Abstract

ABSTRACTTask-based flipped learning, integrating cultural topics and activities, is explored for its potential in enhancing intercultural communicative competencies (ICCs) in language education. This quasi-experimental study focuses on integrating metacognitive skills into task-based flipped learning to enhance prospective English teachers' ICCs. The participants are divided into experimental and control groups, with data collected through tests and analyzed using parametric statistical methods. The results indicate that metacognitive skills alone have a positive impact on learners' ICCs, with high levels of metacognitive skills correlating with commendable ICCs. Task-based flipped learning is identified as a promising approach for fostering ICCs in language education.ABSTRAKPembelajaran flipped learning berbasis tugas, yang mengintegrasikan topik dan aktivitas budaya, dieksplorasi untuk potensinya dalam meningkatkan kompetensi komunikatif antar budaya (ICC) dalam pendidikan bahasa. Studi quasi-eksperimental ini berfokus pada integrasi keterampilan metakognitif ke dalam pembelajaran flipped learning berbasis tugas untuk meningkatkan ICC calon guru bahasa Inggris. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa keterampilan metakognitif saja memiliki dampak positif pada ICC peserta didik, dengan tingkat keterampilan metakognitif yang tinggi berkorelasi dengan ICC yang baik. Abstract

ABSTRACTThe present study explores the process of instilling religious moderation values in English teaching at an Indonesian vocational school. Furthermore, challenges in instilling religious moderation values and solutions are discussed. The qualitative case study method was used in this study. Data were gathered through observation, semi-structured interviews with two English language teachers and two students at an Indonesian vocational school, and documentation. The findings reveal that internalization of religious moderation values can be incorporated through verbal stimulation (reminders and advice), English material, teaching methods, teachers' behavior, and assignments. These values include tolerance, discussion, justice, dynamics, creativity, and innovation. Meanwhile, challenges include students' personality differences and a lack of English textbooks containing religious moderation values. Several strategies were used to tackle the obstacles, including motivating students to participate actively in the teaching and learning process and exploring English material dealing with religious moderation. The implication of the study was discussed. ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi proses penanaman nilai-nilai moderasi beragama dalam pengajaran bahasa Inggris di sekolah menengah kejuruan (SMK) di Indonesia. Selanjutnya, tantangan yang dihadapi guru bahasa Inggris dalam menanamkan nilai-nilai moderasi beragama, dan solusinya juga dibahas. Metode studi kasus kualitatif digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, wawancara semi terstruktur dengan dua guru bahasa Inggris dan dua siswa SMK di Indonesia, dan dokumentasi. Hasil temuan menunjukkan bahwa internalisasi nilai moderasi beragama dapat diwujudkan melalui stimulasi verbal (pengingat dan nasihat), materi bahasa Inggris, metode pengajaran, perilaku guru, dan penugasan. Nilai-nilai tersebut antara lain toleransi, diskusi, keadilan, dinamika, kreativitas, dan inovasi. Guru bahasa Inggris menghadapi tantangan karena perbedaan kepribadian siswa dan terbatasnya sumber atau materi bahasa Inggris yang mengandung nilai-nilai moderasi agama. Adapun beberapa strategi yang digunakan guru untuk mengatasi kendala tersebut antara lain memotivasi siswa untuk berpartisipasi aktif dalam proses belajar mengajar dan mengeksplorasi materi bahasa Inggris yang berhubungan dengan moderasi agama. Abstract

