Abstract

This research aimed to know the response of Duku explants toward the giving of auxin (2,4-D) and cytokinin (BA) for callus growth. This research was conducted in plants biotechnology laboratory at University of Riau, from January until May 2014. The experimental design used was randomized block design (RBD) which is consisted by 2 factors. First factor is the giving of 2,4-D concentration consisting by 3 levels, they are: A1 = 1 mg 2,4-D/l, A2 = 1.5 mg 2,4-D/l and A3 = 2 mg 2,4-D/l. Second factor is the giving of BA concentration consisting by 3 levels, they are: B1 = 0 mg BA/l, B2 = 0.5 mg BA/l and B3 = 1 mg BA/l. This research observed visually and represented by image. Results of this research showed the duku explant that inoculated with 1-2 mg/l of auxin (2,4-D) concentration and cytokinin (BA) 0-1 mg/l or by giving of the both combinations still not make the callus growth, because half of the explant turning brown and finally die.   Keyword: duku, 2,4-D, BA, in vitro, brown

Abstract

This research aimed to obtain the F1 performance chili from crosses wrinkled chili that was grown in the peatland to be recommended as a genotype that has a high yield. This research lasted from January to June 2013 in Peatland experimental garden, Agriculture Faculty, University of Riau, Rimbo Panjang Village, Tambang district Kampar regency.This research used a randomized block design (RBD), consisting of 8 treatments (IPB C-111xC-120, IPB C-120xC-111,IPB C-111xC-159, IPB C-159xC-111, IPB C-120xC-159, Tanamo and Princess). The data were statistically analyzed by using analysis of variance, followed by Duncan’s test New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT) at the level of 5%. The result of this research showed that 8 chili genotypes had grown in the peatland had different potentials between a genotype with others and showed genotypes had adaptability quite good in peatland. All chili genotype showed nonsignificant weight per plant compare to Tanamo and Princess and result showed there was maternal effect for characters as a cross IPB C-120xC-159.   Keyword : Chili, Genotypes, Performance, peatland

Abstract

This research is aimed to determine the effect of oil palm empty fruit bunches compost mixed with leguminosa cover crop compost and phosphorus fertilizers at some compositions and to get the best mixed toward growth and result of sorghum. This research was conducted at the experiment land of Agriculture Faculty of Riau University, Pekanbaru, from December 2013 to April 2014. This research used factorial completely randomized design (CRD) consisted of two factors and three replications. As for the treatment is: factor 1 is oil palm empty fruit bunches compost mixed with leguminosa cover crop compost (K) consist of four level, K1= 5 ton/ha oil palm empty fruit bunches compost, K2= 3,75 ton/ha oil palm empty fruit bunches compost + 1,25 ton/ha leguminosa cover crop compost, K3= 2,5 ton/ha oil palm empty fruit bunches compost + 2,5 ton/ha leguminosa cover crop compost, K4= 1,25 ton/ha oil palm empty fruit bunches compost + 3,75 ton/ha leguminosa cover crop compost. Factor 2 is phosphorus fertilizers (P) consist of three level, P0= without TSP, P1= 30 kg/ha TSP, P2= 60 kg/ha TSP. The results of this research showed that 1,25 ton/ha oil palm empty fruit bunches compost mixed with 3,75 ton/ha leguminosa cover crop compost and 60 kg/ha phosphorus fertilizers provide the best results for 245,20 g/m2(2,45 ton/ha) increased by 18,27% compared without P and is significant for the parameters of plant height, dry weight of plants, result per m2 and sorghum biomass.   Keywords: oil palm empty fruit bunches compost, leguminosa cover crop compost, phosphorus fertilizers, Sorghum bicolor L.

