KALAM (ISSN 0853-9510; E-ISSN: 2540-7759) is a journal published by the Ushuluddin Faculty, Raden Intan State Islamic University of Lampung, INDONESIA. KALAM published twice a year. KALAM focused on the Islamic studies, especially the basic sciences of Islam, including the study of the Qur’an, Hadith, Islamic Philosophy, Theology, and Mysticism. It is intended to communicate original research and current issues on the subject. This journal warmly welcomes contributions from scholars of related disciplines. Every article submitted and will be published by Kalam will review by two peer review through a double-blind review process. KALAM has been accredited by The Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education, the Republic of Indonesia as an academic journal (SK Dirjen PRP Kemenristekdikti No. 1/E/KPT/2015).

Abstract

This article describes the tradition practiced by the followers of Qadiriyah wa Naqsabandiyah in Pekanbaru, Riau. By employing a qualitative approach, this article finds that that the tradition of the Tarekat Qadiriyah wa Naqsabandiyah in Pekanbaru, Riau emerged from the tradition (custom) performed at Pondok Pesantren Nurul Huda al-Islami. Through the pesantren, the tarekat tradition is spread gradually in the practice of education and socialization. From the tradition of pesantren education, this tarekat philosophy is then socialized to the surrounding community's environmental traditions. Philosophically, this study also concluded that tarekat is a doctrine that is close to Islamic education. Pesantren as the center of tarekat development becomes 'icon' development of Islamic education based on Sufi character. In the contemporary context, the values of Sufi education are increasingly crucial, especially in responding to the patterns and lifestyles of consumptive ones arising from modernization, capitalism, and globalization

Abstract

The local religion is one of the themes that is still important for the study. One of the local religions in West Java is Agama Djawa Sunda (Religion of Java Sunda). As a religious community in Indonesia, Agama Djawa Sunda (ADS) community is minority group category, beside they faced the prohibition from the state; they also received the discriminative acts from the majority groups. The question is how the strategy of ADS community to maintain their beliefs existence after the state prohibition. The research is qualitative approach using descriptive method. The data collection techniques are using field in-depth interview, observation and literary study related to the topic. The result of research concluded that ADS community has succeeded to maintain their beliefs existence from any threats and challenges of the majority group. There are three strategies to maintain: first, they have obeyed the state prohibition and converted under the subordination of formal religion, but they voiced for negotiating infinitely (‘voice’); second, they have reorganized repeatedly based on the ‘secure’ situation and the context of power played; third, they have reconstructed their early identity to a new identity, in early as the identity of beliefs being to the identity of custom.

Abstract

Artikel ini memfokuskan pada masalah proses pewacanaan Al-Qur’an di Jawa Barat. Sebuah isu penting terkait upaya pemerintah daerah dalam meraih dukungan umat Islam melalui kuasa pengetahuan dan hegemoni tradisi kitab suci. Kuasa disusun, dimapankan dan diwujudkan lewat pengetahuan dan wacana Al-Qur’an yang diregulasikan dan diresmikan. Melalui analisis hegemoni dan struktur diskursif, studi ini menunjukkan bahwa pemerintah daerah sangat berkepentingan mengendalikan dan mendomestikasi kepentingan umat Islam dari kekuatan politik ke dalam ruang budaya. Pemerintah daerah selalu terlibat dalam proses domestifikasi tersebut, seperti tampak dalam penguatan tradisi literasi hingga memfasilitasi festivalisasi Al-Qur’an melalui perlombaan dan pembentukan kelembagaan. Penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa program pewacanaan Al-Qur’an tersebut merupakan bagian dari politisasi keagamaan untuk menandai Islam dan kaum Muslim yang mendukung rezim pemerintah daerah yang berkuasa.

