Abstract

Water is very important for human life. The human need water used for drinking, cooking, bathing, washing and any others. Therefore, the condition of clean water must have specialrequirements so that the water does not pose a problem for humans. In the area of peat particularly Riau Province, the water should be treated before consumed. One of thealternative wells water treatment peat area in Riau Province with a simple concept and experiencing such as rapid sand filter technology. This research aimed to determine the time of rapid sand filter media in improving the water quality in the area of peat in Riau province, and get the highest quality of wells water based on the pH parameters, manganese, and organic substances. Rapid sand filter media was made from PVC with 6 '' pipe diameter and145 cm of height. The results showed that rapid sand filter produced the best efficiency to raise the pH by 31.21%, lower organic content of 83.53%, and stabilized the manganesecontent by 66.67%. In general, the processing of rapid sand filter has not been able to fix the pH parameters, and organic matter in accordance with the requirement Regulation from theMinister of Health No.416/Menkes/PER/IX/1990 on water wells peat areas. Abstract

The selection of the type of foundation is very influential on the strength of a building construction. One of the alternatives that can be used as a substitute for cerucuk foundationis helical pile foundation. Helical pile a manufactured steel foundation consisting of one or more helix-shaped bearing plates affixed to a central shaft that is rotated into the ground tosupport structures. This research presented result of static loading test constant stress of penetration method helical pile conducted at peat. Result of data from loading test in theform of load and settlement will be interpreted with tangent of intersection method, and Terzaghi and Peck method. The addition of helical plate under first helical does not give anyeffect on pile capacity if helical diameter is smaller, when a helical plate at the same diameter is added, the pile capacity increase. For empiric formula calculation of helical pilecapacities show that chylindrical shear closer to the results of loading test, with standard error of 1,06.Key words: helical pile, peat, individual plate bearing, cylinder shear

Abstract

Chitin is a biopolymer and can be synthesized from ebi shrimp waste through deproteination and demineralization processes. The purpose of this study was to determine the kinetics of deproteination reaction in chitin isolate with variable reaction temperature and stirring rate. The study began by reacting shrimp waste powder with 3.5% NaOH solution using a ratio of 1:10 at 75 ° C, 85 ° C and 95 ° C and 200 stirring speeds, and 250 rpm in a glass beaker equipped with stirrer. Samples were taken every 10, 20, 30, 50, 70, 90, 110 and 120 minutes as much as 40 mL, then washed until the pH was neutral and the sample filtered. The shrimp powder produced was analyzed using titration method of formol to know the protein content contained in the sample. The results showed that the reaction kinetics follows the pseudo first order equation. The higher the temperature and the speed of stirring given to the deproteination process the greater the concentration produced. The reaction speed constant at 75°C, 85°C and 95°C with 200 rpm stirring speed was obtained at k = 0.0098 min-1 to 0.0217 min-1. While at 250 rpm stirring speed k = 0.0113 min-1 to 0.0255 min-1. The optimal condition available in this study is 95oC with 250 rpm stirring speed so that it produces protein from 14.08% to 0.87%.Key words : Deproteination, chitin, reaction kinetics, ebi shrimp waste, FTIR analysis.

Abstract

Chitin is a naturally abundant polymer and most of it was used as a surfactan and cosmetic raw material. Chitin be able to derive from natural source like shrimp shell waste. The aims of this research were to study the effect of various of time reaction and HCl concentration towards both of calcium concentration reduction and demineralization kinetic model with approach to shrinking core model (SCM). There are 3 stage of model which be able to use: Film layer diffusion, Diffusion through the outcome layer and Chemical reaction. It was began with deproteination at first with NaOH 3,5 % and continued with demineralization using HCl at concentration 0,3 N; 0,6 N; 0,9 N and 1,2 N with variation of reaction time at 15, 30 and 15 minute. The specimen had dried in the oven before the calcium analyzed. The results showed calcium concentration decrease along with increasing of HCl concentration. It get kinetic model at concentration 0,3 N of HCl usage with form: 1−(

Abstract

Palm Fatty Acid Distillate (PFAD) as a byproduct of the processed of palm oil has great potential to be used as raw material for polyester synthesis. The purpose of this research is to study ester polymerisation from PFAD with the composition of initiator, time and temperature as the parameters. First, the esterification process was done by the reaction of PFAD and methanol that used sulfuric acid as catalyst. The reactant composition was 1:8 molar ratio, speed of stirrer at 150 rpm, and H2SO4 composition is 1% (w/w) PFAD with temperature at 70° C for 2 hours. The polymerisation process was done by the reaction of esterification stage product and mixed with benzoyl peroxide as initiator. The variation for this stage were the composition of benzoyl peroxide 1%, 5%,and 9% (w/w) of methyl ester, polymerisation time 4, 5 and 6 hours and polymerisation temperatures of 140, 150 and 160° C. The result showed that the esterification stage product was obtained methyl ester and GC-MS analysis showed that the purity of methyl esters is 90,1%. Polymerisation product that is obtained a polyester but still have vinyl group in the component of the product. Based on the results of polymerisation reaction of the end product, dark and thick and has a viscosity of 180-200 cp. Based on the test results of GC-MS the composition of the methyl ester was reduced from 27.67% to 5.62% as the product of polymerization process which mean that the methyl ester have been converted. The R2 in this study gained 0.9663 which means a significant and lack of fit value of 0.1341 which means insignificant then the variable had a p-value of 0,0002 for the model which it less than α = 0.05 with variables that had a significant impact on model.Key words: benzoyl peroxide, palm fatty acid distillate, polyester, synthesis

