Abstract

Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) has been accepted as one of the teaching methods by numerous language teachers due to its major focus on developing learners’ communicative competence. This paper aims to describe communicative language teaching, misinterpretations about its practice and the factors leading to teachers’ misconceptions. It shows four misinterpreted beliefs of the implementation of communicative language teaching: communicative skills, teacher’s role in communicative activities, fluency and accuracy as the main goals and teaching techniques. It then presents three reasons that might lead to teachers’ misinterpretations concerning the practice of CLT. Teachers do not have enough training and  adequate resources.

Abstract

                                                Abstrak Sering kali pengajaran bahasa Inggris kurang mampu memenuhi tujuannya. Bahkan setelah bertahun-tahun belajar bahasa Inggris, peserta didik tidak mendapatkan kepercayaan diri untuk menggunakan bahasa di dalam dan luar kelas. Komunikasi yang nyata melibatkan gagasan, emosi, perasaan, kesesuaian dan kemampuan beradaptasi. Kelas bahasa Inggris yang konvensional hampir tidak memberikan kesempatan terhadap peserta didik untuk menggunakan bahasa dengan cara ini dan mengembangkan kefasihan di dalamnya. Dengan demikian, sayangnya, tujuan utama dari program pengajaran bahasa yaitu mengembangkan keterampilan dalam komunikasi, menjadi terabaikan. Sebuah alternatif yang menarik adalah mengajarkan bahasa melalui drama karena drama memberikan pengetahuan praktis tentang kekuatan bahasa yang ekspresif dan komunikatif. Dengan kata lain, hal tersebut mengintegrasikan aspek verbal dan non-verbal dalam komunikasi, sehingga menyatukan pikiran dan tubuh, dan memulihkan keseimbangan antara aspek fisik dan intelektual dalam pembelajaran. Selain itu,  hal tersebut menumbuhkan kesadaran diri (dan kesadaran akan orang lain), harga diri dan kepercayaan diri, dan melalui hal ini, motivasipun tumbuh. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk melihat teknik drama dan beberapa kegiatannya yang dapat memotivasi siswa untuk berbicara.   Kata-kata kunci: partisipasi kelas, kegiatan berbicara, teknik drama Abstract Many a times the teaching of English language falls short of fulfilling its goals. Even after years of English teaching, the learners do not gain the confidence of using the language in and outside the class. Real communication involves ideas, emotions, feelings, appropriateness and adaptability. The conventional English class hardly gives the learners an opportunity to use language in this manner and develop fluency in it. Thus, the main purpose of the language teaching course, i.e., developing skills in communication, is unfortunately, neglected. An attractive alternative is teaching language through drama because drama provides practical knowledge of the expressive and communicative powers of a language. In other word, it integrates verbal and non-verbal aspects of communication, thus bringing together both mind and body, and restoring the balance between physical and intellectual aspects of learning. Furthermore, it fosters self-awareness (and awareness of others), self-esteem and confidence; and through this, motivation is developed. Abstract

The purpose of the study generally is to facilitate high school students preparation for National Test and State/private Entrance Test and specifically the purposes are 1)to increase the activity of  English learning videos through website, 2) to increase the learning activity through internet. The stages of this research consists of 5 stages such as; a) capturing English learning videos, b) creating website, c) uploading the videos to the website, d) launching the website to the third year of Bontang State Vocational School 3, and e) evaluating the website content. The results show that video learning designs is the most chosen feature(89%)  than other features on the website.   Furthermore, the questionaires reaveal that  100%  give positive responses to the website given.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the notion that language is an important aspect in examining social life and culture. The use of language is realized through speech acts. However, the nature of the speech acts from the stand point of internal culture has many interpretations. According to Austin (1962), an etnopragmatic study is a study of speech acts that reveals an association between delivery of speech of the Kiai (the scholar) and the cultural values of the society. Therefore, this study seeks to capture the type of speech acts contained in the speech of Syarah (explanation) of Al-Hikam and Interpretation of the Koran recitation in a religious lecture for mothers in the Nurul Huda Mosque in Kampung Cireungit, Garut, and the relationship between the delivery of the speech and the cultural values of the society.