Abstract

As an independent mysticism community which has an independent system belief and form of praying, etc., Paguyuban Ngesti Tunggal (Pangestu) does not force the members to come out of the religion they embraced. Pangestu explicitly declares as a community of mysticism that offering an oasis of spirituality, which is not given by a great religion, such as Islam, Christianity, Catholicism, etc. Thus, the Pangestu members have a dualistic belief at the same time: believing in their religion and believing in Pangestu. This paradox would be interesting to be a problem of research. In this case, I would like to examine Pangestu with the point of Durkheim theory that is the 'basic element' in rural religion. The point of view of the writer would be: system belief, practice relative and sacred thing. In the end, the conclusions of this study are: 1. The system belief of Pangestu including to: the concept of divinity in the form of Tripurusa; The ritual of worship is nyawiji (emanation) process between man and God; Rules of procedure, including to the orders in the form of Hastasila and prohibited in the form of Paliwara. 2. The practice relatife of Pangestu including to Bawa Raos that it to convey the core of Pangestu teaching and ceremonies held at every August 16th to commemorate the death of the holy man Pak Dhe Narto. 3. The Sacred thing of Pangestu which including to the grave, the house of Pak Dhe Narto which made as museum, the inscription, the flag, akik (the agate stone) that being spread over around the grave, etc. which it would be functioned as a reminder to the teaching of Guru Sejati.

Abstract

The result of Sufi’s interaction and the Holy Qur-an passes out with a distinctive style of Sufi’s Tafsir with its Irfan epistemology. Although the validity of the Sufi interpretations are still disputed by Scholars, it has in fact a thorough epistemological structure. As a result of the interpretations of the Qur-an with a peculiar epistemology, the Sufi interpretations also have the distinctive characteristics and paradigms as well.Amongst the characteristics of Sufi’stafsir is the use of Ta'wil method, interpreting the Qur'an based on the essence of Khafiyah within the process of Riyadah and being performed by the Sufism.The Result of Sufi’s Interpretation of the Holy Qur-an is divided into two categories.Firstly; Free Interpretation, meaning the result of the Sufi’s interpretation spread sporadically in numerous kinds of ingenuity and not codified in one book of interpretation.Secondly; the codified Interpretation, is the result of a codified Sufi’s interpretation and even written in an entire book of tafseer.Concurrently, the paradigm built by the Sufi’s tafsir is the existence of the meaning of zahir and batin in the verses of the holy Qur-an. everyone has a level of understanding in accordance with the habitation which he is located.Thus, The Sufi do not recognize the existence of the absolutism in Interpretations.

Abstract

The idea of gender equality, that dominates contemporary men-women relation discourse, makes a number of Muslim thinkers trying to reinterpretation some of the religious doctrines that are considered as biased. At this point the scripture became the main target of the review, because of its position as a major source of religious doctrines. This effort has been done by Nasaruddin Umar through the book "Argument Kesetaraan Gender Perspektif al-Qur'an". By using the hermeneutics and semantics methods, his study focused on the historical study of Arab society and the meaning of vocabulary in the Qur'an that are directly related to gender issues. Nasaruddin saw the primary mission of the Qur’an is actually a liberating womens from the Arab patriarchist and similarity to the relations between men and women. But, the structure of the language and culture of Arab societies have been "trapped" word of God. Its makes a misunderstood that Islam helped to perpetuate the culture. This paper attempts to prove the strong influence of feminism paradigm in the Nasaruddin’s thought, and that so impressed coercion meaning of vocabulary and verses of the Qur’an adapted to the paradigm. The imposition of meaning occurs on the distinction of the meaning of the word al-Rijal / rajul and al-dzakar. The first emphasis on the quality and culture, the second emphasis on the biological aspects. But unfortunately, Nasaruddin was inconsistent using the sense that it provides itself. In addition, this paper provides a critical assessment of his socio-historical approach to build gender equality argument. Here the author found the reckless of Nasaruddin in seeing the socio-historical context of Arab society before and during the revelation of al-Qur'an. This makes his analysis tend to amplify and redirect the reason feminism espoused.

