Abstract

The study of gender issues along with the dynamics of the times has been in the spotlight, especially the reviewers of Islamic interpretation and thought, gender issues are getting hotter so that the implications are for commentators to continue to do ijtihad so that interpretations are in accordance with the text and context. The gender issue is specifically contained in the Qur'an Surah an-Nisā' (4): 3, where this verse often has different interpretations of the classical, medieval, and modern-contemporary commentators. Specifically, the medieval-classical interpretation tends to understand the verse as legitimacy and a commandment to practice polygamy. But on the one hand, modern-contemporary thinking reads the verse more as a monogamy command rather than on the aspect of polygamy. This diversity becomes a necessity which is certainly caused by several factors that are the background for these commentators. The purpose of this article is to try to analyze the causes of a shift in interpretation and the factors behind the occurrence of a shift in interpretation, especially Surah an-Nisā' 4: 3 from the perspective of classical, medieval, to modern-contemporary commentators. This research is a library research with an approach descriptive analysis. The results of this study indicate that the medieval-classical interpretation of understanding the verse is due to the influence of patriarchal culture and ideology so that the text is often understood textually without dialogue between the text and reality However, the modern-contemporary interpretation of the verse does not refer to the aspect of polygamy even though it is essentially an order, but rather to the monogamous aspect, because contextual reading in understanding the text needs to have a dialogue by looking at its implications for social reality

Abstract

The theory of ‘adâlah al-ṣaḥâbah which is adobted by mainstream hadith experts should be critized. This inseparable from several facts tha are presented to us. Several facts assumed to support the companions justice. Such as companion’s loyalty, obedience, and readiness to sacriface for the prophet. However, we are also confronted with facts which demonstrate their disobedience to the prophet. Arguments ready to sacrifice to defend the prophet contradict other facts that show their efforts to avoid even fleeing from the battlefield. However, how to explain a contradiction like this is a problem that hadith experts have left to float and gave birth to a never-ending debate. This paper puspose to put an end this circular debate by applaying the concept of ‘adâlat al-râwi to the Companions. Using the historical critical method and content analysis, this paper tries to reexamine the concept of ‘adâlah al-ṣaḥâbah by tracing the origin of the word ṣa-ḥâ-bah in the Qur’an and Hadith. And then redifining the criteria of Companions which has implication to their integrity. The behavior of many of the Companions contradicted the instructions of the Qur’an dan Hadith and contrary to the principles of justice made by hadits expert. The concept of ‘adâlah al-ṣaḥâbah is more fitting to be called a dogma rather than a scientific theory because it is not slack in the face of historical analysis

Abstract

The Qur'anic explains that in humans there is a feeling of mahabbah which is interpreted as love. The urgency of love is very fundamental in the human journey, both love between fellow human beings, nature and the environment, even more important is love for Allah swt. Mahabbah which is understood with love is loving deeply as a feeling of longing and happy for something. This feeling then causes a person to focus on him and even encourage him to give the best, in the form of love and affection.  This research method is through interpretation using the maudhu'i interpretation method, which is qualitative in nature to be analyzed inductively, and the results of the research emphasize the meaning of generalization. Through an approach in the form of library research, it is formulated in an analytical descriptive style to obtain a conclusion. The final result of this study confirms that the orientation of human mahabbah is oriented to three categories. First, man's allegiance to something pleasant. Second, human love for something valuable, Third, human love for the existence of a common perception. From all that is done, it will produce an attitude and a sense of mahabbah that is framed with Islamic values that are constantly oriented to self-servitude to Allah swt. while being oriented towards tolerance, humanization, in a pluralistic society

Abstract

The issue of euthanasia, which is death with the help of a doctor, has become a topic of discussion among medical and religious experts. This article aims to analyze Al-Quran Arguments in Responding to the Issues of Euthanasia. This research is a literature review with a descriptive analysis approach, namely explaining the concepts studied comprehensively and then clarifying according to the problem to obtain actual data. The findings obtained in this article are that carrying out active euthanasia is the same as murder because the energetic actions of doctors have taken someone's life on purpose; based on several verses, namely (1) Surah Yūsuf: 87 essentially has given up hope of God's grace; (2) Surah Yūnus: 49, a person has no right to advance or undo someone's death, even though only Allah has the right to this and (3) Surah al-Mā'idah: 32, killing one soul is like killing all souls

