Abstract

This study seeks to examine the perspectives of lecturers and students in higher vocational education about effective English for Specific Purposes (ESP) instruction within the hospitality context.  A sequential explanatory mixed-method design was utilized. In the initial phase, questionnaire data were gathered from 60 hotel management students and examined through descriptive statistics to discern perceptual patterns. During the second phase, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 3 ESP lecturers to enhance the quantitative findings. The findings show that informants concur on the significance of establishing explicit learning objectives, employing diverse interactive pedagogical techniques, and incorporating activities that emphasize speaking skills. They concur that evaluations must align with course objectives. However, challenges remain in promoting active student inquiry and in the clear incorporation of cognitive, emotional, and psychomotor domains. The research indicates that successful ESP training in vocational contexts is complex and dependent on the alignment of instructional design, classroom execution, and professional relevance. Future investigations are advised to use diverse vocational schools and larger participant samples to enhance generalizability. Longitudinal studies are also recommended to examine the impact of ESP classroom learning on workplace performance. Further research should examine the perspectives of industry stakeholders to improve the alignment between education and professional demands.

Abstract

This phenomenological research investigated the relationship between parenting styles and social-emotional readiness among first-grade students at SDN Lagoa 01 Jakarta. Preliminary questionnaires administered to thirty-two parents identified parenting style distributions (84.4% authoritative, 12.5% authoritarian, 3.1% permissive), with purposive sampling selecting eleven parents and four teachers for in-depth semi-structured interviews complemented by classroom observations. Thematic analysis revealed that authoritative parenting—characterized by warmth, emotional responsiveness, clear rules, and consistent enforcement—was most strongly associated with children's social-emotional school readiness across five indicators: emotional regulation, social interaction, rule-following, independence, and routine adaptation. Children from authoritative homes demonstrated superior emotional regulation and social competence compared to those from permissive (showing impulsivity, rule resistance, peer conflicts) or authoritarian (showing anxiety, withdrawal, fear-based compliance) environments. Parental emotional response patterns emerged as critical mechanisms, with emotion coaching fostering internalized competence while dismissive or punitive responses undermined regulation development. Teacher interventions including consistent routines, emotion coaching, cooperative learning, and parent communication effectively supported adaptation when aligned with home practices. Despite authoritative parenting predominance, 56.2% of students were categorized as "not yet ready," suggesting readiness complexity beyond parenting alone. Findings confirm social-emotional readiness results from synergistic family-school collaboration, providing evidence-based guidance for parent education programs, teacher professional development, and family-school partnership initiatives supporting children's developmental success during critical educational transitions.

Abstract

Strengthening accountability in local government requires internal oversight that not only complies with regulations but also drives tangible improvements in governance performance. This study applies the Context, Input, Process, and Product (CIPP) evaluation model to assess how the Blitar Regency Inspectorate supports development accountability. The analysis covers institutional capacity, resource readiness, oversight procedures, and the use of audit results in performance management. The findings indicate that although oversight mechanisms and formal procedures are established, their impact is constrained by limited human resources, weak coordination with planning and budgeting units, and inconsistent follow up on recommendations. As a result, internal oversight has not yet fully translated into stronger development planning and performance accountability. The study concludes that strengthening institutional capacity, improving the follow up process, and better integrating oversight outputs into the broader performance management system are essential to ensure that internal oversight contributes more effectively to accountable, results oriented local governance.

Abstract

Mangrove ecotourism development is a strategic effort to maintain coastal ecosystem sustainability while improving local community welfare in areas with high ecological potential but embryonic managerial systems. This study aims to analyze the condition of the mangrove ecosystem and tourism management, identify key challenges, and formulate sustainable development strategies in Kalombo District, Nusantara Village, Banda District, Central Maluku Regency. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach using the Participatory Action Research (PAR) method. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews with 35 purposively sampled respondents, questionnaires, and Focus Group Discussions (FGD). Data analysis followed the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña. Results indicate that the ecosystem is well-preserved with seven major mangrove species, yet management faces challenges such as weak institutional structures, limited human resource capacity, and minimal educational infrastructure. Development strategies were formulated based on S.M.A.R.T. principles, focusing on strengthening permanent institutions, community training, and integrating conservation with the local economy. In conclusion, the success of this ecotourism depends on transforming the community into independent management actors through community-based empowerment.

Abstract

This activity results from a collaboration between the lecturers' community service program and the Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN)/Student Community Service for Mahasiswa Membangun Desa (MMD) at Universitas Brawijaya. It will take place in July 2025 in Ledoktempuro Village, Randuagung District, Lumajang Regency. The initiative was driven by concerns about the low interest in reading among the village community. This collaboration uses an Action Research approach, with lecturers as project leaders, students as facilitators for mentoring activities, and the community as participants. The stages include identifying problems, developing action plans, implementing activities, and reflecting on outcomes to assess the program’s impact on citizen participation. The team identified two main issues: low reading interest within families and a lack of village reading facilities. The community service aims to spark reading activities and establish suitable reading facilities for residents. Results show that children gained confidence and expressed themselves through reading aloud (Membaca Nyaring), revitalizing the library and leading to the development of adequate reading facilities. Additionally, residents' interest in visiting the village library increased, highlighting the need for ongoing activities to maintain community engagement. Building volunteers’ capacity in the future is essential for sustaining the village library's activities and management.
