw the conclusion. The research presents the data from the difficulties in listening skill using audio visual media with narrative form and in table form. The result of the research shows that are 33% students who have difficulties in grammar with the total incorrect 20. Then, there are 67% students who have difficulties in vocabulary with the total of incorrect is 60.  The factor of causing the students difficulties found in difficulties listening there are difficulty in vocabulary, house environment, lack of concentration, paralinguistic features such as accent, noise, level of delivery, pronunciation, and intonation,  lack of students in learning English.

Abstract

The research is focused on studnts’ reading comprehension in descriptive text at grade X of SMA Swasta Daerah Kisaran in 2021/2022 academic year.The purpose of this research is to find out whether the Fix-up Strategy there is any effect on students' reading comprehension in descriptive text. The research used a total sampling technique in taking the sample, and the sample are students of X IPA and X IPS at SMA Swasta Daerah Kisaran in 2021/2022 Academic Year. In this research, quantitative research is used. The technique of collecting data in this research are pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The instrument of collecting data is a multiple choice test. The results showed that the mean of the pre-test for the control group is 36, 36 and 44, 00 for the experimental group. The mean of the post-test is 49, 09 for the control group and 77, 50 for the experimental group. The Fix-up Strategy is an effective way to improve students' reading comprehension. The independent sample t-test formula is used to analyze the data.

Abstract

The intended of this research was to find out the significant effect of frontloading strategy with the help of audio-visual media on the students' reading comprehension of report text at Grade XI of SMA Swasta Al Ma’shum Sidodadi in 2022/2023 Academic Year. This research was quantitative research. The population of this research were all class XI consisting of 3 classes. The sample in this research was students of XI MIA 1 as experimental group  using frontloading strategy with the help of audio-visual media and XI MIA 2 as control group using conventional way taken by cluster random in sampling. The instrument of collecting data was test. Before treatment, the pre-test was given. The pre-test obtained with a mean of control group of 52,2 and the experimental group of 64,2. While after treatment was finished, the post-test obtained with a mean of control group of 60,7 and the experimental group of 81,6. The frontloading strategy was an effective way to improve students’ reading comprehension. The result of the analysis obtained that tscore>ttable = 5,66 > 0,2738 then Ha was accepted thus it was obtained that using frontloading strategy has significant effect with the help of audio-visual media on reading comprehension.Keywords: Effect, Frontloading Strategy, Report Text

Abstract

ABSTARCTThe purpose of this study was determine whether there was an effect of using Give One Get One Strategy on Students Reading Comprehension at descriptive text for X grade SMA Negeri 5 Tanjungbalai  in 2022/2023 Academic Year. This research is quantitative research with design of two class, exprimental class and control class. The Population of this research was all class X of SMA Negeri 5 Tanjungbalai. The sample of this research were taken from 30 students of exprimental class (X MIA 1) and 30 students of control class (X MIA 3). The instrument for collecting data was a multiple choices test. The data was analyzed by using t-test formula. From this analysis, the mean score of  pre-test in exprimental class was higher than  and the mean score of pre-test in control class (61,6 > 58) meanwhile the mean score of post-test in exprimental class was higher than the mean score of post-test in control class (82 > 70) and To > Ttable (5% ) = 8,86 > 0.2542.  So, Ha is accepted. In another word, using Give One Get One Strategy more effective and more significant than using conventional strategyKey words : Give One Get One Strategy, Reading Comprehension, Descriptive text.

Advisor: Dian Anggraini Harahap, S.Pd, M.HumThis research was intended to find out the empirical evidence of the students’ achievement in mastery vocabulary by using Duolingo application at the X grade of MAN Tanjungbalai. This research was quantitative research. The population of this research was all the students of class X of MAN Tanjungbalai. Samples of this research were taken from 30 students of experimental group (class X 1) and 30 students of control group (class X 2). The instrument for collecting data was a test. After analyzing the data, the writer got; (1) The students’ achievement in mastery vocabulary by using Duolingo application got the mean 81,33 and standard deviation was 5,04; (2) The students’ achievement in mastery vocabulary by using conventional method got the mean 78 and standard deviation was 4,51. The value of t-observed was 2,729 and that of t-table was 2,009. So, the value of t-observed was higher than that of t-table, it means that there was significant effect of using Duolingo application on students' achievement in mastery vocabulary. Keywords: Duolingo, Vocabulary, Word
