Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe the effect of the mind map-assisted cooperative script learning model on student learning outcomes on biology subject. Learning was carried out online during the COVID-19 pandemic. The research was conducted in the academic year 2020/2021 in odd semesters. This study used a quasi-experimental method with a pretest posttest control group design. This study used 1 control class and 1 experimental class. The number of students were 19 and 21 in the experimental and control class, respectively. To collect the data, a 20-question learning outcome test was used. The research activities were carried out 4 times with 2 tests and 2 learning activities. Research data were analyzed using t-test and Mann Whitney test. The mean difference of the pretest results showed that sig 0.43> 0.05, this indicated that there was no difference in the two groups. The results of the hypothesis test of the posttest showed that Asymp. Sig 0.04 <0.05, with an average posttest score of the experimental class was 11.52 and an average score of the control class learning outcomes was 9.2. The results of this study revealed that the cooperative script learning model assisted with mind maps has a positive effect on student learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study describes the effectiveness of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model with Rainbow card media in learning to write descriptive text for students in 7th graders of SMP Negeri Model Terpadu Madani Palu. This research was a descriptive study. Data in the form of values obtained from students' scores in writing descriptive text were processed and analyzed using the described numbers. The sample was chosen by simple random sampling and the Cerdas Istimewa class with 23 students was picked. Data were collected from descriptive text and the score of a test. The scoring of the written results was in accordance with the assessment criteria for writing descriptions, which were title, identification, description, cover and language use. The results of the average score of students by applying the PBL learning model through the Rainbow Card media in learning to write descriptive texts was 87.8 which were categorized as complete in the Minimum Completeness Criteria (KKM) that has been determined by the school. The percentage value of writing descriptive text achieved was 99.7%. So it was proven that the application of the PBL learning model through the Rainbow Card media in learning to write descriptive text was considered effective.

Abstract

Problem-based Learning (PBL) is a learning method that can change the behavior of students who passively receive information to actively seek information. However, the implementation of PBL is not in accordance to its character, causing boring learning conditions, as happened in Grade VII students of SMP Negeri 4 Palu in science subject. The purpose of this research was to improve students' creative thinking and learning motivation through the implementation of PBL in science subject in Grade VII of SMP Negeri 4 Palu. This research used a quasi-experimental method with quantitative and qualitative approaches. The research design was a pretest-posttest control group design. The sample of two classes with a total of 55 students, namely one experimental class (26 students) and one control class (29 students). Quantitative data for creative thinking variable were obtained by distributing tests and qualitative data and for learning motivation variable were obtained through questionnaires. Quantitative data were analyzed using non-parametric statistics (Mann-Whitney test) and qualitative data using the Percentage Mean Value formula. The quantitative research results show Asimp. Sig. (2-tailed)= 0.382 (>0.05). This means that H1 is rejected and H0 is accepted, which means there is no differences in the way students think creatively in the control class and the experimental class in science learning. The results of qualitative research show that students' learning motivation in the control class and the experimental class are both included in the very good criteria with the percentage in the range of 90.3% - 90.8%.

Abstract

In using language, both spoken and written, an underlying theory is needed. The scope of language errors includes errors in phonology, morphology, the field of syntax, and the field of EYD. However, the purpose of this study only focused on the field of morphology in describing misuse of use: prepositions, affixes, and dotted words in narrative essays of class IXA students at MTs Negeri Palu Barat. This research was a qualitative research which aims to understand the phenomenon of what the research subjects experience holistically and by means of descriptions in the form of words and language, in a special natural context and by utilizing various scientific methods. Data collection techniques used in this study were observation, interviews, and documentation of the implementation of activities. The subjects of this study were 29 students of class XI A MTs N 2 Palu. The results of the research on the analysis of morphological errors in the expository narrative essay of MTs Negeri 2 Palu students were: (1) the form of misuse of prepositions which are sequenced from the words that follow them, such as the word dipalu, the use of the prepositions should be separated from the words that follow as in the word di Palu; (2) the form of the misuse of the affixation which is separated from the word that follows it as in the word di pilih, the use of the affixation should be linked to the word that follows it like the word dipilih; and (3) the form of misuse of the word berklitik which is separated from the word that follows it, as in the word ku menangkan, the use of the word that follows it should rely on the word that follows it as in the word kumenangkan.

Abstract

Reading in the EFL context in Indonesia can be generally included in the teaching of reading comprehension. Here, teaching reading aims to improve the skill of the students in comprehending the meaning of the written text. Therefore, knowledge of reading strategies is needed to help students encountering different text types, so that they become more aware of how they learn most effectively. This experimental study was conducted with a purpose to investigate the effectiveness of SBI on reading comprehension achievement in English as a foreign language. The subjects of the study were chosen from Grade X of SMK Islam Gupi Dongko. A set of reading strategies that were delivered in the SBI method trained the students. This study answered these two following research problems: 1) Do students who are taught using Strategy-Based Instruction achieve better in literal reading comprehension than those who are taught using the conventional strategy?, 2) Do students who are taught using Strategy-Based Instruction achieve better in inferential reading comprehension than those who are taught using the conventional strategy?