ABSTRACTA paraphrasing strategy instruction model has been developed through a research and development method. The developed model is called the 3RI (Read, Rewrite, Revise, Integrate) paraphrasing strategy instruction model. This is a part of the research and development, which is aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of the developed model. For evaluation, the field testing was carried out in the English study program at the University of Mataram. Seventy-five students who were taking academic writing courses were involved in this study. To evaluate the effectiveness of the developed model, the students self-assessed before and after having been treated using the 3RI paraphrasing strategy instruction model. After the treatment, the students were asked to fill in the questionnaire, which covered statements about the students' responses toward the instruction with the developed model. The results indicated a significant difference between the student's scores in the self-assessment before and after the treatment. Further, the students generally responded positively to the treatment with the developed model. The 3RI paraphrasing strategy instruction model can be one of the ways to help students avoid plagiarism and develop their creativity and critical thinking skills. ABSTRAKSebuah model instruksi strategi perparafiran telah dikembangkan melalui metode penelitian dan pengembangan. Model yang dikembangkan disebut sebagai model instruksi strategi perparafiran 3RI (Read, Rewrite, Revise, Integrate). Ini merupakan bagian dari penelitian dan pengembangan yang bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi efektivitas model yang dikembangkan. Untuk evaluasi, uji lapangan dilakukan di program studi bahasa Inggris di Universitas Mataram. Tujuh puluh lima mahasiswa yang mengikuti mata kuliah penulisan akademis terlibat dalam penelitian ini. Untuk mengevaluasi efektivitas model yang dikembangkan, mahasiswa melakukan penilaian diri sebelum dan setelah menerima perlakuan menggunakan model instruksi strategi perparafiran 3RI. Setelah perlakuan, mahasiswa diminta untuk mengisi kuesioner yang mencakup pernyataan tentang tanggapan mahasiswa terhadap instruksi dengan model yang dikembangkan. Hasilnya menunjukkan perbedaan signifikan antara skor penilaian diri mahasiswa sebelum dan setelah perlakuan. Selanjutnya, mahasiswa umumnya memberikan tanggapan positif terhadap perlakuan dengan model yang dikembangkan. Abstract

ABSTRACTThe main purpose of this study was to examine the perception of students regarding teacher self-efficacy and its influence on their motivation in the context of learning. The researchers used mixed-method research as the research methodology. To gather the data, the researchers used some instruments, namely a questionnaire and an interview. The questionnaire was distributed to 30 undergraduate students at a university located in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The instrument used was adopted from the Teacher's Self-Efficacy Scale Questionnaire developed by Tschannen-Moran & Hoy (2001). The data underwent both descriptive and statistical analysis using SPSS. The findings indicated that the students had a moderate degree of perceptions of teacher self-efficacy. In addition, the students' perceptions of teacher self-efficacy also influenced their motivation in learning. In other words, when students believe their lecturers have high self-efficacy in teaching, they are more motivated because they trust that the lecturers are capable of delivering the materials effectively and in an engaging manner. Therefore, it is important for lecturers to focus on building and cultivating their self-efficacy to positively influence students' learning outcomes. ABSTRAKTujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui persepsi siswwa terhadap efikasi diri guru dan dampaknya terhadap motivasi belajar mereka. Peneliti menggunakan penelitian mixed-method sebagai metolodi penelitian. Untuk mengumpulkan data, peneliti menggunakan beberapa instrument berupa kuesioner dan interview. Peneliti menyebarkan kuesioner tersebut kepada 30 mahasiswa S1 di suatu universitas di Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Instrumen yang digunakan diadaptasi dari Kuesioner Skala Efikasi Diri Guru yang dikembangkan oleh Tschannen-Moran & Hoy (2001). Data dianalisis secara deskriptif dan statistik. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa siswa mempunyai tingkat persepsi efikasi diri guru yang sedang. Selain itu, persepsi siswa terhadap efikasi diri guru juga mempengaruhi motivasi mereka dalam belajar. Dengan kata lain, ketika mahasiswa yakin bahwa dosennya memiliki efikasi diri yang tinggi dalam mengajar, maka mahasiswa akan lebih termotivasi karena yakin bahwa dosen tersebut mampu menyampaikan materi secara efektif dan menarik. Abstract

