Abstract

Communication is one way for humans to interact with other. Communication is also a way for humans to give or get information. In tourism sector, tour guides must have good communication to speak with tourist. The aim of this thesis is to describe the Interpersonal communication skill used by the tour guides in Borobudur Temple area. To answer the question, the writers uses Joseph DeVito Theory about the effectiveness of interpersonal communication. The findings show the aspect of Interpersonal communication by the tour guides in Borobudur Temple area. The aspects are openness, positiveness, supportiveness, empathy, and equality. The Interpersonal communication used by tour guides in Borobudur Temple went well and effectively, all the tour guides can apply 5 aspect of Interpersonal communication such as tell the truth, think positively, support with the tourist, have empathy with the tourist, and respect to other culture. Abstract

This study aims to find out the types of language style in and what is the dominant type of language style found in Pinocchio movie. The data are taken from Walt Disney movie entitled Pinocchio (2022). The data are collected by using observation and documentation techniques. In analyzing the data, the writers apply descriptive-qualitative method. The data are analyzed by using the theory of language style by Martin Joos (1976), in which there are five language styles namely Frozen, Formal, Consultative, Casual, and Intimate. The result shows that all types of language style are found in Pinocchio movie (2022) which comprises 1 datum of Frozen style, 3 data of Formal style, 6 data of Consultative style, 23 data of Casual style, and 8 data of Intimate style. Thus, the most dominant type found in Pinocchio movie (2022) is Casual style, while the least one is Frozen style. Keywords: Language Styles, Sociolinguistics, Walt Disney Pinocchio Movie (2022)

Abstract

Lack of vocabulary knowledge becomes a struggle that the students face nowadays. In order to have a good language ability the students need to have good vocabulary knowledge. Once the students have a good vocabulary knowledge, they will be able to grasp the lesson, understand the teacher’s instructions and communicate with the teacher and friends better. However, the fact that happened in grade 11 and 12 in a private school in Banten, Indonesia was that they had lack of vocabulary knowledge. The researchers realize that one of the teacher’s roles in the classroom is as a guide. Therefore, in order to solve the problem, the implemented gamification in the teaching and learning process. The purpose of this study is to know how the implementation of gamification affects students’ vocabulary knowledge. The method being used to conduct the research is qualitative descriptive. Abstract

The purpose of the thesis is to find out the ambitions of the main female characters that is Mrs. Bennet, the mother of the main protagonist character named Elizabeth Bennet in the novel Pride and Prejudice written by Jane Austen and published in 1813. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative. The techniques of data collection are reading the novel repeatedly and underlying the necessary lines and quotation in the novel. The result shows that 35 utterances can be identified into Mrs. Bennet’s type of ambition. There are 9 utterances belongs to the Selfishness, 3 to the Perfectionism, 17 to Workaholic and 6 utterances shows the Type “A” Personality. Thus it can be concluded that the most type of ambition owned by Mrs. Bennet is Workaholic. Keywords: Woman Ambition, Pride and Prejudice

Abstract

English is a global language used by native and non-native speakers like Malaysians and Singaporeans in daily life and governmental communication. Proficiency tests such as TOEFL, IELTS, and TOEIC are necessary for those studying or working abroad. English is an official language in ASEAN, MEA/AEC, and the UN. Mastering English is essential for international knowledge, communication, travel, and education. Learning vocabulary is crucial for effective communication and achieving goals alongside grammar. Online games, like Learning Chocolate, can enhance students' vocabulary skills. Research explores whether Learning Chocolate can improve students' vocabulary mastery, particularly at Al-Muslim Elementary School's fifth grade. Abstract

This study is related to the use of coordinating conjunction in mass media, especially news. This research aims to analyze the coordinating conjunctions applied in entertainment and art column on the BBC news articles in November 2023. The method used is descriptive qualitative. Therefore, the writer uses Herring’s theory (2016) to analyze coordinating conjunctions. The source of data in this this study is taken from website of BBC news articles in November 2023. In collecting the data, the writer conducts observation and documentation. The study’s result shows that there are 268 coordinating conjunctions. Abstract

Homonyms are part of linguistics that describe words, phrase, or sentences that are like other expressions but do not have the same meaning. The purpose of this study is to analysis homonyms in the script movie Percy Jackson the Olympians the Lightning Thief by Chris Columbus. The source of the data is the movie scripts Percy Jackson the Olympians the Lightning Thief by Chris Columbus. To collect the data, the writers use Simak Bebas Libat Cakap (SBLC) method. Ghoy classifies categories of homonyms into three aspects, namely Same Category and Same Spelling, Same Category but Different Spelling, and Different Category but Same Spelling (Ghoy et al., 2022; Saeed, 2003) The writer uses IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) to analyse these words. In this study, the writer analyses the data descriptive qualitative. The script movie contains three categories in each aspect, namely in the Same Category and Same Spelling that are homograph, in the Same Category but Different Spelling that are homophones, and in Different Categories but Same Spelling that are heteronym. The results of the writer analyse about the homonyms word. This analysis can add to the list of new vocabulary because homonyms are one of the unique and interesting words. Abstract

Humanity is the positive traits in humans that show their concern for others, caring for and helping others whenever and wherever possible, when others need help the most, forgetting private interests at times, extending unconditional love in every matters. The purpose of this study to analyse the meaning of message humanity as well as the form of action of the message of humanity in the movie Schindler's List 1993 by Steven Spielberg's. The source of the data are^% the movie and the movie scripts Schindler’s List (1993) by Steven Spielberg. To collect the data the writer use Simak Bebas Libat Cakap (SBLC) method. Peterson classifies humanity into three, namely Love, Kindness, and Social Intelligence. (Peterson, 2004: 29). The writer uses Semiotics theory of Saussure to find out the message of humanity in Schindler’s List (1993) movie. In this study, the writer analyses the data qualitatively and presents the findings descriptively. The movie contains those three aspects of humanity that are expressed in which 30 forms totally belong to Kindness (19 forms), Love (7 forms) and Social Intelligance (4 forms). The results of the writer analyse about the message of humanity can be apply in real life, such as human beings, we should be able to treat fellow human beings properly according to their rights as human beings, even though we cannot help in the form of real action, we can also give prayers to those who are suffering. Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyse sociolect jargon, argot and slang and the form of sociolect action in the movie. The movie used is Cool Runnings Movie 1993 by Jhon Turteltaub. The data source is movie and script of Cool Runnings 1993 by Jhon Turteltaub. In the data collection process, the writer uses the method Simak Bebas Libat Cakap (SBLC). In this study, the writers analyse the data qualitatively and presented the findings descriptively. The movie contains all three types of sociolect expressed in 38 forms entirely belonging to jargon (13 forms), argot (8 forms) and slang (17 forms). The results of the writer's analysis of jargon, argot and slang can be applied in real life, for example as humans. Keywords: Sociolect, Jargon, Argot, Slang
