Abstract

The type of pavement commonly used in Indonesia is flexible pavement that uses asphalt as its binding material. It is very important to maintain the characteristic of asphalt that functions as the aggregate adhesive in a mixture of asphalt concrete (laston). One way of maintaining or improving the characteristics of the laston is by using graphene as an additive. This study was aimed to examine and analyze the effect of adding graphene as an additive and to find out the most effective level of graphene addition in the asphalt mixture to the Marshall characteristics of the AC–BC laston mixture. This study combined the addition of graphene as an additive of 3.5%, 4%, and 4.5% of the weight of asphalt. The test results showed that the stability value of Marshall characteristics at optimum bitumen content conditions is increased. The highest stability value is found in the addition of 4.5% of graphene which is 1500 kg. The most effective level of graphene addition in the asphalt mixture against Marshall characteristics is by adding 4.5% graphene. The addition of 4.5% of graphene has the highest stability value with a difference of 200 kg or 14.81%, while the value of flow is 4,5 mm, VIM is 3.7%, VFA is 76%, VMA is 14,8%, and MQ is 350 kg/mm, all these values fulfill Bina Marga specifications 2010 revision 3, except the flow values.Keywords: Graphene, Marshall characteristics, AC–BC, Laston

Abstract

The last decade has been enormous invasion of wireless device in the evolution of technology. The requirement of high throughput is needed to provide the quality of device such as audio, data, video, and games. However, the connected devices grown and increase critcially year by year. Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) that embedded for 4G technologies as one of technology that more likely to adapted on 5G to improve the data peak rate for SNR (Signal-to-Noise Ratio). Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) confirmed that can be the solution to provide better efficiency. This paper will proposed the design of dual band MIMO antenna 1x4 for 5G smartphone. The proposed antenna is designed RT Duroid 5880 substrate with overall dimension size of 150x70mm. The antenna consist of 8 elements that achieved -25.24 dB of return loss at 28 GHz frequency while at 38 GHz is -26.84 dB. Then achieved gain 8.82 dBi at 38 GHz frequency and 9.52 dBi at 38 GHz. Abstract

This study will be suggested to gather information in very wide area for appropriate decision making to overcome a fault. Some important things are implementing the Wide Area Protection (WAP) system using Measurement Phasor Unit (PMU) and Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) on the IEEE 14 bus electric power system. This 14 bus system is modeled using Matlab/Simulink. Then, the fault detection location runs on the electric power transmission line with a wide area of the system that has been modeled. The purpose of this study is to design WAP system on the IEEE 14 bus system based on the PMU and ANN. PMU functions to convert voltage and current waves into phasor forms, magnitude and angle of voltage and current function to identify the location of three-phase short circuit faults. PMU via Matlab/Simulink works well and, it can read the magnitude value and the angle of current and voltage on the entire bus. The simulation is performed on variations on ANN input data current and voltage. The results of the training and testing of ANN gave an accurate value of the input current of 89%, a voltage of 85% and a combination of current and voltage of 78%.Keywords: ANN, fault location, PMU, short circuit, WAP

Abstract

The surfactant is a substance which has the ability to reduce surface tension, interface tension, and increase the stability of an emulsion. The Surfactant is an intermediate product which is widely applied in the fields of health, pharmacy, industry, and cleaning products in the household. This study makes biosurfactant from chicken fat. The purpose of this study is to make biosurfactants from chicken fat, to see the effect of mole ratio chicken fat methyl ester with trietanolamine and amount catalyst of KOH on the biosurfactant characterization produced. The preliminary treatment in this study includes preparation of raw materials, extraction of chicken fat by oven method, the degumming process using phosphoric acid at temperature 90°C for 1 hour, gum separation by centrifuge. The transesterification process of methyl ester formation with a mole ratio of oil: methanol 1 : 9, KOH catalyst as much as 2%(b/b) of oil, at temperature 65°C for 6 hours. In the final stage, the transesterification process of chicken fat methyl ester and trietanolamine with operating condition of time is 4 hours and temperature 150°C and agitation speed 200 rpm. The transesterification process with mole ratio variation TEA : chicken fat methyl ester 1 : 2, 1 : 3, 1 : 4 and amount of catalyst variation 3%, 5% and 7%. The best characteristics of biosurfactant were produced at mole ratio 1 : 2, KOH catalyst 3% with the density of 0,922 gr/ml, the pH 9,8, the surface tension of 33,54%, the interface tension of 29,29%, the emulsion stability of 98%, the yield 76,45%, and FT-IR test to ascertain amine functional groups in biosurfactant.Keyword : Biosurfactant, chicken fat, transesterification, triethanolamine

Abstract

Infrastructure boom requires a large amount of aggregate which is non renewable. On the other hand infrastructure construction create some amount of concrete waste which might be recycled. This study investigated marshall characteristic of Asphalt Treated Base using concrete waste as coarse aggregate substitution. Concrete waste was mixed with fresh aggregate at ratio of 100:0, 75:25, 50:50, 25:75 and 0:100 asphalt content varied are 5%, 5.5%, 6%, 6.5% and 7%. The optimum aggregate contents for each variation i.e. 6.05%, 6%, 6.5%, 6.5% and 6% respectively. The results show that all variation fulfilled the specification the 75:25 variation was recommended as mixture ratio with high stability value 2.320 kg and also asphalth content was affordable with 6% of optimum asphalt content.Keywords: Waste concrete, aggregate, asphalt treated base (ATB)