ABSTRACTTechnological improvement has changed our educational systems from face-to-face learning to virtual learning, namely online learning. WhatsApp (WA) is an application that can be a medium to support students' English learning in a more accessible, flexible, and helpful way. The objectives of this study are to know the students' perceptions and academic flow of using the WA application in English learning, to understand the differences in their perceptions and academic flow based on their gender, age, and semester, and to know the correlation between both their perception and academic flow. The data was collected by quantitative research in survey research design. 172 State Islamic College students who studied English courses were selected randomly as the sample of this study. The data were gained through the questionnaire distributed online. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Multivariate Analysis, and Correlation of SPPS. The findings revealed that the students positively perceive using WhatsApp applications in their English learning. Meanwhile, it is also an application that can directly impact their perceptions and academic flow. However, the correlation analysis found that students' perceptions do not have a significant relationship with the academic flow (r = .117, p > .05). ABSTRAKKemajuan teknologi telah mengubah sistem pendidikan kita dari pembelajaran tatap muka ke pembelajaran virtual, yaitu pembelajaran daring. WhatsApp adalah sebuah media yang dapat mendukung pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris siswa lebih mudah diakses, fleksibel, dan bermanfaat. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui persepsi dan kenyamanan akademik mahasiswa dalam penggunaan aplikasi WA pada pembelajaran Bahasa inggris, untuk memahami perbedaan persepsi dan kenyamanan akademik mahasiswa berdasarkan jenis kelamin, umur, dan semester, dan untuk mengetahui korelasi antara persepsi dan kenyamanan akademik mahasiswa. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kuantitatif, dengan desain penelitian survey .172 mahasiswa  yang belajar mata kuliah Bahasa Inggris pada  Sekolah Tinggi Agama Islam Negeri dijadikan sampel penelitian ini secara acak. Data diperoleh melalui kuesioner yang disebarkan secara online. Analisis data menggunakan statistik deskriptif, Analisis Multivariat (MANOVA), dan korelasi yang dianalisis dengan SPPS. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa siswa memiliki persepsi positif terhadap penggunaan aplikasi WhatsApp dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris mereka. Sementara itu, WA juga merupakan aplikasi yang secara langsung dapat mempengaruhi persepsi dan kenyaman akademik mereka. Namun, Hasil analisis korelasi menunjukkan bahwa persepsi mahasiswa tidak memiliki hubungan yang signifikan dengan kenyamanan akademik (r = .117, p > .05).How to Cite: Syahputra, A. (2023). Abstract

ABSTRACT This research aims to identify ELT lecturers' readiness to implement online learning. This research involved 30 ELT lecturers from three different time zones in Indonesia: the western, middle, and eastern parts of Indonesia. The study employed an explanatory mixed method in which the quantitative stage was conducted prior to the qualitative stage. Drawing on data from questionnaires and Focus Group Discussions (FGD), the study found that regardless of the learning mode, lecturers' instruction remains similar except for the assessment process. However, this research also found that geographical location, learning materials, internet connection, and affordability contribute to lecturers' preference in selecting learning modes. This research implies that lecturers are ready to embrace the most of online learning; however, the utmost benefit from online learning can only be attained if the supporting systems are available for both lecturers and students. ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi kesiapan dosen ELT dalam melaksanakan pembelajaran online. Penelitian ini melibatkan 30 dosen ELT dari tiga zona waktu yang berbeda di Indonesia. Berdasarkan data dari kuesioner dan Diskusi Kelompok Fokus (FGD), penelitian ini menemukan bahwa tidak peduli mode pembelajarannya, instruksi dosen tetap sama kecuali dalam proses penilaian. Namun, penelitian ini juga menemukan bahwa lokasi geografis, materi pembelajaran, serta koneksi internet dan ketersediaan anggaran mempengaruhi preferensi dosen dalam memilih mode pembelajaran. Penelitian ini menyiratkan bahwa dosen siap untuk mengadopsi sebagian besar pembelajaran online; namun, manfaat maksimal dari pembelajaran online hanya dapat dicapai jika sistem pendukung tersedia baik untuk dosen maupun mahasiswa. Abstract