Abstract

Soft soil is one of the soil type with low bearing capacity. Generally the problem that arises in the construction on soft soil is sliding. An attempt to improve low shear resistivity of soft soil can be accomplished through soil reinforcement methods. One of the method is by using wooden pile as foundation. Wooden pile can be resembled as a shortpile, one of a foundation type that widely used in soft soil layer especially to bear a large amount load.This research was conducted through laboratory scale model approach method, but the behavior was made to resemble actual behavior in the field. Wooden pile type that will be used in this research is Mahang Wood and will be installed on peat soil and silt soil. Variations of installed wooden pile are 1 pile, 4 pile, and 9 pile with each pile divided into pile with bark and pile without bark. It is also varied with installation of piles for 1 day and 7 day. It is hoped that such small-scale behavior will result in additional theories of reinforcement in soft soil.The result of this research is the increasing of soil bearing capacity along with the addition of pile number. The bark of the wood pile also affects the bearing capacity. Increased bearing capacity occurs from 1 day to 7 day installation.Keywords : bearing capacity, wooden pile, soft soil, peat, silt

Abstract

Indonesia is a country that surrounded by three continental plate. The wave dispersion of this tectonic plate caused the bearing capacity of soil decreased until liquefaction is emerged. Some of area in Sumatera, like Aceh, Padang, Bengkulu and also Pekanbaru is nearby with the boundary fault, which is very risk to get the geotechnical problems caused by liquefaction. This research are using shaking table models have function to determine how big is the effect of sand from varies area and vibration acceleration for liquefaction potential. The vibration acceleration varies is using 0,25 g and 0,32 g. The sand from varies area are came from Danau Bingkuang, Garuda Sakti and Sungai Tonang that has different percentage of fine course, medium course and rough course. According to test results, conclusions that can be determined are that Danau Bingkuang has mostly fine course as 54,27% is get the maximum increasing pore water pressure and maximum soil settlement, and include as the one of most potentially to liquefied.Keywords: Liquefaction, Shaking Table, Quarry, ru Rasio, Embankment.

Abstract

Synthesized catalyst ZnO precipitant zinc oxalate was used as the catalyst for converted Crude Palm Oil (CPO) which has a high Free Fatty Acid (FFA) into methyl ester. This research is aimed to determine the kinetics of transesterification reaction of high FFA CPO to methyl ester with that catalyst. The data of kinetics transesterification reaction is done by isolation technique that is by comparison of mole ratio of CPO : methanol 1: 18. Kinetic of transesterification was carried out at different temperatures (45 - 65°C) and different times of reaction (0 - 60 minutes). The effects of temperatures and time of the reaction rate constant were investigated. The result showed that content of methyl ester increased with the increasing of the reaction temperatures. The highest content of methil ester of 97,7% was obtained at 65°C and 60 minutes of reaction time. The rate constant of transesterification was determined by employing integral and differential method with the overall chemical reaction following the pseudo first order reaction. Abstract

Currently, the most common method of cutting steel is cutting with oxygen gas. Because the cutting method with manual cutting produces poor results and complicated processes. This plate cutting tool is made to facilitate the work especially in the field of construction. The used research method is based on the workprinciple of CNC 2 axis machine, because it is able to move in the direction of X and Y axis on the work plane, also has a hight accurancy and precision. This plate cutting tool use 3 Softwares, i.e Universal G-Code Sender as a controller, QCAD as a workpiece design and DXF2G-CODE as a code exporter. The manufacture ofmicrocontroller-based plate cutting tool results an easier plate cutting process, because the operator have to input the data according to the necessary only. From the X and Y axis movement and plate cutting velocity testing, the result data has equal magnitude between the program, simulation and actual condition.Key Words : Oxy-Cutting, Microcontroller, Arduino UNO.

Abstract

This research to examines the initial variation of observation data based on Hijricalendar, because the initial time of observation data will affect the value of the resultingtidal components. The data was simulated against one hundred and thirty-five variationsof observation time. The result of data analysis shows that the smallest RMSE value fromthe verification result of the simulation data is found on the data of the early date of 12Hijri calendar is when the phase of the first humpback moon. This indicates that the timevariation of the date of the observation of the matching observation data at the study siteis between approaching the full moon phase and after the full moon phase. The F valueindicates that the location of the study entered on the classification of the daily doubletide type (semi diurnal tide).Keywords : tidal, method of Admiralty, Hijri
