Abstract

This paper discusses the improvement of teachers’ pedagogical competence through optimizing academic supervision. Establishing educational programs without being accompanied by the ability of educators is meaningless. A good educator is knowledgeable. Educators would like to complete their obligations intentionally if they have pedagogical competence because each teacher’s obligation requires a variety of abilities. Competence is the ability or people’s capability to do something based on their ability. Meanwhile, pedagogy is an ability that must be owned by educators (padagoc), which is in terms of teachers, with various planned actions to educate (pedagogy) such as planned activities in the process of learning activity management at schools that require certain abilities from teachers and an effort to transform the science (pedagogic) towards students. The research is a school action research (PTS), which aims to determine the success of increasing teachers’ pedagogical competence in teaching through the utilization of audio-visual media at SMP Negeri 11 Dumai. Based on the results of the analysis and discussion, it can be concluded that the percentage of teachers’ pedagogical competence was 63% in the first cycle with the good category and increased to 82% in the second cycle with the good category. Thus, the optimization of academic supervision to improve the teachers’ pedagogical competence at SMP Negeri 11 Dumai is successful.

Abstract

The role of students' attitudes (disposition) towards mathematics is an important element in solving mathematical problems and must be maximized properly. Disposition has the following indicators: self-confident, flexibility, persistent, curiosity, reflecting, apply it. This study aims to describe the elementary students' mathematical disposition profile towards problem solving abilities. The research method uses qualitative-descriptive. Data were collected through questionnaires, observations, and interviews then analyzed by triangulation technique. The results show that there is a significant relationship between elementary school students' mathematical dispositions to problem solving abilities. Students who meet the "excellent" category of mathematical disposition indicators (mathematical disposition indicators score > 85%) have good problem solving skills. Furthermore, students who are categorized as "less" (mathematical disposition indicators score < 60%) have problem solving abilities that need treatment. Each indicator description is described in this article.

Abstract

Teaching material is important to be applied in the teaching and learning process. It is supposed to be related to the student’s needs and traits. Nevertheless, there are several appropriateness of worksheet compiling as supporting material. The research in this paper attempted to find out the need for Multiple Intelligence-based student’s worksheet developments and offer possible recommendations. It employed a qualitative approach and involved 13 English teachers as respondents. They were from selected elementary schools located in various regencies in Central Java. A set of questionnaires was administered and delivered online through Google Forms. It is provided a number of closed and open-ended questions related to the existing curriculum, competency, media and activities, students’ characters, and challenges in compiling the student’s worksheet. The data were analyzed qualitatively. The results reveal that there was a lack of compulsory curriculum and competency, appropriate activities, and environmental interactions. Thus, it is recommended for teachers to take a well-planned curriculum; various activities connected to parental supports, realia, digital tools; and students’ personal traits in developing students’ worksheets. It is a reference to promote a better quality of Teaching English to Young Learners.

Abstract

The discipline in learning is crucial to achieving the effectiveness of teaching-learning. In fact, it is still found that there are undisciplined students encountered during the learning process. Based on the observation results of elementary school students at one of the Christian schools, students who did not follow the rules and procedures were found, such as not using a raised hand so which causes the class to be conducive or unstable. The solution to this problem is the consistency of rule and procedure implementation. It is aimed to see the consistency of the rule and procedure implementation as an attempt to develop the first-grade students’ discipline. The method used is a descriptive qualitative method. The result indicates the consistency of the rule and procedure implementation can develop students’ discipline. It is characterized by an attitude change indicated by students. Still, teachers’ consistency is needed continually in order to make significant behavior. As Christian educators, teachers certainly must believe in the truth of God as a source as the bible, see the existence of God through Jesus Christ as an exemplar, and reflect good character, but must realize that only the holy spirit can empower every student. The recommendation that can be given to teachers is that teachers must be consistent in applying each class rule and procedure so it can produce a significant change in attitude.