ABSTRACTResearch on the use of digital technology in English-speaking practice has been widely acknowledged in the literature, including empirical studies on the use of vlogging as a mediated instruction in teaching speaking skills. This study aimed to investigate Indonesian EFL students' experiences when conducting a food vlog learning project in English-speaking practices. Fifty students in the Education Department at the State University of Makassar, Indonesia, took part in this study. In their English classes, they worked on the food vlog as a project-based learning (PBL) activity. Random sampling was used to choose five people from each of the five groups of ten people, and they agreed to take part in a semi-structured interview. A thematic analysis was used to look at the qualitative data from the interview. The results indicate that the food vlog group, as part of PBL, helped and enhanced the students' self-efficacy, vocabulary mastery, learning autonomy, technology skills, and confidence in speaking English in EFL classes. These findings suggest that PBL has practical application within the context of the food vlog project. Consequently, utilizing a food vlog as a learning activity can be an effective support in practicing their English-speaking skills beyond the confines of the classroom.ABSTRAKPenelitian tentang penggunaan teknologi digital dalam praktik berbahasa Inggris telah diakui secara luas dalam literatur, termasuk studi empiris tentang penggunaan vlogging sebagai instruksi mediasi dalam pengajaran keterampilan berbicara.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki  pengalaman siswa EFL Indonesia dalam melakukan proyek pembelajaran vlog makanan dalam praktik berbahasa Inggris. Lima puluh mahasiswa di Departemen Pendidikan di Universitas Negeri Makassar, Indonesia, mengambil bagian dalam penelitian ini. Di kelas bahasa Inggris mereka mengerjakan vlog makanan sebagai kegiatan pembelajaran berbasis proyek (PBL). Pengambilan sampel acak digunakan untuk memilih lima orang dari masing-masing lima kelompok yang terdiri dari sepuluh orang, dan mereka setuju untuk mengambil bagian dalam wawancara semi-terstruktur. Analisis tematik digunakan untuk melihat data kualitatif dari wawancara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kelompok food vlog sebagai PBL membantu dan meningkatkan self-efficacy siswa, penguasaan kosa kata, kemandirian belajar, keterampilan teknologi, dan kepercayaan diri dalam berbicara bahasa Inggris di kelas EFL. Temuan ini menyatakan bahwa PBL memiliki aplikasi praktis dalam konteks proyek vlog review makanan secara nyata. Abstract

ABSTRACT     This study aimed to develop an English for Tourism (EFT) digital module oriented to the local wisdom values of Magelang. This study was part of a research and development study employing the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) model. Beginning with a need analysis phase using a questionnaire, the researchers found students' needs of 10 (ten) relevant language functions that will help them communicate effectively in the tourism industry. These topics were developed into a flipbook by inserting Magelang's wisdom values. To test its feasibility, the researchers conducted an expert judgment procedure by inviting two experts in the field of EFT and media development. The results showed that the Flipbook was feasible to be used with a mean score of more than three for each criterion of a quality module determined by the Education, Curriculum, and Assessment Standards Agency of Indonesia. In addition, following the expert's suggestions, the researchers added a section developed to enrich the student's vocabulary. This study presents the significance of developing learning materials that integrate local values to build students' noble character.ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan modul digital English for Tourism (EFT) yang berorientasi pada nilai-nilai kearifan lokal Magelang. Penelitian ini merupakan bagian dari penelitian dan pengembangan dengan model ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). Tahap analisis kebutuhan menghasilkan identifikasi kebutuhan siswa akan 10 (sepuluh) fungsi bahasa yang dapat membantu mereka berkomunikasi dengan efektif di bidang industri pariwisata.. Topik-topik tersebut dikembangkan menjadi flipbook dengan memasukkan nilai-nilai kearifan Magelang. Untuk menguji kelayakannya, peneliti melakukan expert judgment dengan dua orang ahli di bidang EFT dan pengembangan media. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa flipbook ini layak digunakan dengan nilai rata-rata lebih dari tiga untuk setiap kriteria kualitas modul yang ditetapkan oleh Badan Standar, Kurikulum, dan Asesmen Pendidikan Indonesia. Selain itu, peneliti juga mengikuti saran dari ahli untuk menambahkan bagian khusus untuk peningkatan kosakata. Abstract

