Abstract

This study purpose to describe students’ conceptual mastery and knowing the students' difficulties understanding on heat and temperature. This survey research was conducted on 11th grade of mathematic and natural science class in senior high school students. Data was obtained through reasoned multiple choice questions of conceptual mastery. We found that only 54.8% of students had good conceptual mastery. This shows that students' conceptual mastery is low on heat and temperature. In addition, we found three student’s difficulties, namely: (1) cannot distinguish definition of heat and temperature, (2) don’t know factors that can affect temperature changes and phase changes, and (3) unable to solve heat transfer problem. It is expected that future study can improve students' conceptual mastery through application of appropriate learnings.

Abstract

This aim of this study was to determine effectiveness of using problem posing model combined with recitation method on student’s conceptual understanding. The method of this study is quasy experiment with pretest-posttest control group design, with control and experiment groups. The data analysis technique used was independent t-test and continued with an analysis of N-gain value to determine effectiveness. The results showed a significant difference between the posttest values of the control group and the experiment group with a significance value of 0,000 (α = 0.05). The results of the analysis of N-gain values showed that problem posing model combined with recitation method is more effective for student's conceptual understanding.

Abstract

This research was aimed to compare senior high school misconception with different class level on heat and temperature. This study used a survey method with subjects of class XI and XII as many as 68 high school students in Kediri. The instrument used is in the form of two-tier items as many as 11 questions. Student responses to items are categorized into three scientific knowledge, errors, and misconceptions. The results of the study showed that grade XI students experienced a misconception of 54% and class XII students of 63%. Most students experience misconceptions in the concept of thermal equilibrium. This research needs to be followed up with various efforts to overcome misconceptions in physics learning.

Abstract

This reseach was aimed to determine the effectiveness of the Discovery Learning model with Brainstorming on students' critical thinking skills. This research is a quasi-experiment with a non-equivalent pretest-posttest control group design. Data analysis used t-test and continued with an analysis of the N-gain value. The results showed that there was a significant difference between the experiment class and the control class with a significance value of 0,001 ≤ 0,05. N-gain values in the experiment class and control class were 0.53 and 0.30, this means that the improvement of students' critical thinking skills in the experimental class is better than the control class.

Abstract

This study aims to look at the effect of problem-based learning of students' conceptual understanding in work and energy. This study used a quasi-experimental design. The sample used consisted of two classes, namely the experimental class and the control class. The sample selected using cluster random sampling technique. The data obtained through pretest and posttest, then were analyzed using three indicators of conceptual understanding consisting of translation, interpretation, and extrapolation. This study found an increase of conceptual understanding in experimental class better than control class. Although there are had increase, but the increase had not significant.
