Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Diarrhea is a waterborne disease due to consumption of contaminated food/water. People in urban slum area have highest risk to get diarrhea because of poor hygiene and sanitation as well as limited access to uncontaminated water. This study aimed to identify contamination in watersources by Entamoeba Sp and helmint eggs (Anchylostoma duodenale, Ascaris lumbricoides, Trichuris trichuria) in one of urban slum area in Bandung municipality. Samples were taken from 123 watersources (74 tap water, 21 borehole, 22 dugwell and 6 spring water) which was randomly selected in 10 RW along the Cikapundung river basin in Tamansari subdistrict during period of July-September 2015. Water samples were examined by PCR to detect Entamoeba Sp and microscopic identification for helminth eggs. 90 out of 123 samples were positive for Entamoeba Sp (59 tap water, 16 dugwell, 11 borehole and 4 spring water). Helminth egg of Ascaris lumbricoides was detected from unimproved common dugwell which had very high risk of contamination. Appropriate of water treatment prior to consumption is vastly important. Physical improvement to construct improved dugwell should be done to prevent contamination from helminth eggs in watersources.

Abstract

Pregnant women who infected by malaria were three times more likely to suffer from other diseases. This study aimed to explore Kutai cultural perspectives, behaviors, perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived benefits and barriers, perceived threat and cues to action associated with malaria in pregnancy. The qualitative study was conducted through indepth interviews of 37 informants consist of maternal, their husbands, health workers and local community leaders. This study revealed that malaria was not a threat because of the perception that malaria only exposed in forest. The community already had good health seeking behavior. All informants knew that malaria as a dangerous disease especially during pregnancy but no one knew malaria in pregnancy can cause anemia, low birth weight, miscarriage and stillbirth. At the individual level, almost all informants have taken preventive health behavior using mosquito nets, mosquito electric, repellent lotion, and burning dried leaves. At the community level prevention activities called gotong royong (all members of community work together) to keep the environment clean to reduce the mosquito breeding place was rarely done.

Abstract

Family planning programs in Indonesia is one of the most successful programs in the world . Achievement of the Contraceptive Prevalence Rate (CPR) has increased until this year. In 1971 Indonesia’s CPR less than 5 % . The numbers continued to rise sharply until 2007, for modern contraception has reached 61.4 %. However, based on data unmet need for contraception exists each year. The objective of this research is to analyze the relationships between husbands fertility preferences and unmet need family planning in Indonesia. This research used 2007  Indonesia Demografi and Health Survei (IDHS) data. Subject of research were monogamous couples. Chi square statistical test and logistic regression test were used with Confidence Interval (CI) 95% and p<0,05. Based on the results of the analysis data found that from 7464 couples, it was 8,1% found unmet need for contraception (wife). Unmet need for contraception (wife) was significantly related to husbands fertility preferences (OR=1,4; CI95%=1,08-1,90), knowledge gap and occupational gap. In conclution, husband fertility preferences were likely to be greater and have more chances of causing wives unmet need for contraception than wife fertility preferences.
