Abstract

The aim of this research is to find out whether there is an effect in implementing the Picture Word Inductive Model (PWIM) learning model on Student's Skill in Writing of Descriptive Text in X Grade SMA Negeri 1 Meranti 2023/2024 Academic Year. This type of research is quantitative research with a two group pre-test and post-test research design. The population in this research is the entire class X which consists of 4 classes. The research sample consisted of 2 classes (classes X1 and X2) which were taken using cluster random sampling. In class X1 as an experimental class using the Picture Word Inductive Model. In class X2 as a control class with conventional methods. After the learning was completed, a post-test was obtained with an average result for the experimental class of 84.41 and the control class of 71.91. Thus, it was found that there was an effect on student learning outcomes using the picture word inductive model on student learning outcomes in English descriptive text material for class X SMA Negeri 1 Meranti.Keywords: Picture Word Inductive Model, Descriptive Text, Writing Skill

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify students' difficulties in speaking English in the 12th grade at SMA AL-MA'SHUM Kisaran. The purpose of this research was to identify student challenges in speaking English, the causes of these issues, and solutions to those difficulties. This research used the qualitative method. The respondents for this study are the students in class XII IPS 2, which consists of 30 students. The respondent was chosen by a purposive sampling technique. The data gathered during the Observation, Interview, and Questionnaire. The Questionnaire consisted of 15 questions. The findings of this study demonstrate that practically all Students have difficulty Speaking English. Most students struggle with pronunciation and have a limited vocabulary in English. Furthermore, the causes of students' difficulties with the research that have occurred include difficulty memorising vocabulary, a lack of enthusiasm, and a fear of making errors. The researcher also discovered a solution to the students difficulties in speaking English, namely that the students required a conducive class, innovative tactics from the teacher while teaching Speaking English, and that the students must keep  using the target language in class and outside of school. Keywords: Analysis, Student’s Difficulties, Speaking

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine there was an effect of game based learning strategy on students‘ ability in writing recount text at x grade of SMA 1 Air Joman in 2023/2024 academic year. This research was quantitative research with a two-group research design, experimental group and control group. The population in this research was all students of X Grade consisting of 4 classes. The sample of this research was taken from 33 students of experimental class (X IPA 2) and 33 students of control class (X IPA 3). The instrument for collecting data was writing test. The post-test was obtained with the average results of the experimental group 74,84 and the control group 66,57. T-test results obtained tscore = 5,40> ttable = 2.65 (at 1% significant level) or 2.00 (at 5% significant level). It means that Ha is accepted, thus it is obtained that there is an effect of game based learning strategy on students‘ ability in writing recount text at x grade of SMA 1 Air Joman in 2023/2024 academic year.Key word : Game Based Learning Strategy, Writing, Recount Text

Abstract

The purpose of this research aims to find out the significant effect on reading comprehension of narrative texts using the 3-2-1 strategy and audio-visual media in class X 1 of SMA NEGERI 1 SEI BALAI for the 2023/2024 academic year. The type of research used is quantitative, quasi-experimental research design with two groups, namely pre-test and post-test. The population in this study was the entire class X which consisted of 3 classes. The samples in this study were 2 classes (classes X-1 and X-2). In class X-1 as a control class with a conventional learning model and in class X-2 as an experimental class using the 3-2-1 strategy and audio-visual media. After the learning was completed, a post test was obtained with an average result for the experimental class of 78.16 and the control class of 66.16. Then a T test was carried out and the result was T table 5% < To > T table 1% ("2.045 < -5.405 > 2.758) so (Ha) was accepted. using the 3-2-1 strategy and audio-visual media in reading comprehension of narrative texts for class X of Sma Negeri 1 Sei Balai for the 2023/2024 academic year."Keywords: Strategy 3-2-1, Audio Visual Media, Reading Comprehension, Narrative Text

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of the project-based learning model on students' ability to write expositions in class XI high school students. This research is quantitative research using the True Experiment method. The population in this study were all class XI students of SMA Negeri 2 Tanjungbalai, totaling 252 students. Determination of the sample using the Cluster random sampling technique. Based on this technique, a sample group was obtained with a sample size of 62 students, namely the Experimental Group with a sample size of 31 students and the Control Group with a sample size of 31 students. Data collection techniques use tests, namely pre-test and post-test. The data collection process involves assigning students to work on Exposition questions. Before analyzing the data, a normality test was first carried out. The results of the research show that there are differences in the ability to write exposition questions for class students who use the project-based learning model, and those without using the project-based learning model. This difference is shown from the results of the independent sample t-test, namely tcount=6,818, ttable 2.000, with a df value of 60, so the hypothesis testing criteria for this research is the Tcoun > Ttable, so the hypothesis value (HO) is rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. This proves that there is a significant effect of the project-based learning model compared to no conventional learning model on the writing ability of class XI students at SMA Negeri 2 Tanjungbalai for the 2023/2024 academic year.Keywords: Project Based Learning, Exposition Text, Writing Ability

