Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of mitigation understanding on the anxiety levels of coastal communities in Kota Karang Subdistrict, Bandar Lampung, who received information regarding the potential megathrust earthquake. Mitigation understanding represents a cognitive aspect of disaster preparedness that plays a role in reducing both risk and psychological impacts arising from disaster threats. Meanwhile, anxiety is an emotional response that can affect an individual's mental condition, either realistically or irrationally. This research employed a quantitative approach using a survey method. Data were collected through an anxiety scale developed based on Calhoun & Acocella’s theory and a mitigation understanding scale constructed based on the 2025 Regional Disaster Risk Assessment by the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD). Reliability testing showed a Cronbach’s Alpha value of 0.765 for the anxiety variable and 0.751 for the mitigation understanding variable. The sample consisted of 95 respondents from RT 05 and RT 07 of Kota Karang Subdistrict, Bandar Lampung. The results indicate a significant negative effect of mitigation understanding on community anxiety, with a contribution of 13.1%. This means that the higher the level of mitigation understanding, the lower the level of anxiety experienced by the community. These findings suggest that improving disaster mitigation literacy can serve as a preventive strategy to reduce the psychological impact of disaster threat information. Therefore, the government is encouraged to strengthen disaster education programs through accessible approaches and active community involvement.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship betweenself-stigma with adherence to antiretroviral (ARV) medication in HIV/AIDS patients at the VCT Polyclinic of Dr. Haryoto Lumajang Regional General Hospital. The background of this study is based on the phenomenon of persistent barriers to patient adherence in undergoing ARV therapy, one of which is influenced by the stigma experienced by individuals towards themselves. The research method used was a quantitative correlational study with a sample of 84 HIV/AIDS patients still undergoing ARV therapy at the VCT Polyclinic of Dr. Haryoto Lumajang Regional General Hospital (aged over 18 years) and selected using an accidental sampling technique. The instruments used were the Berger HIV Stigma Scale (23 items; α = 0.934) and the MMAS-8 Scale (8 items; α = 0.670) which had been modified from the previous version and adapted to the context of the research subjects. Data analysis used the Spearman Rank correlation technique. The results of the analysis showed no relationship betweenself-stigma with adherence to ARV medication (r = -0.066; p ≥ 0.548). These findings indicate that most patients are still non-compliant with their ARV therapy regimen. Forgetfulness is the most dominant barrier. These findings also revealed that half of the respondents still feltself-stigma . Disclosure concern is a dominant aspect. The results of this study can be used as a consideration for providing interventions that focus on reducingself-stigma by strengthening positive self-image and increasingself efficacy PLWHA so that adherence to taking ARV medication can be maintained through an effective VCT program.

Abstract

In recent years, excessive exercise has received increasing attention due to its potential to develop into exercise addiction, a condition in which individuals lose control over their exercise behavior and begin to perceive it as a psychological necessity. This condition is not limited to professional athletes but also occurs among gym members in the general population. One psychological factor assumed to contribute to exercise addiction is body dissatisfaction, defined as negative evaluations of one’s body shape that may drive individuals to increase the intensity and frequency of exercise compulsively. This study aimed to examine the relationship between body dissatisfaction and exercise addiction among gym members. A quantitative correlational design was employed. The sample consisted of 110 active gym members recruited using quota sampling. The instruments used were the Multidimensional Body-Self Relations Questionnaire–Appearance Scales (MBSRQ-AS) to measure body dissatisfaction and the Exercise Addiction Inventory (EAI) to assess exercise addiction. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation. The results revealed a positive and significant relationship between body dissatisfaction and exercise addiction (r = 0.271; p = 0.004). The coefficient of determination (r² = 0.073) indicates that body dissatisfaction accounts for 7.3% of the variance in exercise addiction, while the remaining 92.7% is explained by other factors not examined in this study. These findings suggest that higher levels of body dissatisfaction are associated with a greater tendency toward exercise addiction. Theoretically, this study contributes to the literature in health and sport psychology by providing empirical evidence on the role of body dissatisfaction as a psychological risk factor for addictive exercise behavior among non-athlete populations. Practically, the findings may inform the development of preventive and educational programs promoting healthy self-regulation in exercise contexts.

Abstract

Life for students at Islamic boarding schools is characterized by strict rules and a busy daily schedule. However, noncompliance with regulations is still common and can hinder the educational process and character building. One factor that is thought to play a role in student compliance is adaptability, which is an individual's ability to adapt socially, emotionally, and cognitively to the demands of the boarding school environment. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there is a significant relationship between adaptability and compliance among high school students at the Nurul Islam Islamic Boarding School in Jember. The method used was quantitative correlational with two variables, namely self-adjustment as the independent variable and obedience as the dependent variable. The research population included all active students at the Madrasah Aliyah level, with a sample size of 155 people determined using simple random sampling. Data were collected using a modified self-adjustment scale and compliance scale. Pearson Product Moment correlation analysis showed a positive and significant relationship between self-adjustment and compliance (r = 0.266; p = <0.001). These results confirm that the better the students' self-adjustment, the higher their compliance with boarding school rules. These findings have practical implications for Islamic boarding schools in designing development strategies that focus on improving students' adaptability in order to create a disciplined and religious educational environment.

Abstract

Special Needs School (SLB) teachers are at high risk of work stress due to the demands of educating children with special needs and complex administrative burdens. Adaptability is needed as an individual's capacity to adjust cognition, behavior, and affection to changing situations. This study aims to empirically examine the relationship between adaptability and stress in public SLB teachers in Jember Regency. The research method used is a quantitative correlational with a total sampling technique (N = 64). Data collection used the Adaptability Scale (α = 0.844) and the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10) α = 0.761). The data analysis technique used the Pearson Product Moment correlation. The results of the analysis showed a significant negative relationship between adaptability and teacher stress (r = -0.445; p < 0.0%). This finding indicates that the higher the level of adaptability, the lower the level of stress experienced by SLB teachers. These results emphasize the importance of developing adaptive skills as a preventive strategy in managing work stress in special needs education environments.

Abstract

This research aims to map the relationship between spirituality and marital commitment through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. Using the PRISMA guidelines, data from Google Scholar, retrieved via Publish or Perish, and visualized using VOSviewer, 620 articles were identified and screened to yield 9 main studies that were analyzed thematically. The results of the review indicate that spirituality plays a significant role in strengthening marital commitment. This occurs through mechanisms such as enhancing emotional regulation, increasing couple resilience, forming relational meaning, and reinforcing moral values in facing conflict. Spirituality is proven to be a psychological resource that helps couples manage economic pressure, infertility, emotional crises, and differences in social status. The findings also show the significant role of religion-based interventions, pastoral counseling, and spiritual guidance in improving family harmony, satisfaction, and resilience. Overall, this synthesis confirms that spirituality is not a complementary variable, but a structural determinant that contributes directly to the stability of marital commitment within the perspective of family psychology.
