Abstract

Listening skill is one of important skills in learning English. Therefore, it is considered as difficult skill for the students. Abstract

The study aims to improve the students’ vocabulary at MTs Muhammad Daud of Pesawaran, Lampung, using Guessing Meaning from Context strategy. The study employs a classroom action research (CAR) method conducted in three cycles, coupled with a pretest and a posttest. Abstract

The study described how video projects were used to enhance the speaking performance of EFL college students in IAIN Kediri, Indonesia. The researcher found that students faced technical and personal problems appeared in the speaking class. A classroom action research was applied to the study to solve the problems. Then, the data was analyzed descriptively. The result of the study identified that students emerged confidence, fluency, good collaboration and excitement in the speaking class. The study resulted that obstacles of speaking English can be solved alternatively through the used of song videos as the project by practicing the aspects of the language in song lyrics and producing videos which then were spread out through YouTube website in order to appreciate their work and creativity as well as to share it as useful sources of teaching media and also entertainment.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to investigate whether is there any significant differences of the achievements in writing descriptive text of students which one is better teaching by using Scaffolding Technique and Write Pair Square (WPS) Technique. This research was Statistic Group Comparison that used Simple Random Sampling. There were two groups that were given different treatment. The first group was the experimental class 1 as VIII C that was taught by using Scaffolding Technique, and the second group was the experimental class 2 as VIII B that was taught by using Write Pair Square (WPS) Technique. The result of data analysis showed that the result of T-test is 3.628 and the result of T-critical is 2.056, because the T-observed > T-critical. It means that there was a significant different achievement between the students those which one was better after teaching by using WPS and those which one was better after teaching by using Scaffolding toward students’ descriptive text writing ability

Abstract

Teaching writing in the era of industrial revolution 4.0 is very challenging and interesting. This era encourages both lecturer and the student utilizing informatics technology in teaching and learning process. Since, the process of teaching writing needs more time, the classroom activities do not accomodate the whole processes such as, planning, drafting and revising. Therefore, it needs solution to sustain the teaching and learning process not only in the classroom but also outside the classroom. Blending Google Classroom and classroom activities is one of solutions to lead sustainable teaching and learning process, especially in writing class. Thus, this research aims at describing the implementation of that blended learning in teaching and learning writing. It is descriptive qualitative research that capturing the lecturer and students of English department UIN RIL Lampung in implementing blended learning. Finally, this research found that blending Google Classroom and classroom activities could make the process of teaching writing carried out completely, continuously  and well-controlled.

Abstract

This research focused on teaching and learning narrative text writing through story mapping. The objectives of this research were to know and describe the process of teaching and learning narrative writing using story mapping and the teacher and students problems in teaching and learning narrative writing through story mapping. In this research, the writer used descriptive qualitative research method. In collecting the data, the kinds of instruments used by the writers were observation, interview, and questionnaire. In data analysis, the writers used data reduction, data display, and conclusion or verification. The writers found that the teacher’s problems in teaching writing through story mapping were the teacher had difficulties to introduce story mapping, giving instruction to create and complete story mapping, many students in the classroo and less time to teach writing. The problems faced by students in learning writing using story mapping were that the students confused and difficult to develop their ideas because they did not have many vocabularies. Furthermore, the students had problems in capitalization, punctuation, grammatical error, and organization. They also needed too much time to finish their writing

Abstract

Transferring meaning embedded by English idiom is not an easy way to do. The meaning contained by English Idiom cannot be comprehended by merely knowing the meaning from each word arranging the idiom. Dealing with English idiom in translation is quite hard because the translator has to transfer the meaning of English idiom into Bahasa Indonesia rightly. On the other hand, it is quite difficult to find the equivalence term in Bahasa Indonesia reflecting the same meaning as it is reflected in the source text. To manage this problem, the translation strategies need to be applied. This research focuses on analyzing the translation strategies used by the translator in transferring the meaning of English idioms into Bahasa Indonesia in the subtitle of  Pitch Perfect 3 Movie. The research method is descriptive qualitative method.. Baker’s translation strategies is used as guideline in classifying the translation strategies used. After finding the type of translation strategies employed, further identifying whether the meaning of English idiom is transferred rightly in Bahasa Indonesia. According to the finding, translation by using idiom in similar meaning and disimilar form was not used by the translator to translate the idioms. The frequency of  translation by using idiom in similar meaning but disimilar form strategy is 4 idioms. 46 idioms were translated by using paraphrased strategy. It is only 1 idiom was translated by using omission strategy. that the meaning of 36 idioms are transferred accurately. The meaning of four idioms were transferred Less-accurately. The meaning of 11 idioms were classified as inaccurate translation

Abstract

This thesis was about the students’ ability in using prefix and suffix. The purpose of this research was to know how far is the students’ abilities in using prefix and suffix. This research was conducted at the first semester of twelfth grade of SMK BLK Bandar Lampung in 2018/2019 academic year. The type of this research was descriptive quantitative research. The subject of this research was 205 students of twelfth grade in 8 classes. The data of this research was obtained by using test. The researcher analyzed the data by giving score the students’ test, determining the students’ ability classification, and calculating the frequency’s percentage and the average of students’ score, so the students’ ability in using prefix and suffix could be known. Based on the result of the research, the percentage of students’ ability in using prefix and suffix of excellent level students’ score was 3.90% or 8 students, good level students’ score was 17.56% or 36 students, fair level students’ score was 13.17% or 27 students, low level students’ score was 11.22% or 23 students, and failed students’ score was 54.15% or 111 students. The majority of correct prefix was inter- by 172 items, and the majority of correct suffixes were -ment and -ion by 139 items. Moreover, the majority of correct part of speech used in test was verb. In conclusion, the average of students’ ability in using prefix and suffix at the first semester of twelfth grade of SMK BLK Bandar Lampung in 2018/2019 academic year was 46.67. So, it was categorized into low level

Abstract

This article mainly discusses the coreference in the Quranic interpretation of  Surah Albaqarah by  Abdullah Yusuf Ali. The aims of the research are: to describe and explain the coreference types found in the Quranic interpretation, the  coreference devices, and relationship types of the coreferential devices. The is a kind of descriptive qualitative research. The population consisted 286 interpretation texts of Surah Al-Baqarah with 112 samples taken as the data of the research chosen by using  purposive sampling technique. The result of the research shows that the coreference types found in the Quranic interpretation are: repetition (6,55%), lexical change  (18,03%), substitution (50,81%) and ellipsis (24,59%). Meanwhile,  the coreferential  devices found are: repetition, lexical change,  and  substitution. Finally,  the relationship types of the co-referential devices are anaphoric (88,52%) and cataphoric (11,48%)

Abstract

This study aimed at investigating the effect of Blended Method (online and offline teaching and learning) and Traditional Method (offline teaching and learning), as the comparison, on students’ reading achievement. There were 200 college students involved in this study. Half of them were taught through a blended teaching method and half of them were taught through a traditional teaching method. The data were taken from the students’ final scores in the lectures which included scores of assignment, quiz, mid-term test, and final term test. The final scores of the two groups were compared to find out the effect of the blended teaching method and the traditional teaching method. The result showed that the scores of students who were taught through Blended Method were significantly better than the scores of students who were taught through Traditional Method. It indicates that utilizing new methods while maintaining good aspects of pre-existing methods has a positive impact on students’ achievement