ABSTRACTSpeaking is one of the most crucial skills to cultivate and strengthen communication skills. Speaking proficiency is one of the most difficult components of language learning, particularly for those learning a foreign language. Many language learners have difficulty expressing themselves verbally. They frequently struggle with successfully expressing themselves in a new language. They cease communicating due to psychological hurdles or a lack of acceptable words and expressions. The purpose of this study is to investigate students' worries regarding the types of speaking anxiety experiences they have in the classroom. This research employs descriptive qualitative as a research design. Ten EFL students participated as participants, and the researcher used thematic analysis techniques to analyze the data. The findings of this study reveal that ten EFL students can be said to be anxious about speaking English. Some of them are classified as facilitative anxiety and debilitative anxiety. This study is intended to assist EFL students in considering the speaking demands of their language learners in the context of English language teaching and learning. ABSTRAKBerbicara adalah salah satu keterampilan yang paling penting untuk mengembangkan dan memperkuat kemampuan komunikasi. Kemahiran berbicara adalah salah satu komponen pembelajaran bahasa yang paling sulit, terutama bagi mereka yang belajar bahasa asing. Banyak pelajar bahasa yang mengalami kesulitan dalam mengekspresikan diri mereka secara lisan. Mereka sering kali kesulitan untuk berhasil mengekspresikan diri mereka dalam bahasa baru. Mereka berhenti berkomunikasi karena rintangan psikologis atau kurangnya kata-kata dan ekspresi yang dapat diterima. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menyelidiki kekhawatiran siswa mengenai jenis pengalaman kecemasan berbicara yang mereka alami di kelas. Penelitian ini menggunakan deskriptif kualitatif sebagai desain penelitian. Sepuluh siswa EFL berpartisipasi sebagai partisipan dan peneliti menggunakan teknik analisis tematik untuk menganalisis data. Temuan dari penelitian ini mengungkapkan bahwa sepuluh siswa EFL dapat dikatakan cemas dalam berbicara bahasa Inggris. Beberapa di antaranya diklasifikasikan sebagai kecemasan fasilitatif dan kecemasan debilitatif. Penelitian ini dimaksudkan untuk membantu siswa EFL dalam mempertimbangkan tuntutan berbicara dari pembelajar bahasa mereka dalam konteks pengajaran dan pembelajaran bahasa Inggris.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study endeavors to reinvigorate the concept of critical digital literacy within the framework of English language teaching in Indonesia. Employing a desk study methodology, a nexus analysis was conducted, encompassing theoretical frameworks, empirical research, political-ideological considerations, governmental and global institutional policies, and pedagogical possibilities related to the integration of critical digital literacy with digital technology in education. The data analysis involves the systematic deconstruction and synthesis of existing literature frameworks to establish emergent categories. These categories were subsequently thematized into a model, serving as a heuristic framework that spans the multifaceted domains of digital text, digital reader, digital task, and digital values. The framework underscores the imperative to prioritize human transformation and empowerment over a sole focus on digital technology utilization. It emphasizes the collaborative efforts required among stakeholders in English language teaching practices.ABSTRAKPenelitian ini berupaya untuk menyegarkan kembali konsep literasi digital kritis dalam kerangka pengajaran bahasa Inggris di Indonesia. Dengan menerapkan metodologi desk study, analisis nexus diterapkan dengan menggabungkan kerangka teoritis, penelitian empiris, pertimbangan politik-ideologis, kebijakan pemerintah dan lembaga global, serta peluang-peluang pedagogis terkait integrasi literasi digital kritis dengan teknologi digital dalam pendidikan. Analisis data melibatkan dekonstruksi sistematis dan sintesis terkait dengan kerangka literatur yang ada untuk membentuk kategori-kategori yang muncul. Dari kategori-kategori tersebut kemudian di bentuk menjadi tema yang kemudian dikembangkan sebuah model yang berfungsi sebagai kerangka heuristik yang mencakup domain-domain beraneka bentuk, seperti teks digital, pembaca digital, tugas digital, dan nilai-nilai digital. Kerangka ini menekankan pentingnya untuk memberikan prioritas pada transformasi dan pemberdayaan manusia dibandingkan dengan fokus semata-mata pada pemanfaatan teknologi digital. Penekanan diberikan pada upaya kolaboratif yang diperlukan di antara para pemangku kepentingan dalam praktik pengajaran bahasa Inggris.How to Cite: Fadilah, E. (2023).
