Abstract

This study aims at identifying the types of category shifts and explaining their occurrence in the translation on J.K Rowling’s Anthology “The Tales of Beedle the Bard” by Andy Hatman. The data are collected using observation method supported by implementing note taking technique in order to find out, identify, and classify the data. The data are analyzed by applying the qualitative descriptive method. The theory applied in this study is the theory of translation proposed by Catford (1965) to identify the types of category shifts found and to explain their occurrence. The result shows that all types of category shifts proposed by Catford (1965) such as structure shift, class shift, intra-system shift, and unit shift are found in the translation. Unit shift occurs in the highest frequency of 41 examples, structure shift occurs in 31 examples, and intra-system shift occurs in 6 examples, and class shift occurs in 1 example. The occurrence of category shift is caused by the different characteristics of source language and target language. Keywords: Category Shift Translation, J. K. Abstract

This study aims to find out the forms of code switching, the most types code switching forms used, the reasons of code switching, the most types code switching reasons used, the forms of code mixing, the most types code mixing forms used, the reasons of code mixing, and the most types code mixing reasons used. This study applies descriptive qualitative to analyze Cinta Laura’s utterances containing code switching and code mixing in Saatnya Perempuan Bicara talkshow. The writer accumulates and analyzes the data qualitatively and presents the findings of this study descriptively. The data found in Cinta Laura's utterances in Saatnya Perempuan Bicara Talkshow are 191 utterances. After analyzing the data, the writer finds 105 utterances analyzed as forms of code switching and forms of code mixing. The writer finds 73 utterances divided into 2 forms of code switching. The inter-sentential switching comprises 31 utterances and the intra-sentential switching comprises 42 utterances. Meanwhile, for the reason of code switching, the writer finds only 1 type of reason of code switching which is topic change. Code mixing found comprising 32 utterances are classified into 3 types of forms: insertion of word covers 5 utterances, insertion of phrase covers 20 utterances and insertion of hybrid covers 7 utterances. On the other hand, the reasons of code mixing found are divided into 2 reasons. They are interjection and repetition used for clarification. Abstract

The aim of this research is to find out whether English fairy tale video is effective or not to improve the students’ writing skill in narrative text at eleventh grade students. This research is an experimental study, which is true experimental. The samples of this study are class XI MIPA 2 as experimental class which consists of 31 students and class XI MIPA 3 as control class which consists of 31 students. This research collects the data from documentation and test. T-test is used to test the hypothesis and the writer uses SPSS 16.0 application. Based on the results of data analysis from several steps in calculating statistical analysis, the result is the score Sig. (2-tailed) is 0.002 = 0.2% < 5%, so H0 is rejected; it means that H1 is accepted. It shows that the mean score of experimental class is better than control class (79.58>74.90). It can be concluded that English fairy tale video is effective to improve the students’ writing skill in narrative text at eleventh grade of SMA Ta’allamul Huda Bumiayu in the academic year of 2020/2021. Abstract

This research mainly aims to find out the correlation between the students’ vocabulary mastery and their English-Indonesian translation ability on the eleventh-grade students of SMK Al-Huda Bumiayu in the academic year 2021/2022. This research is a correlational study. The method of collecting data uses tests and documentation. The score data are obtained from the vocabulary test and translation test. The result of hypothesis testing is the value of rxy = 0,513 > r table = 0,246 (for the 5% level) and 0,207 (for the 1% level). Therefore, it can be concluded that Ha is accepted and H0 is rejected. It means that there is a significant correlation between the student’ vocabulary mastery and their English-Indonesian translation ability on the eleventh-grade students of SMK Al-Huda Bumiayu in the academic year 2021/2022 and categorized in middle level correlation. Abstract

The problems that are often faced by students in mastering English vocabulary is difficulty in memorizing the words. Quiz-quiz trade game is one of the techniques that offers the students to memorize vocabulary easily. Thus, by using quiz–quiz trade game can help the fourth-grade students to improve their vocabulary mastery. The aim of this research is to find out whether using quiz–quiz trade game is effective or not to improve students’ vocabulary mastery on the fourth-grade students. This research uses a true experimental study. This research collects the data from observation, documentation, and test. T-test is used to test the hypothesis. The result of t-test is to 3,956 > ttable 1,697, in other words Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. The writers conclude that the quiz–quiz trade game is effective to improve students’ vocabulary mastery on the fourth-grade students of MI Ma’arif NU Banjarsari. Abstract

This study reveals the English teaching method for students with special needs at Extraordinary Senior High School of Mutiara Hati Bumiayu. The study investigates the process of classroom instruction, teaching methods, obstacles, and alternative strategies of the English teacher during teaching-learning activities. The study uses a case study as the research design, and there are two data collection methods; interview and observation. Both interviews and observation are applied to gain data on the English teacher and inclusion teacher’s strategies in teaching students with special needs. The findings discover the teachers teaching methods i.e. the Grammar Translation Method (GTM) and Total Physical Response (TPR). There are some obstacles in teaching English, such as the students’ moods change and lack understanding of the materials. In this case, the English teacher had alternatives to handle the obstacles, such as guiding the students with behavioral approach, and reducing the learning standard.
