Abstract

Tourism-led development is widely viewed as a catalyst for economic growth, yet its social implications remain underexamined. This study investigates how tourism restructuring shapes labor precarity and social vulnerability in Batu City, Indonesia, with particular attention to education. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews and focus group discussions with tourism workers, community members, and local stakeholders. Findings indicate that tourism expansion increases informal, flexible, and seasonal employment, resulting in income insecurity, extended working hours, and limited social protection. Educational disparities reduce workers’ capacity to adapt to changing labor demands, reinforcing social inequality. By linking labor transformation, education, and vulnerability, this study extends sociological perspectives on tourism and provides evidence for policies promoting inclusive labor conditions, educational opportunities, and sustainable tourism development.

Abstract

The subsidized fertilizer policy in Malang Regency experienced a 10% decrease in allocation compared to the previous year, with a total allocation of 159,170 tons. The significant increase in the maximum retail price of subsidized fertilizers is stipulated in Minister of Agriculture Regulation No. 41 of 2021 concerning the allocation and maximum retail price of subsidized fertilizers. The distribution process of subsidized fertilizers is carried out through the KPL system, or farmer card system, based on the list of beneficiaries registered in the e-RDKK. In addition, the expansion of critical land by 45,000 hectares in Malang Regency has increased the demand for subsidized fertilizers. This study aims to describe and analyze the policy on the allocation and maximum retail price of subsidized fertilizers in Malang Regency. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were analyzed using the interactive model developed by Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña. The researcher analyzed the implementation of the subsidized fertilizer policy using six components: policy standards and objectives, resources, characteristics of implementing organizations, inter-organizational communication and implementing activities, disposition of implementers, and the social, economic, and political conditions in Malang Regency. The findings indicate that the implementation of the policy on the allocation and maximum retail price of subsidized fertilizers in Malang Regency, when examined through the six components, has not been fully optimal. Although the policy itself has been well formulated, its implementation remains suboptimal, particularly at the kiosk or retailer level. One of the main obstacles is the limited understanding of fertilizer redemption input procedures using the application. The tendency for prices to exceed the maximum retail price is caused by additional transportation costs borne by farmer groups and farmers located far from fertilizer kiosks. Furthermore, the dissemination of information regarding the distribution of subsidized fertilizers has not been effectively communicated to farmer groups and farmers.

Abstract

According to the Indonesian Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) 2025 report, Indonesia’s economy exhibited sustained growth throughout the 2022–2024 period. This macroeconomic stability has served as a primary catalyst for the expansion of various industrial sectors. This phenomenon positively correlates with the expansion of diverse industrial sectors, notably within the construction industry. Concurrently, strategic opportunities within the building materials market have experienced significant growth, with the decorative coatings (paint) segment emerging as a particularly high-potential vertical. This potential is evidenced by the persistent market share competition between prominent domestic and multinational brands. Notably, the strategic marketing initiatives executed by PT Avia Avian Tbk. have yielded superior outcomes relative to competitors employing analogous frameworks. Despite intensive market saturation, PT Avia Avian Tbk. has maintained its position as a dominant domestic entity within the Indonesian retail paint segment. The primary objective of this research is to evaluate and delineate the underlying drivers of PT Avia Avian Tbk.'s market leadership. Adopting a qualitative case study methodology—specifically an explanatory single-case embedded design, the study utilizes primary data gathered through semi-structured interviews with ten key persons both internal and external stakeholders. The findings indicate that PT Avia Avian Tbk.’s competitive dominance is predicated upon a robust, integrated distribution infrastructure, complemented by iterative product innovation and asymmetric marketing strategies. These three pillars collectively facilitate a sustainable competitive advantage within the retail landscape.

Abstract

The integration of generative artificial intelligence into higher education writing support has introduced significant complexities for writing centre peer tutors, particularly within the massified university contexts characteristic of post-apartheid South Africa. This study, nested within a broader project Reimagining Writing Centre Pedagogy in the Age of AI: Exploring Digital Tutoring Practices, Epistemic Access, and Student Support in Massified Higher Education navigate the pressures that AI-mediated tutoring exerts on collaborative, student-centred pedagogy. Employing a qualitative case study design, the study generated data through semi-structured interviews with nine peer tutors, analysed using reflexive thematic analysis and theorised through Pierre Bourdieu’s conceptual triad of habitus, capital, and field. Three interconnected themes emerged: tutors experienced a condition of hysteresis as their deeply held pedagogical commitments to student voice and authentic writing collided with a student culture oriented toward AI-mediated efficiency; differential AI access reproduced and deepened pre-existing socioeconomic inequalities among students; and digital platforms simultaneously extended the reach of writing centre support and generated new barriers for disadvantaged students. The study concludes that tutor responses constitute neither straightforward reproduction nor clean resistance to existing field logics, but an adaptive remaking of writing centre pedagogy, with significant implications for equity-centred policy and practice in massified higher education.

Abstract

The New Student Admission Policy (PPDB) with the zoning system aims to create equitable access to education; however, this policy also has significant impacts, particularly on private schools. This study aims to analyze the impact of the PPDB zoning system policy on three private junior high schools in Malang City: SMP Taman Siswa, SMP Muhammadiyah 01, and SMP Sunan Giri. A qualitative descriptive approach was used to provide an in-depth depiction of the phenomenon through interviews, observations, and document analysis. The findings reveal that this policy affects four dimensions: individual, organizational, community, and institutional. The impact on individuals includes a decline in student motivation and economic challenges for teachers. From an organizational perspective, the policy results in a decrease in student enrollment and school income, although it creates opportunities to improve the quality of educational services. In the community dimension, the policy increases parents' economic burden and changes perspectives on the importance of educational quality. Meanwhile, in the institutional aspect, the role of school committees has become more active in fundraising and promotion. This study concludes that while the zoning policy has good intentions, its implementation requires further support from the government to mitigate the negative impacts on private schools. Adaptive strategies from private schools and enhanced synergy between the government, schools, and communities are proposed to create a more inclusive educational ecosystem.