Abstract

Electrical energy is energy that is needed by society and industry. To fulfill this need, many power plants were built in Indonesia. Gas Turbine Power Plant (PLTG) is one type of power plant that supplies electricity in Indonesia. The installed power capacity of PLTG in Indonesia is 3,591 MW or 9.6% of the total power plant. PLTG spending in Indonesia is the fastest among other types of power plants, which is equal to 10% per year. This energy analysis is carried out by taking samples of the Teluk Lembu PLTG with a capacity of 21.6 MW. The purpose of this study is to calculate the thermal efficiency of a generator. And from the results of the calculation analysis, it was found that the compressor worked 3.40 MW, the heat entering was 65.75 MW, the work of the 48.63 MW turbine, the net work of 15.92 MW and the efficiency thermal was 24.23% Keywords: Gas turbine power plant, energy, efficiency thermal

Abstract

The Batak Toba clan is one of the tribes existed in North Sumatra. The Batak Toba tribe has many of artistic and cultural potential. Thus there are also plenty potential natural resources, traditionalarchitecture that displays local cultural values and wisdom. In today's modern era, many people are ignorant of the history and culture of the Batak Toba, resulting in attention and enthusiasmdecreasing about the history and culture of Batak Toba. Therefore, this research aims to design a cultural center for the development and preservation of the potential of the Batak Toba culture inorder to improve people's knowledge about culture and the history of Batak Toba. The selection of Tobasa Regency as the cultural center location because it has well potential, strategic location,cultural heritage and includes the development of the Toba Caldera Geopark area. The method used in this design is the Neo-Vernacular Architecture approach by applying the principles anddesign ideas that exist in the Bolon house with the addition of modern elements in it. The concept used is the transformation of Adaptation Culture concept, which expected to be able to unitebetween architecture with nature and Batak Toba culture aspects. The final result is the design of the Batak Toba Cultural Center which presented the local wisdom of Batak Toba, especially the themodernization of Ruma Bolon however remain expressed local identity.Keyword: Architecture Neo Vernacular, Batak Toba, Culture, Culture Center

Abstract

Pertamina Dumai Refinery has carried out Open Access Project which changed the processed crude from initial design by substituting SLC with another "light sweet" crude from outside Riau. The percentage of this replacement reaches 50% of the total crude intake. This study reviews the impact of changes in the composition of processed crude oil on the composition of produced green coke. The research was conducted throughout 2018 with preliminary data gathered since 1996. Green coke samples were taken per month for properties analysis such as moisture content, volatile matters, ash content, sulfur content and fixed carbon, to calculate conversion value of green coke. The conclusion of this research is that the fluctuations in the crude composition were quite significant towards the composition and the conversion value (ton to barrel) of the produced green coke.Keywords: crude oil, conversion, green coke, volatile matter

Abstract

Turn-milling is a machining method with a system that combines turning and milling operations, which the work-piece and the cutting tool perform a rotating movement simultaneously. The purpose of this study was to investigate and analyze the surface roughness of the orthogonal cutting process in turn-milling machining. The rotary milling test was performed the orthogonal method and produces a final surface roughness that varies with tests carried out for the work-piece speeds and the feed speeds. The resulting surface quality was also influenced by the parameters of the machining process in the form of work-piece loadings and feed rates. This study revealed the higher rotation of the work-piece, the higher the value of the surface roughness. Based on the roughness class, the rotational parameters of the work-piece for 350 rpm with a feed speed of 0.051 mm that was good parameters in this study, which resulting the lowest surface roughness average value of 2.439 μm.Keyword : Turn-milling, orthogonal turn-milling, rotation, feed, roughness.

Abstract

The gasification stove is one of the technologies for converting biomass into thermal energy for cooking that energy saving and environmental friendly. The gasification stove can increase thermal efficiency up to twice and the energy relatively larger than biomass combustion with conventional methods. The objective of research is to study the effect of secondary air flow rates on the perfomance of the gasification stove. This research uses three units gasification stove with dimension outer cylinder of the stove 1(H1 = 30 cm, D1 = 17 cm); stove 2 (H2 = 30 cm, D2 = 20 cm) and stove 3 (H3 = 30 cm, D3 = 23 cm). While the fuel used is teak wood. To evaluating stove perfomance procedure WBT (water boiling test) was used with response variables: burning rates, thermal efficiency, and fire power. Color, height, flame temperature of the stove are including in evaluation of stove perfomance. The experimental result obtained burning rates is approximately 14.03 to 19.55 g/minutes. Thermal efficiency of the natural draft gasification stove is approximately 29.07% to 39.9%, with the highest efficiency is on the stove with cylinder outside the stove in 23 cm diameter. The natural draft gasification stove capable of producing up to 5.9 kWth thermal energy with the highest flame temperature reaches 940oC.Keywords: biomass, gasification, natural draft, stove, thermal efficiency.
