Background: Exposure to secondhand smoke among passive smoking pregnant women was known to contain various toxic chemical substances such as Nicotine, Carbon Monoxide, Cadmium, and Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon. These substances are able to reduce the oxygen supply to the fetus and stimulate the myometrium contraction that could lead to preterm delivery. This study aims to prove the correlation between passive smoking pregnant women and preterm delivery cases. Methods: This study is an analytical observational study using case control approach. This study was conducted in Mawar I ward RSUD Dr. Moewardi, Surakarta. The subjects in this study are 60 who perform delivery in RSUD Dr. Moewardi. Subject preferences were performed using fixed disease-sampling method where subjects are divided into 2 groups, the group consisting of 20 pregnant women with preterm delivery cases and the control group consisting of 40 pregnant women with aterm delivery. Each group was given a questionnaire contains questions regarding passive smokers status as an independent variable, as well as antenatal care (ANC) status, age, and previous preterm delivery history as the confounding factors that will be controlled. Chi square tests and multiple logistic regression analysis were used to analyze the data. Results: The study revealed significant correlation between passive smoking pregnant women and preterm delivery. Pregnant women with secondhand smoke exposure have a preterm delivery risk 9.4 times greater when compared to pregnant woman with no exposure after controlling the confounding factors which is antenatal care and considering the history of previous delivery (p = 0.008; OR = 9.39). Conclusion: There is a significant correlation between passive smoking pregnant women and preterm delivery. Passive smoking pregnant women have a higher risk to experience preterm delivery compared to non-passive smoking pregnant women. Keywords: pregnant women, passive smoking, preterm delivery.

Distribution of depression showed 39.4% of students have mild depression, 31.9% of students have middle depression, the remaining 28.7% of students have severe depression. The cross distribution of these two variables showed that students with a low economic status were more severely depressed, while students with high economic status were less severely depressed. Contingency coefficient (C) statistical test of 0.248 indicates that the degree of closeness of the relationship between the two variables is weak. Conclusions: There is a relationship of economic status with the incidence of depression in adolescents at SMAN 8 Surakarta with the level of relationship between the two variables is weak. Background: Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is the most common arbovirus on human, and causes hundreds of deaths every years. Two laboratory criteria used to diagnose this disease are thrombocytopenia and increased hematocrit concentration (hemoconcentration). The purpose of this study is to analyze the correlation between platelet count and hematocrit concentration in DHF patients. Methods: This research was observational analytic study with cross sectional approach at Moewardi Hospital. Sample was taken from adult DHF cases at Moewardi Hospital. The data was gathered from medical records of patients. Sample selection had been done by checking the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the study sample, and the amount of samples in this study was 142 subjects. Variables correlated were platelet count and hematocrit. The data was statistically analyzed using Kolomogorov-Sminov normality test and Pearson correlation test. Results: Patients age ranging between 18-71 years old, with the mean age was 28 years old. The mean platelet count was 69.000/l. The mean hematocrit concentration was 43%. There was a significantly negative correlation between platelet count and hematocrit concentration in DHF patient, but this correlation was weak (p=0,008; r= -0,222). Conclusion: There is a significantly negative weak correlation between Platelet Count and Hematocrit concentration in DHF Patients. The lower the platelet count, the hematocrit percentage would be higher. Keywords: Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever, Platelet Count, Hematocrit

Background: Stroke is a major cause of disability and the fourth leading cause of death. The incidence and prevalence of stroke is directly proportional to the increase in blood pressure, any increase in systolic blood pressure of 10 mmHg and a diastolic blood pressure of 20 mm Hg will increase the incidence of stroke. High blood pressure in people with stroke adversely affect the quality of life of patients. This study was conducted to determine the relationship of blood pressure with quality of life score related to patients health after ischemic stroke in RSUD Dr. Moewardi. Methods: This study was an observational analytic study with cross sectional approach. This study was conducted in August-September 2014 in Neurology Outpatient Clinic of RSUD Dr. Moewardi. Sampling was done by exhaustive sampling, the selection was done by checking the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the sample. Measuring instrument used was a questionnaire Health Related Quality of Life (HR-QOL) SF-36. Data obtained were 36 research subjects and data analysis using multiple linear regression analysis test with SPSS 20.00 for Windows. Results: Seen from the patient's blood pressure, the average systolic blood pressure 143 mmHg and the average diastolic blood pressure of 88 mmHg with an average quality of life of patients with ischemic stroke was 340.27. It was found that there was negative and significant correlation between systolic blood pressure with the quality of life of patients with ischemic stroke b = -3.86; p = 0.003 (p <0.05), there is negative correlation between diastolic blood pressure with the quality of life of patients with ischemic stroke b = -0.77; p = 0771 (p> 0.05), for confounding factors, there were negative and significant correlation between age and quality of life of patients with ischemic stroke b = -4.52; p = 0.008 (p <0.05). Adjusted R2 value = 0.59 showing 59% suitability model in population. Conclusions: Each 1 mmHg increase in systolic blood pressure will lower the quality of life score as much as 3.86 points and each 1 mm Hg increase in age would lower the quality of life score as much as 4.52 points. Background: The association between exposure to cigarette smoke with chronic suppurative otitis media is still debated. Cigarette smoke reduce the function of cilia, resulting blockage of mucus in the Eustachian tube. Besides of that, cigarette smoke is also a stressor that can lead to decreased immune system. This situasion make organism easier to develop and entry into the middle ear. This study aimed to determine the association between exposure to cigarette smoke with chronic suppurative otitis media in RSUD Dr. Moewardi. Methods: This study was observational by using case control design. Research subjects are grouped into case and control groups. The sample was selected by purposive sampling with inclusion and exclusion criteria have been determined. Data is collected by questionnaire of smoking history and medical record data of patients. Data were analyzed using Chi Square test with SPSS 17.0 for Windows. Results: There was a significant association between exposure to cigarette smoke with chronic suppurative otitis media in RSUD Dr. Moewardi. Samples with a history of smoking had a risk of chronic suppurative otitis media 4, 5 times higher than without a history of smoking (p = 0, 028; OR = 4, 5). Conclusions: There is a association between exposure to cigarette smoke with chronic suppurative otitis media in RSUD Dr. Moewardi. Smoking cigarette can increase the risk of chronic suppurative otitis media. Keywords: exposure to cigarette smoke, Chronic suppurative otitis media.