Abstract

Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memperoleh data perihal (1) efektivitas penggunaan model pembelajaran Komunikasi Bisnis Frankofon dalam meningkatkan kemampuan mahasiswa terhadap bahasa Perancis komunikasi profesional, (2) kontribusi model tersebut dalam pembelajaran bahasa Perancis bisnis, (3) kelebihan dan kekurangan model komunikasi bisnis frankofon dalam pembelajaran Français de la communication professionnelle. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa model yang diteliti terbukti efektif dalam meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran Français de la communication professionnelle (PR308) juga telah membantu mahasiswa terkait pemahaman konsep-konsep berupa bahasa Perancis bidang profesi dan bisnis yang kelak akan dibutuhkan di dunia kerja yang nyata.Kata-kata kunci: Model komunikasi bisnis frankofon, bahasa Perancis untuk tujuan khusus  AbstractThe aims of this research are to find out (1) the effectiveness of the use of French for business communication model and to develop students skills in French for special purposes (2) the contribution of the model analysed in teaching French for special purposes, namely, Français de la communication professionnelle (3) the advantages and the disadvantages of the model analysed in the teaching of Français de la communication professionnelle. The data analyzed demonstrates that the model analysed was effective and improved the quality of leaning French for special purposes, and the model helped the students to understand the concepts of French for professionals and business. Abstract

Abstrak Lesson study merupakan alternatif yang dapat dilakukan oleh guru bersama teman sejawatnya dalam rangka membudayakan belajar sepanjang hayat untuk terus meningkatkan kompetensi pedagogiknya secara mandiri yang berdampak langsung bagi perbaikan dan peningkatan mutu pembelajaran di dalam kelas. Oleh karena itu, implementasi lesson study sebagai model pembinaan dan peningkatan kompetensi pedagogik guru bahasa Indonesia memerlukan dukungan dari pihak-pihak terkait terutama kepala sekolah dan dinas pendidikan. Tanpa dukungan itu, maka lesson study hanyalah “mimpi” bagi guru-guru yang memiliki motivasi untuk meningkatkan kemampuannya. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui pengaruh lesson study pada kompetensi pedagogik guru bahasa Indonesia SMP kabupaten Cirebon. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini lesson study berdampak positif terhadap kompetensi pedagogik guru.Kata-kata kunci: lesson study, kompetensi pedagogik, peningkatan    mutu pembelajaran Abstract Lesson Study is an alternative that teachers can take in implanting the culture of lifelong learning and improving their pedagogical competency independently. In addition, it has direct impact on the improvement and development of instructional quality in classrooms.  Therefore, the implementation of Lesson Study as a model for improving the competency of Indonesian language teachers needs to gain support from all stakeholders, especially Principal and Office of Education in district level.  Without the support, Lesson Study is just a “dream” for teachers who are highly motivated to improve their competencies. Abstract

Curriculum 2013 has been implemented by the government at every level of school though gradually. This implementation requires educational practitioners particularly teachers to master a variety of learning support tools. This paper aims to examine and review the learning tools needed by a particular device for Curriculum 2013 assessment. Assessment as mandated by Curriculum 2013 is a competency-based assessment to measure attitudes, skills, and knowledge based on the process and learning outcomes. Incorporating an assessment of the process and learning outcomes, portfolio is the main instrument in the assessment. The portfolio that is commonly used nowadays has not addressed students’ characteristics and their learning styles. Abstract

The scientific approach (observing, questioning, associating, experimenting and networking) employed in the 2013 curriculum requires students to not only master, experiment and create concepts but also to communicate results of analysis, findings or products to other students/parties. Indonesian teaching, therefore, is oriented not only for mastery of grammatical competence but also sociolinguistic, discourse ad strategic competences. To acquire such competences, an appropriate teaching strategy is called for. One such strategy is the so-called the language learning strategy, which refers to specific actions carried out by students to make learning easier, faster, more enjoyable, more independent, more effective and more directed towards new situations. This strategy includes memory, cognitive, compensation, metacognitive, affective and social strategies.