Abstract

Maruca testulalis Geyer (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) is a pest long beans pod borer. This study aimed to obtain concentrations of entomopathogenic fungi B. bassiana Vuillemin local which better in control M. testulalis. This research was conducted at the Technical Implementation Unit, Experimental Field, and Plant Pests Laboratory Faculty of Agriculture, University of Riau from April to June 2014. This research has been carried out by using a completely randomized design (CRD), with 4 treatments and 5 replications, in order to obtain 20 experimental units. Each experimental unit consisted of 10 M. testulalis larvae instar 4. The treatment tested were concentrations B. bassiana 0 g/l aquades, 10 g/l aquades, 20 g/l aquades, and 30 g/l aquades. Data were analyzed statistically by analysis of variance and further test with 5% level of Duncan's New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT).The results showed entomopathogenic fungi B.bassiana at a concentration of 30 g/l aquades with a density of 51,2 x 104 kon/ml is better at controlling M. testulalis, because the test cause early death of during 49,60 hours, Lethal time 50 during 91,60 hours, and cause total mortality of 86,00% for 5 days (120 hours).   Keyword: Beauveria bassiana Vuillemin, Maruca testulalis Geyer, Biological control

Abstract

The rice plant (Oryza sativa L.) is a kind of plant that produce rice which is the become main food for majority of Indonesian people. The total of people that rise increasingly must balance with the increasing of  rice production. One of the methods to get the increasing of rice production is applying the System of Rice Intensification (SRI). This research aims to determine the intraction of seeds number and weeds  frequency control on the growth and production of lowland rice. The experiment sites in lowland field of Balai Benih Induk Holtikultura, Kaharudin Nasution Street, Padang Marpoyan, Pekanbaru City, Riau Province. Started on March Until July 2012. Research using Randomized Block Design (RBD) factorial, the first factor consists of 4 threatments (1 seed/hole,2 seeds/hole, 3 seeds/hole, 4 seeds/hole) and the second factor consists of 3 threatments  twice weeding (20, 40 days after planted), three times weeding (20, 30, 40 days after planted) and four times weeding ( 10, 20, 30, 40 days after planted) by  3 repetitions. Data was analyzed by analysis of variance and further test by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DNMRT) at the level of 5%. The research showed that the intraction seeds number and weeds  frequency control were significant to all parameters except in parameter of 1000 seeds weight. The threatment 4 seeds/hole and four times weeding 10, 20, 30, 40 days after planted gave the best effect on growth and production of lowland rice.   Keyword: lowland rice, seeds number, weeds frequency control, SRI.

Abstract

Riau has  the peatland appreciable to be used in the development of agriculture, plantation and development of Industrial Plantation Forest (HTI). One of the plants HTI is a widely developed Acacia crassicarpa. Function of Acacia crassicarpa are as raw material then produce organic matter. This study aims to determine the effect of water level and fertilization on populations and species of fungi in peatland  with litter of acacia (Acacia crassicarpa). This research was conducted in the Screen House, Laboratory of Plant Agriculture Faculty, University of Riau and Plant Protection Unit Office of Food Crops and Horticulture Riau Province, from July to November 2013. The research was conducted  experimentally using completely randomized design (CRD) non-factorial with 6 treatments and 3 replications. The data obtained were analyzed statistically using analysis of variance with Duncan's New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT) at 5% level. Parameters observed were total fungi and types of fungi (macroscopic and microscopic observations). The results showed that the water level without fertilization  affect on total fungi tested. The highest of Total fungi achieved in the treatment of water level without fertilization 30 cm. Treatment of water level with or without fertilizer N, P, K does not affect the type of fungi that exist are Trichoderma sp and Mucor sp, except in water level of 60 cm with N, P, K is Penicillium sp. Based on the identification of characteristic morfologis found 3 Acacia crassicarpa types of fungi namely: Trichoderma sp, Mucor sp and     Penicillium sp. Fungi were found in leaf litter  Acacia crassicarpa dominated by Trichoderma sp and Mucor sp on all treatments water levels.   Keywords : : water level, fertilization, litter of acacia and fungi

