Abstract

The paper concerns a youth environmental movement in Bandung to save the urban forest Babakan Silawangi. It is proposed that space for protest plays a significant role in social movements such as environmentalism. Public assembly allows activists to voice their political objections and make their discontent known to the citizenry. Yet political space is different to physical place. According to Henri Lefebvre, political space is an assemblage of co-creation by individuals who occupy the space and demonstrate their subjective meanings for it in expression and lived experience. Since the subjective/collective meanings perceived and experienced by the activists are powerfully enacted, the space itself may shape their identity and this study explores those meanings, which are relational, contextual, and spatial.

Abstract

Originally lengger is performed in ceremonies and rituals in rural ceremonies associated with fertility. Currently the performance of lengger has more entertainment and commercial functions. This makes the dancers vulnerable to exploitation lengger both economically and sexually. The objectiveof this study is to explore the form of lengger show, forms of exploitation experienced by dancers lengger, and the responses of the lengger dancer towards exploitation. Research methods used are qualitative approach, with interpretive data analysis. Research was done in the village Selanegara, Sumpiuh, Banyumas. The results show that there were some elements associated with this form lengger performances, namely: players, body movement, music, makeup and fashion, as well as staging. The negative image normally rise from lengger dancer’s erotic movements, which are responded by various form,s of abuse, such as touched, poked, hugged and kissed by pengibing. Economic exploitation occurs due to the economic demands so that the dancers exploit her body to get money. Dances of Lengger are very prone to sexual and economic ebuse. This phenomenon should encourage the public and the government to rethink how to to protect the dancers from exploitation.

Abstract

The belief of Balinese people towards leak still survive. Leak is a magic based on durgaism that can transform a person from human to another form, such as apes, pigs, etc. People tend to regard leak as evil. In general, the evilness is constructed in gender stereotypes, so it is identified that leak are always women. This idea is a power game based on the ideology of patriarchy that provides legitimacy for men to dominate women with a plea for social harmony. As a result, women are marginalized in the Balinese society. Women should be aware of so it would provide encouragement for them to make emancipatory changes dialogically.

Abstract

Communities living surrounding forest  have  used state forest for grazing area  in East Nusa Tenggara Timur Province, Indonesia for a long time.  However, Indonesia government have not given them a permit for managing state forest. Government will  involve communities in state forest management   to generate people income but government ,as a principal, was worried that the communities, as agent,  will act in the way contrary to the interest of government. We used  a principal agent theory to analyze principal agent problems which will occur if  communities manage  state forest for  silvopasture purpose. The research showed that there are some principal agent problems in silvopasture contract if government give communities a permit for silvopasture purpose, i.e.  communities, as agent, are  not willing  to plant trees and keep forest. Government must control communities to prevent some principal-agent problems in silvopasture contract.

Abstract

Students often regard Sociology as a boring subject. The subject presents many sociological theories and concepts students to memorize. Boring method of teaching further makes the course less attractive to students. Innovative strategy have been used, but in practice the method is not effective and teachers return to conventional models. This article is written based on the author’s experience in teaching Sociology among high school students. Based on my experience, strategies that can be used to create innovative learning include asking critical questions, exploring articles and pictures / photos, analyzing movies, doing simple research, and keeping a diary. Through this strategy, constructivist learning is much easier to run. This method is better able to provide the opportunity for students to develop independent learning and make students more intensively to understand social reality as a part of his life as well as the learning materials of sociology.