Abstract

AbstractThis research aims to investigate the types of politeness strategies that are performed by Gordon Ramsay in judging the Masterchef US and Masterchef Junior US contestants’ dishes and to reveal whether Gordon Ramsay performs any different politeness strategies between the Master chef and Masterchef Junior contestants. The data spring from Gordon Ramsay utterances, taken from the elimination test of two episodes of Masterchef season 4 (episode 9 and 12) and the elimination test of two episodes of Masterchef Junior US season 1 (episode 2 and 6). The framework of Brown Levinson’s (1987) politeness strategies is adopted. Findings reveal that Gordon Ramsay performed bald on-record strategy, positive politeness, and off record strategy. Data penelitian ini berupa tuturan Gordon Ramsay yang diambil dari tes eliminasi dalam dua episode Masterchef US musim ke-4 (episode 9 dan 12), dan dua episode Masterchef Junior US musim pertama (episode 2 dan 6). Teori yang digunakan adalah teori strategi kesopanan milik Brown dan Levinson (1987). Hasil temuan menunjukkan bahwa Gordon Ramsay melakukan strategi kesopanan bald-on record, strategi kesopanan positif, danstrategi kesopanan off record. Abstract

AbstrakPenelitian ini merupakan kajian untuk merancang dan mengembangkan model pembelajaran pelafalan bahasa Perancis, yaitu model artikulatoris pengembangan (MAP) berbasis teknologi multimedia CD-ROM Interaktif. Kajian ini dilakukan untuk melakukan penyempurnaan dan inovasi berupa pengintegrasian teknologi multimedia dan MAP dalam pembelajaran pelafalan bahasa Perancis. Penelitian ini mengkaji (1) perancangan dan pengembangan model pembelajaran Artikulatoris Pengembangan yang berbasis multimedia CD-ROM dalam pembelajaran pelafalan bahasa Perancis; (2) pemerolehan data empirik mengenai efektivitas penerapan model tersebut dalam pembelajaran pelafalan bahasa Perancis, (3) kendala yang dihadapi oleh para pembelajar selama proses pembelajaran. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah Research Development. Adapun langkah-langkah yang peneliti tempuh dalam melaksanakan penelitian ini terdiri dari tiga tahap, yaitu (1) Studi Pendahuluan, (2) Perencanaan dan Pengembangan Model, dan (3) Validasi Model. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa MAP berbasis multimedia CD-ROM terbukti efektif dalam meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran pelafalan bahasa Perancis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pula terdapat 2 (dua) jenis  kesalahan pelafalan mahasiswa, yaitu secara fonologis dan secara artikulatoris. Kedua kesalahan tersebut diakibatkan oleh kesulitan mahasiswa dalam melafalkan [µ], [ø], [õ] [ã],[e],[ò],[v], dan [z]. Kesulitan secara fonologis dipengaruhi oleh penguasaan bahasa sebelumnya, sementara kesalahan secara artikulatoris mahasiswa tidak memfungsikan alat ucap secara tepat dan optimal.Kata-kata kunci:  Model pembelajaran pelafalan, bahasa Perancis, MAP Abstract This research is aimed to design and develop a teaching model of French pronunciation, namely the model of interactiveCD-ROMmultimedia-based articulatory development. The study was undertaken to make improvements and innovations, such as the integration of multimedia technology and the articulatory model in teaching French pronunciation. This study presents data concerning (1) the design and development of the model; (2) the empirical data on the effectiveness of the application of the model in teaching French pronunciation, (3) the constraints faced by the learner during the learning process. The method used was Research Development, which consisted of three phases, namely: (1) preliminary study, (2) planning and development of the model and (3) validation of the model. Results show that the model in question proved to be effective in improving the quality of learning French pronunciation. In addition, results show there were two types of student pronunciation errors, phonological and articulatory. Both are caused by the difficulty in pronouncing [µ], [ø], [õ] [ã],[e],[ò],[v], and [z]. Phonological difficulties are influenced by first language interference, while articulatory difficulties are caused by students not using their articulatory tracts properly and optimally.  Keywords: Pronunciation teaching model, French, articulatory model of development