Abstract

Entering the modern period of discourse on the interpretation of the Koran, the emergence of a new approach to interpreting the Koran, namely the hermeneutical approach, has sparked much debate. When applied to it in general, the polemic circle around hermeneutics revolves around the question of the validity of hermeneutic methodology to the Koran and the analysis of the results of the interpretation of hermeneutic applications to the Koran, which distort the fundamental teachings of Islam. Very few studies have criticized the results of implementing the hermeneutics of the Koran using the theoretical framework of al-dakhīl fi al-Tafsīr. So, this research aims to fill this void. The author's research criticizes Abdullah Saeed's thoughts about the crucifixion of Isa al-Masih as a result of using the hermeneutic method of contextual interpretation. Through the methodology of content analysis and critical analysis, the authors found. First, Abdullah Saeed, through his theory of contextual interpretation, interprets verse 157 of al-Nisa with the conclusion that Isa al-Masih was killed and crucified. Second, Abdullah Saeed's interpretation is identified as al-dakhīl because Abdullah Saeed interprets the Koran out of the meaning of the text without any guidance; even the clues from the series of verses 157-159 require the textual meaning. In addition, forcing a uniform understanding of the crucifixion of Isa al-Masih against Christian traditions has violated the principle of religious pluralism

Abstract

The social contract is a critical concept in the democratic system brought by the West. This concept agrees with the existence of agreements and the transfer of power from the people to the authorities based on the principle of the general will, in the form of individual freedoms that must be protected and realized. It is then very contrary to the conception of Islamic politics, which has a concept equivalent to a social contract in the form of the Bai’at concept. Therefore, this research objectives were to examine the Bai’at concept put forward by Ibn Khaldun to be a mirror for comparison of the Western social contract; and to see its implementation in the state system. Based on the library research method with a descriptive-analytical approach, it could be concluded that: first, the Western social contract contained three interconnected concepts, namely: society, sovereignty, and liberty. Second, according to Ibn Khaldun, Bai’at was very relevant to be referred to as a social contract with three pieces of evidence: the ummah or society in the position of giving the bai'at; power aimed to maintain the benefit of the ummah; and shari’a which is the agreement value. Third, its implementation in the state system was seen in the appointment of leaders in Islam: the existence of a contract between the leader and the community to benefit the hereafter

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to explain Muhammad Shadiq's Qalb al-Qur'an in his work, faḍâ’il al-Qur'an. The inquiries are as follows: What Qur'anic verses are contained in Qalb al-Qur'an? How do the faḍâ’il al-Qur'an forms in Surah al-Fâ'tiḥah verses 4-5 illustrate receiving privileges from the Qur'an? The book of Qalb al-Qur'an by Muhammad Shadiq has a representation of faḍâ’il al-Qur'an that has about 56 features, according to qualitative-descriptive methodologies, informative, and performative approaches from Sam D. Gill. These features consist of a combination of one or two verses that make up the 114 surahs of the Qur'an's qalb (heart). The author shows the fourth and fifth verses in Surah al-Fâ’tiḥah as qalb based on several interpretations as evidence of its specialty study. While the fifth verse discusses the responsibilities of a servant who must worship only Allah and always seek His help, the fourth verse discusses Allah's power in the cosmos and how He has the right to reward and hold each of His servants accountable in the hereafter. These two verses are regarded as the qalb in Surah al-Fâ’tiḥah because they have a much deeper, more distinctive, and all-encompassing meaning than the other verses

The type of research used is library research through data collection techniques by searching for sources either from articles, books, or other sources relevant to the topic of discussion. After the data is collected, then the selection researcher and then the analysis researcher. After analysis, the next stage is the last stage, namely drawing conclusions. The results showed that the theological thinking of Abdurrahman Wahid's perspective was divided into three discussions: pluralism, the pribumization of Islam, and neo-modernism. These three ideas have implications for national resilience such as pluralism which can create national strength because of the formation of an attitude of tolerance, mutual respect, respect, and a consistent philosophy in achieving goals. Islamic indigenization can develop national resilience through the formation of a dynamic, adaptive, and universal Islamic society or openness. Neo-modernism through an attitude of solidarity based on aspects of equality can create national resilience

Abstract

The articulation of Muslims in Indonesia, as well as in other parts of the Islamic world, is a reflection of the dialectic between normative and historical Islamic teachings. In the historicity aspect, the articulation can be influenced by one of them, the dialectic of thought. This study aims to find traces and influences of the thoughts of Muhammad Abdi al-Jabiri, a contemporary Muslim thinker, on the dynamics of Islamic thought in Indonesia in the contemporary era. This study is library research that traces various works of al-Jabiri, which influenced Islamic thought in Indonesia with a hermeneutical approach, especially Gadamer's hermeneutics and Karl Manheim’s model of knowing sociology. From the results of tracking and studying these issues, it was found that al-Jabiri's thoughts influenced the younger generation of Muslims affiliated with the Nahdlatul Ulama tradition of thought. Some of the young generations of educated NU have used al-Jabiri's thoughts as a reference in developing the dynamics of thought by calling itself a school of Islamic post-traditionalism
