Abstract

The productivity of cayenne pepper in Jawai District is lower than the productivity of cayenne pepper in South Jawai District, even though both have the same harvested land area. The low productivity of cayenne pepper in Jawai District is due to the high level of risk. This study aims to determine the level of production risk and income risk of cayenne pepper farming in Jawai District and to formulate alternative strategies to reduce farming risk levels. Analysis of the level of risk in agriculture using Coefficient of Variation (CV) analysis and formulation of alternative strategies using SWOT analysis with Porter's Diamond component indicators. The results showed that the risk level of production and income from cayenne pepper farming was 0.61 and 0.75, respectively, or more than 0.5, indicating a high level of risk. An alternative strategy that can be applied by farmers to reduce the level of risk is the WO (Weaknesses-Opportunities) strategy, which includes intensifying cayenne pepper farming, providing counseling to farmers regarding proper farming knowledge and management, conducting counseling related to knowledge of the use of agricultural technology, and extensification by expanding farming land cayenne pepper farming.

Abstract

Palm oil is a strategic commodity in the plantation sector in Indonesia. The government's recommendation in agricultural development, especially oil palm commodities, is to apply the principles of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) in its cultivation. This study aims to determine the level of knowledge of farmers in the application of GAP in oil palm cultivation activities. The research sample was determined purposively with a total of 30 farmers. Data was collected by means of observation, questionnaires, and interviews. Data analysis was carried out using a qualitative descriptive method. The results showed that the level of farmers' knowledge of the application of GAP in oil palm cultivation was in the moderate category with a score of 1.83. Meanwhile, farmers in oil palm cultivation activities starting from land clearing, nursery, planting, maintenance, harvesting to marketing have not fully implemented the GAP principles. This is because there is no access for farmers to receive information about the GAP principle in oil palm cultivation

Abstract

The excess supply of shallots due to the increase in harvest area in Indonesia in 2019-2020 resulted in a gap between supply and demand, resulting in price fluctuations over time. The price fluctuations that occurred plus the covid-19 pandemic in early 2020 caused low purchasing power and reduced household consumption. The study aims to determine the effect of prices and the Covid-19 pandemic on the demand and supply of shallots in Indonesia. The data used is time series data. Data analysis using multiple linear. The results showed that the demand for shallots in Indonesia increases every year because this commodity is always needed every day, but the demand for shallots is not matched by stable and evenly distributed production in each region every month. Prices and the covid-19 pandemic affect the demand for shallots in Indonesia significantly and significantly, there are also other factors, namely chili prices which have a negative effect on demand, and per capita income which has a positive effect on demand. Prices and the covid-19 pandemic partially have no significant effect on shallot supply in Indonesia. The variable that has the strongest influence on shallot supply in Indonesia is the harvest area variable.

Abstract

Rice is a commodity strategy and a basic food for nearly all Indonesian households. The purpose of this study is to describe the labor utilization and costs associated with all farming activities, as well as the income and efficiency of lowland rice farming. The study took place in the Ten Tons Syngenta area, specifically in Glanggang Village, Beji District, Pasuruan Regency, East Java. The study took place between August and September 2022. The sample was determined using a 20% random sampling technique, which in the collection of 22 samples of farmers. The research data were derived from primary sources and were gathered through direct interviews with farmers. The results indicated that labor costs is so high in land preparation and planting (53.50 percent) dominated work in lowland rice farming, followed by harvesting (17.37 percent), weeding (14.74 percent), fertilizing (8.92 percent), and spraying (5.4 percent ). Lowland rice farmers earn Rp. 5,381,567 per hectare and have an R/C ratio of 1.35. The application of advanced technology, particularly in land preparation and planting, is critical for increasing the income and efficiency of lowland rice farming in the Syngenta ten-ton area in order to support rice self-sufficiency in the run-up to Indonesia's 100th anniversary of independence in 2045.

Abstract

The SDGs emphasize the need to end hunger, improve nutrition and achieve food security. Meeting food needs occurs when everyone has physical and economic access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food. Lampung Province is a province that is a production center for rice, cassava, and corn. This shows that there is the ability of Lampung Province to provide food for its inhabitants. However, regional food availability at the macro level does not guarantee household food security at the micro level. This study uses Susenas raw data for Lampung Province in 2022. Food security status is measured based on a combination of the share of food expenditure and the level of energy consumption which adopts the Jonsson and Toole (1991) indicators to see the effect of several household variables. This study uses ordinal logit regression where the categorization of status is divided into four, namely food insecurity, food deprivation, food vulnerable, and food security. As much as 41,54 percent of households are food secure and 9,5 percent are food insecure. Based on ordinal logit regression analysis, the researchers concluded that the variables affecting household food security in Lampung Province were cigarette consumption, access to credit, social assistance, land assets, internet use, place of residence, income, number of household members, whether the household works on agriculture or not, and age head household.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the pattern of land use change and the pattern of distribution of land conversion that occurred in Muara Bangkahulu District in the period 2010-2022. This study uses a quantitative method with a spatial analysis approach that utilizes Geographic Information System technology and surveys to conduct ground checks in the field on the interpretation of land conversion results from satellite imagery data. The analysis used is nearest neighbor analysis and descriptive analysis. The results showed that there were only two patterns of land change that occurred in Muara Bangkahulu District, namely oil palm plantation areas turning into residential areas and agricultural areas turning into residential areas. The high rate of change of land use into residential areas is due to the subsidized housing program in Muara Bangkahulu District. The pattern of distribution of land conversion that occurs can be seen through the pattern of distribution of settlements in Muara Bangkahulu District which is included in the random category with a value of T = 1.064934 meaning that land conversion occurs in each village and the change tends to be permanent because it has changed its function to become built-up land or settlements.

Abstract

Even though it is known that melon farming is labor-demanding, the allocation of hired labor is often overlooked as the subject of melon farming studies. To fill this void, this study aims to analyze the pattern of farm labor allocation and its effect on the productivity of melon farming. The data used in this research is primary data collected through a survey of 60 melon farmers selected using the convenience sampling method by considering the area of farming land. Data analysis included descriptive statistical analysis and non-parametric regression, namely the generalized additive model. The research results show that: (1) labor costs account for nearly 50% of variable production costs; (2) melon farms with a land area of more than 0.5 ha tend to employ more farm laborers than farms with less than 0.5 ha. Farm workers are even employed for farming activities that fall into the category of delicate works and have a significant impact on production, such as pest and disease control, pruning shoots, and fruit selection; and (3) the use of farm laborers in delicate works farming activities reduces melon productivity.
