Abstract

The current research is crucial in order to foster inclusive Islamic education for children with Down syndrome as well as address their psychological well-being. This study aimed to investigate diverse Islamic education methods suitable for children with Down syndrome while emphasizing the importance of educators employing Islamic teaching strategies. This research employed a qualitative approach and the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method to evaluate the intersection of Islamic learning methods and Down Syndrome. The published papers discussed in this study were obtained using the Publish or Perish 8 software. The papers must be published within the five-year timeframe between 2018 and 2023 with the keywords "Islamic Learning Methods" and "Down Syndrome." The search of papers resulted in the discovery of 222 articles discussing Islamic methods, and only 16 were specific to Down Syndrome, with only four of them addressing the application of Islamic teaching methods for individuals with Down Syndrome. The findings of this study highlighted teaching strategies such as On-Task Conduct, Imitation, Discriminative Usage of Objects, and Word Recognition. The study identifies three main learning strategies for students with Down syndrome: the Talaqqi wa Musyafahah, Quran therapy, and Islamic Full Communication methods. This study concluded the necessity for further research on modified educational approaches that effectively support the learning and well-being of children with Down syndrome within the context of Islamic education.

Abstract

Early marriage is a contributing factor to low levels of health, education, and family welfare. Early marriage is a worldwide occurrence that warrants the attention of all stakeholders, including UNICEF. The objective of this study is to address the issue of early marriage in Indonesia by employing the quadruple helix approach and doing legal and economic analysis to effectively reduce the prevalence of early marriages. The author employed a type of normative juridical study that incorporated both national law and the Islamic legal method approach known as maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah. This was done by utilizing the quadruple helix and economic analysis of law (EAL) theory. Ultimately, early marriage is influenced by ineffective regulations as well as cultural, economic, and educational factors. To address this issue, it is crucial to establish a strong collaboration between academics, businesses, government, and society. Additionally, raising awareness among the public about the benefits of delaying marriage until the appropriate age can contribute to the well-being of couples, families, and society as a whole. This approach can also incentivize the community by facilitating access to education, the economy, and healthcare and addressing issues such as stunting.

Abstract

Media relations with culture can play a role in shifting the views of the Besilam Malay community. This study focuses on the impact of television mass media as a pivotal component of modern society. Technological advancements have placed society at a crossroads, presenting a choice between embracing contemporary progress or adhering to time-honored traditions. The pervasive influence of media serves as a catalyst in shaping awareness and perspectives. The tug-of-war between embracing change and preserving heritage is well exemplified in the traditional berahoi ceremony, which recently has taken up only a small part of the whole tradition. The development of the times that continue to follow renewal can influence people's attitudes and thoughts towards culture supported by technology in the media. This paper used a qualitative research model with a heuristic approach to gather information from cultural and religious community leaders around the Besilam community. This study holds significance in illuminating the ancestral traditions deeply rooted within the Besilam Malay community. It aims to shed light on the evolving nature of these traditions and their transformations over time. Additionally, it serves as a call to action, advocating for the Langkat Regency government to prioritize the preservation of these rich cultural customs. A recommendation is proposed to allocate resources from the APBD Budget Policy through the Tourism Office to sustain and promote these traditions, ensuring their continuity for future generations. Modern Globalization Theory, coined by Wallerstein, asserts that social change occurs as underdeveloped nations emulate the practices and advancements of their more advanced counterparts as a means of progress and growth.

Abstract

Uṣūl fiqh played an important role in the discussion of fiqh, but it is no longer applied for legal deduction due to the prevalent idea of taqlīd (imitation). The taqlīd hinders Islamic the scholars from referring to the Quran and sunnah directly. Abdul Hamid Hakim's efforts to revitalize ijtihād (independent reasoning) and ittibāʾ (evidence based accaptance) have brought new nuances to uṣūl fiqh. This paper aims to describe the thoughts of ijtihād and ittibāʾ in the works of Hakim and to reveal the influence of Islamic renewal. This paper is based on literature research using qualitative methods with a historical approach. This research shows that the uṣūl fiqh works of Hakim are written with an applicative approach. He arranges his works as teaching materials for beginners to advanced students. The idea of revitalizing ijtihād and encouraging ittibāʾ in Hakim’s works resonated Islamic renewal idea in the early 20th century, marked by the creed of returning to the Quran and sunnah and the opening the ijtihād door. Hakim’s works have contributed to the development of Islamic legal thought in Indonesia, which influenced subsequent efforts to reform Islamic law in the country.

Abstract

This research aims to investigate whether traditional religious authorities in the case of two largest Islamic organizations in Indonesia (Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah) still have greater authority than the new media friendly religious figures. This research employs the bai’at (edification) of Ustadz Hanan Attaki (UHA) to Nahdlatul Ulama and the admission of Ustadz Adi Hidayat (UAH) to the Muhammadiyah General Board as a case study. This research attemps to answer two questions: How do new religious authorities still need to rely on traditional religious authorities? Why are the traditional religious authorities in NU & Muhammadiyah still able to survive during the development of new media and the emergence of new religious authorities? Using the theoretical framework of Max Weber, this study explains the process of forming authority. This research finds that first, new religious authorities lack key elements of "authority." The long-established structures within traditional groups provide a level of legitimacy that is difficult for new religious authorities to replicate without integrating into these networks. Second, traditional authorities have spent decades, even centuries, building a loyal following and strong organizational infrastructure. These networks are supported by political capital, granting traditional authorities protection, and influence that new figures cannot easily access.

Abstract

This study investigates how vernacular mosque architecture in Lombok functions as a mediating system between Islamic doctrine and Sasak local culture. Focusing on the Gunung Pujut and Gumantar Mosque, the research examines how architectural elements translate religious principles into culturally grounded spatial forms and how this mediation contributes to cultural resilience amid modernization. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through architectural documentation and in-depth interviews with Tuan Guru, Tokoh Adat, and the local community. The findings demonstrate that the integration of Islam and local culture is structurally embedded through a hierarchical architectural system comprising the head, body, and foundation, which reflects both Islamic spiritual stages and Sasak cosmology. Key elements such as the saka guru pillars operate as material mediators that embody Islamic ethics of humility, moderation, and communal balance. Furthermore, vernacular mosque architecture is shown to sustain Sasak Muslim identity by enabling adaptive continuity amid architectural homogenizations. This study contributes to Islamic architectural discourse by extending Critical Regionalism through an ethno-Islamic perspective that recognizes vernacular forms, materials, and construction logic as legitimate expressions of Islamic values and cultural resilience.

Abstract

The paper looks at the increasing nature of cybercrime activities, particularly yahoo-yahoo in Nigeria. The paper adopted descriptive and evaluative methods of research to gather and analyze relevant data. The paper identifies some cases of this crime in society to validate its position. The findings show that the influence of peer groups, parental and societal support, unemployment, and many others account for the growing nature of crime in society. While the paper posits that the criminal gain from Yahoo activities is temporal, it draws attention to the concept of life after death and accountability as enumerated in Qur’an chapter 102 as a deterrence to the people’s inordinate quest for wealth at all costs. The paper recommends a more robust orientation of people by both religious leaders and appropriate government agencies on the need to have the human mind and no devilish nature. The government and the well-to-do people in society are also encouraged to join hands to address the problem of unemployment.