Abstract

The objective of this research is to determine how students speaking abilities are affected when using guided discovery learning model by assisted ELSA application is used when making suggestions and offers at the XI grade of SMA NEGERI 1 MERANTI during the 2023/2024 academic year. This research employs experimental methodologies in a quantitative research design. Speaking test is used to collect data. The researchers collected 66 samples in total for this research, divided into two classes, XI MIA 3 as the experimental group and XI II 2 as the control group. From the data showed that the mean of students’ score in pre-test was 62,4 and the score mean was being 90,3 in post-test. In the control group showed that the mean of students’ score in pre-test was 57,7 and the score mean was being 74,7 in post-test. To determine the hypothesis, the independent sample t-test was used. After analysing the data into t-test, it was found that the value of t count (th)9,630. If this was adjusted to the critical score of the product moment of degree of freedom (df) N1 + N2 – 2, df 33+33-2=64, the value of t table with the significant 0.05 (tt) 2.002. Therefore, the calculated t count (th) value the greater than t table (tt) value (9,630≥2.002). Than Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. The research findings support the using Guided Discovery Learning Model by assisted ELSA application give significantly effect on students’ speaking ability. Keywords: Guided Discovery Learning Model, ELSA Application, Speaking Ability

Abstract

This research aims to determine the influence of the problem-based learning model on writing hortatory exposition texts. This research was carried out using quantitative research. The sample for this research was students of class XI TBSM 1 and class XI TITL SMK Negeri 5 Tanjungbalai. There are 125 students in 4 classes. The sample consisted of 58 students using random sampling techniques. The sample was divided into two groups: control group and experimental group. The experimental group was taught using a problem-based learning model, and the control group was taught without using a problem-based learning model. The data collection instrument is a written test. Data were analyzed using the t-test formula. The analysis results show that the tcount value is greater than ttable (2.810 > 2.064). This means that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. Based on the research results, it was found that the problem-based learning model had a significant influence on writing hortatory exposition texts.Keywords: Problem Based Learning Model, Writing Abillity, Hortatory Eksposition Text

Abstract

The identification of the problem in this research, namely : Students’ are difficult to organize the text, Students’ do not how to write well based on structure and grammar The objective of the research are : To describe how well the inquiry method contributes to writing descriptive text, To find out whether there is a in influence on the descriptive text writing achievement of high school students using the inquiry method This research will be conducted in a pre-experimental design using a quantitative approach. The researcher uses an experimental design because this study wants to measure students'' ability in writing descriptive text by using the inquiry method. The researcher will use one class as one group that will get the treatment and a group that will get a pre-test and post-test to find out the results of the treatment. The mean of student’s score in pre-test was 60,41 and after giving the material by conventional learning the mean of student’s score in post-test was being 60,60. Meanwhile, the mean of student’s score in pre-test was 65,83 and after giving the material by using Inquiry Strategy the score mean was being 65,98 in post-test. It means that Inquiry Strategy is effective to students'' writing ability in descriptive text. This shows that the use of inquiry strategy to improve students'' ability to write descriptive text has a significant impact. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the inquiry strategy is a useful instructional tool for creating descriptive texts.Keywords:  writing. inquiry, descriptive text

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of the TQLR strategy on students' listening comprehension, especially in terms of answer accuracy using the TQLR Strategy for tenth grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Meranti.This research design is experimental, used with a pre-test and post-test. The population of this research is Class X students of SMA Negeri 1 Meranti for the 2023/2024 academic year. 40 students from class X and 40 students from class Y were selected as samples using random sampling technique. This research was carried out by researchers from April 6 to April 27 2024 in 12 meetings. Data was obtained through a native speaker listening test using application media as an alternative for students to listen to native speakers.The findings show that the TQLR strategy in terms of answer accuracy is effective for improving students' listening comprehension. This is supported by the students' average score on the pre-test of 5.88 and increasing to 7.88 on the post-test and the t-test score being greater than the t-table score (4.85 > 1.711). And in terms of general understanding, it is also effective in improving students' listening comprehension. This is supported by the average student score on the pre-test of6.43 and increasing to 7.98 on the post-test. And the t-count value is greater than the t-table value (4.72 > 1.711). Therefore, the Alternative Hypothesis is accepted and the Null hypothesis is rejected. Based on the analysis of the results, the researcher concluded that the TQLR strategy really helped students in improving students' listening comprehension. Keywords: Listening Comprehension, TQLR Strategy, British Council Application, General Comprehension.

Abstract

This research aims to the effect of problem-based learning with the help of outdoor learning class as media on students writing report text. This research is qualitative research. The population in this research all class X students’ SMA Swasta Daerah Air Joman total of sample 50 students. Namely class as an experimental class 25 students and another class as a control class 25 students with the sampling technique carried out randomly. There are significant differences in students writing using problem-based learning and without problem-based learning of grade X at SMA Swasta Daerah Air Joman in 2023/2024 Academic Year". The results obtained are T test> T-table (0,05) with df 48. T-test 15,1 > df 2,01. This means, there is a significant difference in the value of the results student learning between classes that apply the problem-based learning and those that do not apply the problem- based learning. So, the problem-based learning is effective and significant on the ability to write English report text.Keywords: Problem Based Learning, Report Text, Writing
