Abstract

Globalization era affects educational fields. A change in the 1994 curriculum is needed. The civic education curriculum should emphasize quality education through the achievement of basic competency, national standard and professional services to produce graduates who are religious, healthty, civilized, well-behaved, hard-working, knowledgeable, high-technology-masters and dedicated to the nation. The curriculum mission developed can increase the instructional implementation by developing reference, instructional guidance and educational infrastructure, develop a basic comptency to increase the educational quality, and develop curriculum diversification and decentralisation

Decentralization of education on district (Kabupaten) is an effort to substitute the centralized system. Abstract

Implementing the autonomy in both provinces and districts will have significant implication to education system. In one hand, it is an opportunity for empowering human resources in provinces and districts independently. On the other hand, it is districts' challenges, because the provinces and districts must be facilitated with lots of factors, mainly human resources factor with its high competencies. These human resources must be developed prior being used as agents of changes in their own districts. Abstract

This article is written in an attempt to argue that there is a need of uniformity in terms of grammar when English is taught as a foreign language. Thus, the idea that prescriptivism is "out of date" as well as "not permissive to language change" is corrected by presenting some arguments of the need to maintain its application. Abstract

This qualitative study was an attempt to identify the problems impeding the implementation of educational approach and to look for suggestions to enlighten and empower approaches to two subsystems of education. Data were collected by in-depth interview and observation in Semarang Municipality. The results show that the system, curriculum, means, learning-teaching strategy, and environment are the crucial factors in the educational management. The suggestions offered are that institutional cooperation is needed, an integrated approach involving the school and out of school education institutions must be enhanced, network of information have to be intertwined, and the Ki Hadjar Dewantara's approach model ought to be socialized and disseminated to all of the two fields of education

Abstract

Through two cycles of actions course designed for preparing teachers of English for primary education has been revised. The objectives are to improve the presentation of the course and to meet the students' need and satisfaction. The result shows that according to the students the course has become more interesting and they admit that they have learned a lot from the course activities. By the end of the semester the course design has been reconstructed based on the result of the actions. Group-discussions, students involvement in material and media selection, adaptation and development are the main characteristics of the revised EYL course

Abstract

This research was aimed at analysing the content of reference books used in theories of learning courses and the efforts to understand them. This research was held in the Department of Educational Technology, State University of Surabaya. The data were gathered by using questionnaires, documentations, and observations, and were then analysed by descriptive statistics. The result showed that the references were relevant to theories of learning subject, the students did not find difficulties in studying the references, and that the references helped the students in writing papers and achieving better outcomes

Abstract

This study was aimed at finding out the relationships between teaching methods, learning skills, learning facilities, learning environment, and students' achievement. A stratified proportional random sample consisted of 329 drawn from 1180 students of IAIN Sumatera Utara, Medan. Data were collected using a questionnaire and then analyzed statistically by correlation and regression techniques. The result revealed that there was a significant correlation between those variables