Abstract

Soybean contains high protein that the yield can be increased as  intercrops in oil palm plantation. The purpose of this research was to study the application of compost of oil palm empty fruit bunches (OPEFB) to physical characteristic and production of soybean as intercrops among in oil palm plantation. The research was conducted in oil palm plantation, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Riau from February to May 2014. The resecarch carried out experiments used a randomized block design, as treatment is the application of compost of OPEFB that consist of 4 levels (0, 5, 10 and 15 tons/ha), each of treatment repeated 3 times. The effect of each treatment was known Duncan's New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT) at 5% level. The result of this research showed that the application of compost of OPEFB with a dose of 5, 10 and 15 tons/ha effected to physical characteristic of soil such as: expedite permeability, increase the water content and the infiltration rate, but not effected to the bulk density and pore space total. The application of compost of OPEFB 5 tons/ha increase the number of pods, pod percentage pithy, weight of 100 seeds and yield per plot are not significant compared with without compost. The increase the dose of compost of OPEFB to 10 to 15 tons/ha has no effected on all parameter.   Keywords: Soybean, compost of oil palm empity fruit bunches, physical characteristic of soil

Abstract

Palm oil ( elaeis guineensis jacq ) is a important plantations that are supporting Indonesian economy. To get a good seed of coconut palm we should watch the time and volume of water supply, because this is more effective. This research aims is to get a good combination treatment of time and water volume towards palm oil seed growth on main nursery and implemented in green house of UPT field, at Agriculture Faculties, University of Riau. this experiment using completly randomized design ( CRD ) factorially. Consisting of 2 factors: factors I is the time ( W) which is: W1 = 7.30 am, W2 = 2 pm, W3 = 17 pm and factors II were the water volume (A): A1 = 1,0 liters/polybag/day, A2 = 1,5 liters/polybag/day , A3 = 2,0 liters/polybag/day , with 3 repetition and every unit consisting by 27 experiment unit. each unit consisting 2 seeds and total population is 54 seed. Parameter that observed is the addition of plant high, the addition of leaves , the addition of excrescence diameter and leaf wide. The result showed the best combination time is 7.30 am with water volume 2,0 liters/polybag/day towards the parameter of plant high and leaf ammount. The treatment of 2 pm with the water volume 1.5 liters/polybag/day significantly showed on the parameter of leaf wide.   Keyword : palm oil, time of water supply, water volume

Abstract

This reseach aims to determine the effect of interaction of organic fertilizer combination on the growth of two varieties of sorghum. The research was conducted experimentally by using Split Plot Design (SPD) that stacked as RAK pattern consist of main plot varieties CTY-33 and Numbu. Subplot consist of chicken manure fertilizer, chicken manure combined with vermicompost fertilizer and goat manure fertilizer combined with vermicompost fertilizer with 3 replications. Parameters measured were the plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves, panicle length, days to flowering. The results of research shows the best varietys is Numbu varietys, interactions of giving some organic fertilizer on two varieties of sorghum significantly affected on sorghum plant height. Application of organic fertilizers can increase the growth of sorghum plane. Treatment of 2 tons/ha- chicken manure in combinacion with 600 kg/ha- vermicompost fertilizer gave the best response to plant height and stem diameter compared with others.   Keywords : Chicken manure fertilizer, goat manure fertilizer, sorghum, vermicompost

Abstract

This research aims to determine the genetic variability and the heritability character of agronomic some sweet sorghum genotype (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) collection of BATAN. This research has been conducted in Field Experiment and the plant breeding laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Riau from April 2013 to September 2013. This inquiry has been carried on experiments using a randomized block design (RBD) consist of 13 treatments and 3 replications that contained 39 experimental units. Treatment consists of 13 genotypes, there are Patir-1, Patir-2, Patir-3, Patir-4, Patir-5, Patir-6, Patir-7, Patir-8, Patir-9, Patir-10, Kawali, Mandau and Pahat. The outcome showed that Patir-9 was the genotype with the best result because it bears a weight of seeds per panicle, 1000 grain weight and output per m2 higher than other genotypes. Plant height and panicle length wide genetic variability, whereas the other theatrical roles suffer a narrow variability. Characterization of plant height, number of leaves, number of segments per plant, dry weight, panicle length, grain weight per panicle and yield per m2 has a high heritability value, a character who receives a moderate heritability value   that stem diameter and weight of 1000 seeds, while the fiber takes in low heritability values   were age flowering.