Abstract

This article examines the meaning of tradition in Syaikh Abdul Qadir Jailani’s Manaqiban recitation in Kunir village, Wonodadi, Blitar.  This article is written based on the research using qualitative method and phenomenology approach. Data collected from observation, interviews, and document reviews are analysed using Karl Manheim’s theory of knowledge. This article demonstrates that, first, manaqiban tradition understood by the Kunir villagers as form of Islamic teaching guided by the Qur’an and the hadith and a medium for acquiring blessing from the Saint. Second, for the Kunir villagers, the manaqiban tradition has three meanings, i.e. objective meaning referring to a form of religious observance; expressive meaning referring to the motives jama’ah has in manaqiban participation; documentary meaning referring to the meaning of manaqiban as a means to preserve Islamic teaching and accommodate local culture in order to create religious and social life of society.

Abstract

Discourse about the existence of God, in the realm of philosophy, included in the circle category metaphysics or also called the first philosophy. In the circle of non-Muslim philosophers, the discourse of the existence of God is elaborated by Thomas Aquinas by presenting five arguments, called cosmological propositions. As for the classical Muslim, scholar Ibn Sina appears to describe the existence of God through the argument of al-jawas or contingency which divides the form into three categories: the necessary existence (wajib al-wujud), the possible form (Mumkin al-wujud) and the impossible being (mumtani ' al-wujud). In the modern context of the twentieth century, Said Nursi elaborated philosophy of the divinity more broadly using cosmological, ontological, teleological, and intuitive arguments. Said Nursi describes all these arguments philosophically by using various illustrations. This article will discuss the philosophy of God in the perspective of Bediuzzaman Said Nursi.

Abstract

Di tengah munculnya konflik dan dibalik fenomena kompleksitas serta kekacauan yang terjadi pada masyarakat saat ini, apalagi daerah tersebut merupakan daerah yang multi agama dan etnis seperti di Lampung.  Diperlukan kontribusi berbagai macam cara untuk dijadikan acuan bagi individu dan kelompok masyarakat dalam berinteraksi diantara mereka guna mewujudkan tatanan yang berkualitas. Salah satu cara yang potensial bagi persoalan tersebut adalah kearifan lokal. Kearifan lokal masyarakat Lampung yang diketengahkan disini yaitu Piil Pesenggiri dan Muakhi yang keduanya secara ideal memiliki nilai dan spirit universal sehingga bisa dijadikan rujukan bagi masyarakat Lampung.   Kearifan lokal dimaksud seharusnya teraktualisasi bukan hanya bagi masyarakat yang beretnis Lampung, akan tetapi juga bagi masyarakat pendatang (datang dari daerah lain/suku lain) agar supaya dapat saling menghargai, menghormati dan memahami adanya perbedaan tradisi.  Hal ini diperlukan dalam rangka mengantisipasi kesalahpahaman yang tidak jarang berujung pada konflik hingga pada akhirnya dapat merugikan masyarakat itu sendiri.

Abstract

This paper analyzed the human concept according to Marxism in the view of Muslim thinkers. This paper was made because of the reading of material-based Marxist concepts and out from the transcendent elements, including in view of human beings. For this reason Marxism is very necessary to be seen from the perspective of human concepts according to Muslim thinkers who are represented by groups of Muslim philosophers and groups of mufassir. The results of this result showed that the main different and criticism of Marxism is his thinking that humanity is the result of his own creation based on materials. This refers to the idea of man-centered, autonomous, physical-biological man, without sou. Human life depends on maerials,it does not depend on things which are supernatural like God so that man must be united with nature. Marx's view of man is very different from the concept of man according to Muslim thinkers. According to them, man was created by his Lord and deeply connected with God. Besides they have physical elements, humans also have elements of the soul or nafs which very dependent on God. Humans made the Khalifah to control nature as a medium of worship to God.
