Abstract

Not only are numbers, formulas and symbols common in maths, but there are also games that can be learnt as an addition to the skills that refer to critical thinking. In mathematics, the simple application of games developed in number theory is a form of reflection related to mathematics. One of the applications of number theory that games are capable of is the NIM game. NIM game is an old traditional game that has a strategy in solving the game. In this game, which is carried out by two players, each player has his turn alternately to win it with the rules of this game. The success of winning the NIM game is that there are objects available and undergo the game with the concept (strategy) as a way to take the intended object. A player who takes the last object is the winner of the game. The following will describe 7 NIM games: NIM Maxima, NIM One-Four, NIM Three-Five, NIM One-Three-Four, NIM One-Three-Five, NIM One-Three-Five-Seven and NIM Two-Four-Nine-Eight. This NIM game is a form of application of mathematics in number theory that focuses on congruence theory as a way to determine the winning strategy in the NIM game.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is: To determine the effect of learning styles on students' learning outcomes in mathematics education at the junior high school level in Krueng Sabee District, Aceh Jaya Regency. This type of research is quantitative. This quantitative research can be conducted through correlational, experimental, or descriptive studies (Deni Dermawan, 2013). This study is a correlational quantitative research that involves a variable related to another variable. Correlation here is a number that indicates the direction and strength of the relationship between two or more variables; direction can be interpreted as a positive or negative relationship, and the strength of the relationship can be interpreted by its correlation coefficient. It can be understood that correlational quantitative research is conducted to find the influence of two variables being studied and then determine how strong their relationship is. Learning outcomes are not solely based on grades; rather, the results depend on what is learned. The results of the study on the influence of learning styles on the mathematics learning outcomes of junior high school students in Aceh Jaya show that among visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles, the dominant style possessed by students is kinesthetic learning. This is evidenced by the questionnaire results distributed by the author, which indicate that the percentage of visual learning style is 29.2% with 18 students, auditory learning style is 24.1% with 15 students, and kinesthetic learning style is 32.2% with 20 students. The hypothesis test result show that pearson’s correlation between learning styles and learning outcomes is 0,159 with a significance value of 0,218. Since the the significance value is greater than 0,05, it indicates an insignificant effect; thus , it can be concluded that: a. Ha is rejected; there is no effect of learning style on the mathematics learning outcomes of junior high school student in krueng sabee district, aceh jaya regency. b. Ho is accepted; there is no effect of learning styles on the mathematics learning outcomes of junior high school students in Krueng Sabee District, Aceh Jaya Regency. The study indicates that learning styles do not significantly influence students' mathematics learning outcomes. The correlation test results show an insignificant value between learning styles and learning outcomes (significance value 0.218 greater than 0.05). With a very small contribution effect of only 2.5%, it means there is no influence of learning style (X) on learning outcomes (Y).

Abstract

A reproduction number that is less than 1 for 14 consecutive days is widely recognized as an essential indicator to assess whether epidemic conditions can be brought under control. This paper reveals how this indicator can be applied to evaluate the dynamics of an epidemic both at the early stage and toward its end within a specific region. The effective reproduction number (Rt), obtained based on the SIR (Susceptible, Infectious, and Removed) model and formulated through a finite difference equation, serves as a practical tool to assess the controllability level of an epidemic. Furthermore, by utilizing contact tracing data provided by the Government for COVID-19 suspects, the value of this indicator can be estimated accurately using the developed mathematical formulation. In this study, data were sourced from the official COVID-19 File History of DKI Jakarta, covering the period from July 24 to August 7, 2020. The calculated Rt values were then compared with those reported in similar studies to validate the findings. Differences in outcomes can be attributed to several factors, including variations in methodology, differences in time frames used for sampling, distinct regional epidemic characteristics, government-implemented social restriction policies of varying intensity, as well as vaccination strategies and public compliance levels. These influencing factors underscore the importance of context-specific analysis in using Rt as a reliable indicator for epidemic control evaluation

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the impact of Snowbrawl Gimkit as an interactive learning media on students’ interest and academic performance in mathematics. The research responds to the widespread issue of low engagement and achievement in mathematics, especially in Indonesia, where students’ PISA scores remain below average. This study used a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design of the One Group Pre-test Post-test Design type. The research subjects were 30 eighth-grade students randomly selected from SMP Negeri 1 Socah. The research instruments consisted of a learning interest questionnaire and a mathematics achievement test that had been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis techniques included the Shapiro-Wilk test to assess normality, the Levene test for homogeneity, and the paired t-test for hypothesis evaluation. The results of the study indicate a significant increase in students' interest and learning outcomes in mathematics after the implementation of the Snowbrawl Gimkit media. Statistical analysis yielded a significance value of 0.000 (< 0.05), indicating a significant effect. The average interest in learning increased from 62.2 to 78.47, while the average learning outcomes rose from 38.00 to 56.67. The results of this study indicate that the use of game-based learning media such as Snowbrawl Gimkit is effective in increasing student motivation and learning achievement. This media is able to address the challenge of low student interest in mathematics by making lessons fun and interactive. Therefore, this study suggests that educators integrate gamification platforms into their teaching as a useful innovation.
