Abstract

Most Islamic boarding schools (pondok pesantren) are private educational institutions and had been institutionalized long before the existence of madrasah and all kinds of western education systems in Indonesia. The Islamic boarding schools perform themselves as centers for developing Indonesian man-power, inoculating the spirit of enterpreneurship, organizing agro-religious tourism activities, and developing strong relationships or good cynergetic activities with members of community surrounding the pesantren's. To develop and organize new schools or universities in the future, we can adopt the spirit of self-help or self-support as the heart of pesantren's doctrine. In other words, the essence of pesantren's system can be implemented in our system of national education

Abstract

In the past, most people believed that calculators were useful only for obtaining or checking answers to computation problems. Therefore, in many ways they have often been ignored as a teaching resource. Based on the lack of interest, some parents and teachers have shied away from calculator's use, especially in primary mathematics. Many researchers have also found that using calculators as a teaching aid is most useful and effective in developing number sense and mental computation. The Calculator-Aware Number (CAN) project in Britain found that children develop their own strategies for carrying out calculations and achieve a high level of numeracy when using calculators

Abstract

As a subject matter, Physical Education is aimed at creating and developing learners' health and fitness physically. Many investigations indicate that physical fitness of learners taught by physical education teachers is better than those taught by other teachers (classroom teachers or religious education teachers). However, the learning-teaching process in physical education implemented currently in primary schools depends not only on the (performance of) physical education teacher, but also on the school principal. This article is a conceptual perspective highlighting the way in which the performance of physical education teacher can be optimalized to improve learners' physical fitness through cooperation with other individuals involved

Abstract

The study is aimed at investigating the efectiveness of the Primary School Teacher Education Program (PGSD) in achieving its goals. Data were gathered from 12 Institutes/Faculties of Teacher Training and Education (LPTK) by using questionnaire, interview, observation, tests, and documentary study. Percentage and mean measures were applied to analyze the data. The results showed that the PGSD programs implemented since 1990 was effective, although for some PGSDs the effectiveness level is not sufficient. The insufficiency found in some PGSDs is due to shortcomings in the availability as well as the condition of program inputs and implementation processes: student, curriculum, staff and facilities, program implementation and managemen.
